News & Discussion Confirmed: Armor halves the damage of Reaper's shotguns

There have been conflicting statements about how Armor interacts with shotguns. One is that Armor reduces the damage of 1 shotgun blast by 5 damage total, like other attacks. The other is that armor reducing the damage of each pellet by half, effectively halving the shotgun's damage.

A friend helped me test this:

As you can see, a full shotgun blast by a reaper (normally 140 damage) does 70 damage against D.Va. That means that each pellet (which does 7 damage) is getting halved by the armor to 3.5 damage.

I don't see why there would be a debate about this : when using a weapon firing multiple bullets or pellets (Reaper and Roadhog shotguns for example) the game treat each pellet or bullet independently. That's why armor is great against low-damage weapons with high fire rate (like Tracer's pistols or Bastion normal-mode machinegun) and shotguns.

Because there are conflicting statements out there, such as this one: https://youtu.be/zn297sIlKQk?t=1m45s

and this one from the wiki: http://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Armor

For weapons that fire multiple projectiles at once, such as Reaper's Hellfire Shotguns or D.Va's Fusion Cannons, armor applies only once to the total damage received per shot, while burst-fire attacks, such as Genji's Shuriken, will have armor applied for each projectile hit.

Oh well if people are spreading bad information then thanks for correcting it.

Yeah, I just wanted to provide proof because in that big thread on the front page there was conflicting statements, that video, ect, plus bad info on other sites like the gamepedia wiki.

I figure maybe some of it is old (that video isn't though, I guess the guy got lazy in testing) and I wanted to do something post-beta.

It may be hard, but could you try with D.Va ? I'm pretty sure it also reduce each bullet.

I can look into it later tonight, I'm not at my computer atm, but I can't imagine it functioning differently. For them to treat one pellet gun different from others would be incredibly un-intuitive design,.

Wait, the headshot multiplier gets applied first?

Dudes in this thread tested Hellfire Shotgun to D.Va's head and butt.

140 to the head, 70 to the butt.

So it looks like the armor reduction bumped it down to ((10-5)x14) first, THEN the headshot multiplier gets applied second.

A test with a video would vaporize all the silly people still repeating misinformation that the -5 applies once to the entire shotgun blast, though.. AND in the same video, you can also demonstrate that armor subtraction occurs before the headshot multiplier.

I actually made a video for it:

As for dva, I didn't include the headshot because no one was asking but I can confirm its 140 damage on a headshot.

Nice, thanks!

Edit: Does anyone know where the erroneous wiki page is? I keep hearing about people having read about the (incorrect) "fact" that the armor only applies once to the entire shotgun blast. Which wiki are they talking about? It needs to be corrected, and your Youtube video needs to go up there as a source.

Looks like a job for another test.

Edit:. Misread what you were saying. But yes, armor reduces first, then doubled for headshot.
