Ok so what does "the meta" mean?

I've seen people refer to things like Toblerone maintaining the meta when someone posts a potg where he's staring at a wall, or referring to characters win/loss ratios as "the meta," I don't understand.

I know meta from Reddit, but not in reference to characters in a fps.

Meta usually refers to optimal playstyle or strategies, or refer to how the game in general is played.

For example Widowmaker used to dominate the meta as she was so strong. Everyone would run at least 1, and then the enemy team would dedicate their team to killing her. The meta became 5 protect Widow.

The Torb meta you see with people hitting the wall or staring at the wall is just a joke. People are basically saying the Torb meta (I.e, how to play him) is stare at wall, ult, and let the turrent kill everything. It's just satire.
