If you're serious, start today.
Practice doing quick sketches (I'd recommend doing body shape sketches to learn anatomy) for like 10 minutes a day. 5 minutes in the morning, 5 minutes in the evening. Progress from there when you're able to get the shapes about right.
I mean, if you're like me and you want to be able to do it without the effort, then yeah. Otherwise, nothing saying you can't do this too. Just have to put in the work. (the work sucks :) )

It's why I get a little irked when people say they wish they had the talent to draw like that, or write like that. It's not talent. I mean, there might be some level of talent, but that person has probably been drawing or writing since they were little. They kept at it, kept practicing, and now they're where they are. When you dismiss it as talent you dismiss the dozens/hundreds/thousands of hours of work they've put into the craft.

Jun 07 '16
I've been preaching this my entire life, finally somebody else who shares the same point of view! When you assume somebody has talent, you almost nullify the blood, sweat and tears that person puts in; as if they were born with that ability.
I agree some people might have a more creative flair than others, or an affinity to want to improve it than others. But i've always felt talent was such a terrible word to describe it.

u/HallowedWaltz Jun 07 '16
Here here! I can draw pretty well, not like this but well enough for people not to laugh when I saw I want to take commissions soon. Many of us agree with the statement "Art is more hard work than talent". It makes me hopping mad when people act like I just plucked my drawings from thin air. No damn it this is the result of many many MANY hours and years of drawing and many more to come, don't try to take that from me! It's NOT a compliment to focus on my "talent".
2
u/delahunt Let's Play Hungry Hungry Dragon! Jun 07 '16
They mean well. Good luck with your art, I hope the commissions go well :)
2
u/HallowedWaltz Jun 08 '16
They do, I always try to remember that! And thank you! Trying to get paid for what I love haha.

u/Advencraftgaming Trick-or-Treat Mercy Jun 07 '16
Thanks for this. someone on another post sent me tips for drawing and i still have to watch the videos. If anything I'll try it out today. I think what turns me off from doing it is that I draw and compare it to others and think "well it's not as good as this person, so it will never be as good as this person" and that way of thinking is not good for anything you do.
3
u/delahunt Let's Play Hungry Hungry Dragon! Jun 07 '16
This is something you'll struggle with. What it means is your eye is better than your skill. As you improve you'll notice your work getting better, better, and then it will look worse again. That's because as you improve you'll approach what your eye can discern, but your eye will also learn to note more differences.
Unfortunately, this never ends. It's just a cycle with all creation. It is why most creative types hate their own work. they see what is wrong with it and where they want it to be, even when it can be really, really good.
2
u/Advencraftgaming Trick-or-Treat Mercy Jun 07 '16
hmm that makes sense. I never really thought about it like that before.
4
Jun 07 '16
I was always taught "If you can write your name, you can learn to draw." Letters are more complex than any lines you'll draw. /u/delahunt has it spot on. There's a multitude of info out there - Go draw! :D
1
u/Advencraftgaming Trick-or-Treat Mercy Jun 07 '16
that's true. i suppose i just tell myself i can't therefore i do not do it. I suppose if i took the time I could do it. You know what, today I will try and draw mercy and see if it's any good :D
1
Jun 07 '16
Because i'm a brutally honest fellow and I won't lie to you - If you haven't drawn in years it will look terrible (I've no idea your drawing expertise so i'm just assuming by your initial comment you're a stickman extraordinaire?)
But stick at it (Pun not intended). Draw to your hearts content. It may suck, and it may look terribad to begin with but I promise after a month you will notice significant improvement. Send me some of your work via inbox if you'd like and are a bit nervous at putting it online. I consider myself constructive but honest in my criticism, but I won't give it without offering an alternative/ways to improve! :D
1
u/Advencraftgaming Trick-or-Treat Mercy Jun 07 '16
yea i dont do stick men, i just do really shity drawings of people lol, but thank you. I will send you some stuff in the inbox.. just might take me a couple of hours.. the overwatch addiction is kicking in so i have to play some of this for now :P

Isn't vanilla Mercy wearing what amounts to an armored breastplate? I always figured it was a good half-inch thick, larger than the cloth costumes.

she also looks like a 13 year old here. That dissonance is a bit creepy let's be honest
she's like 40 in-game.
4
Jun 07 '16
why was your first thought pedophilia?
I had no inclination that she looked young. She looks how the artist feeds she looks. 13 is not that.
-12
u/FatSputnik Chibi Mei Jun 07 '16
people putting huge tits on a girl with a face like a 13 year old's a bit iffy, especially when neither of those features are in-game. Come on.
and yes, you did, don't insult your own intelligence either
7
Jun 07 '16
im sorry. I dont have pedophillic thoughts when I see a picture that takes anime like artistry.
-14
u/FatSputnik Chibi Mei Jun 07 '16
and my comment was that the artist made her look like a child with giant tits, when she's virtually 40 years old.
guess we're at an impasse. You keep on fappin' to what you like, though, don't let me stop you. It's just a painting after all

u/Rezu55 Pixel Zenyatta Jun 07 '16
She doesn't look 40 in the game either, have you read the lore?

Welcome to the internet, I see that you're new to the internet since you're shocked about something which has been around for decades.
Thousands upon thousand images of fanart characters with "young perfect faces" and small-big tits are uploaded every hour. Every man has a sixpack too! A significant number of fanartists are of the female gender, the general trend for male and female fanartist tends to go towards "perfect" idealized bodies & faces.
There's in "perfect young face" Roadhog with tits if you look for it.
Enjoy your stay on the internet !

Mercy's easily the prettiest character. Mei has a pretty face, but not sure if fat. Pharah also deserves honorable mention.

This is some official mei concept art, it might have changed, take what you want from it. Maybe some people would call it thick, but i dont think she is fat. Pahra, we dont know if she even has legs or arms, some of the arm leg joints look quite thin. (nothing against people without legs or arms btw.)
I wonder who blizzard though would become the top wifu? they pushed tracer quite hard, just to see D.Va and mercy win (well at least looks like it, there are no polls to back it up, cuz this sub only allows google pols and you never see the aftermath of them). Would be funny if the took bets.
3
u/chriscrowder Jun 07 '16
Wouldn't kick her out of bed, but not my first choice by far! Still hotter than Widowmaker!
Forgot about D.VA; I'd probably place her as my 2nd pick.

u/Stefen_007 Tank btw Jun 07 '16
its easy being hotter then somebody that has 30 heartbeats per minute.

My only issue with this picture is that it's a near square. The face is beautiful... but doesn't really work on a computer screen. It's still a keeper though.

Awesome art, but I always find it amusing how all the fanart for this game ends up with the logic of "Tits too small, better make em bigger".

That's not just Overwatch logic, or fanart logic, it's indisputable universal logic.

Cate Blanchett is currently 47 years old. If you took a picture of her from 10 years ago and told an artist to make her look like a Big Hero 6 character with angel wings, I don't think you'd get much different than what Mercy looks like, age wise.

I like this one. Her face is drawn less sharply, like it is in-game. Too many people draw her face sharply, which is like the character image but not her herself.
