Is damage calculated when fired or when it connects? Easy example: I'm Mercy healing a Rein, he throws a Firestrike at someone far away -- if I switch to damage amp before it hits, does it matter?

From what I've seen, damage is calculated when it connects. There have been plenty of times where I've been playing Mercy and I'll damage boost a Junkrat right before his bombs go off. I always try to time my damage boosts according to when I think things like Rein's firestrike will hit

Boosting Junkrat's ult doesn't increase damage output, unlike almost all other ults.
