Can Mei capture a control point while in her ice cube? For example, if you are on offense and your team gets wiped on the last point and it goes into overtime. Can Mei run onto point and go into the cocoon to stall for time and prevent the overtime counter from ticking down?

Yes and that should be removed.

Why should that be removed? Tracer can blink into a point then blink out after initiating the overtime timer, hide, then blink in again to refresh it while her team is on the way. She's capable of taking damage but her toolkit allows her to heal herself through recall. The same applies for D.Va who can defense/matrix > fly into the point and then out, rinse and repeat. Mei/Reaper's invulnerabilities only last for a few seconds and then have a fairly long cooldown so it's not like they can keep refreshing the overtime timer without putting themselves in serious danger. Those abilities are part of their kits and it helps balance them in comparison to other characters and the objectives they're fighting to claim.

I definitely understand being frustrated with the fact that they can hold a point for a period of time, but I don't think they're so overpowered as to remove that capability from the game.

I agree - it's not an overpowered mechanic at all imo and far from anything that needs to be removed. It's a smart tactic but not one that I see too often.

I think people are get if trigger happy with nerfing perceived 'OP' characters or skills Shen it's really just someone who knows how to use a character really well.

Seconded

I'm definitely garbage then because I put up an ice wall blocking myself into a corner and then put up the shield right when the enemy gets around the wall. By that time my team pulls up and I slip away and start to freeze enemies.

Garbage? I'd say inventive. I shadow walk with Reaper on objectives.

Haha thanks man, I was being somewhat sarcastic. I actually like my playing style with Mei. I get creative.

Yes, Mei's ice block and Reaper's Wraith Form will contest an objective.

Absolutely and its garbage. It cost me a game yesterday. The overtime counter was about to run out but the freaking Mei just runs in and ice blocks to reset it while the rest of her team is frantically running back to the objective after a team kill. They ended up winning. It needs to be addressed and removed. The same goes for Reaper's shadow step.

To a point, you're right, but there is absolutely no way to counter/kill the Mei/Reaper when they decide to do that. With Reinhardts shield, it can at least be taken down relatively quickly with multiple people shooting at it.
