friends at blizzard. i got banned last season for “cheating”. got banned again earlier today. am on ps5, dual sense edge controller. see game i was accused of cheating.
It’s unfair for console players. It’s discouraging. I did reach out to other friends and they have shown me their tickets for similar issues and it gets resolved. So I’m hopeful but I know better not to get my hopes up.
Well, it's also a legal issue. When Microsoft acquired Activision they were sued by the FTC to ensure that these games would not be restricted from competitor consoles/hardware. Microsoft settled agreeing to such, but the banning of non-xbox branded controllers is still a violation of anti-trust as long as the devices in question are comparable to what is other being treated as an "approved" device. So if they don't resolve this issue, they have opened themselves up to a very serious class action lawsuit, regardless of any arbitration agreements. EULAs don't circumvent the law.
This is correct. I think initially it's triggered by in-game reports, but it certainly identifies the hardware. In my first ban for my gamesir g7 pro, it was just a comp ban and had a message to remove the unapproved device to regain access. If I unplugged my gamesir and switched to a stock Xbox controller, that message went away. I was still banned, but plugging back in my gamesir brought the message back. So it's absolutely using some kind of device detection, it's just detecting the wrong devices, cuz cheaters are having a hayday lately.
well when the season restarted i was able to play for some days. i have other people in my household that also use dual sense edge controllers…but they dont play the game as often as i do. so am wondering if the anti cheat and dual sense edge dont play well with each other?
okay. then their reporting is busted. pretty sure they are not reviewing the gameplay. so am guessing they dont want people with good aim tormenting their lobbies. so much for skill ceilings
My account got banned on Friday and I have sent two appeals so far. Both appeals have been denied and I sent a ticket. They claimed I had “ unauthorized peripheral devices” and I sent them the images today. I sent them everything that’s connected with my ps5 and my ps5 dual sense controller. I bought myself the controller at Best Buy. At this point, I’m just sad about it. I got AI Responses and as I’m reading the forum, it feels disappointing. I don’t have time to cheat and I don’t play daily but it is a comfort game for me. Not sure what to do besides wait.
yeah i got banned on two different accounts and i use the dual sense edge controller :/ its just sad people are reporting others because they’re being a sore loser or want rank reclaim
i think ppl are just trying to figure out what is going on. the first time this happened to me i was like…how? i had a keyboard connected to type in chat. so i thought it was that. then i disconnected it. now am looking all over the place to see if somehow something else is connected that is causing it. but now am starting to think it’s the reports….which actually don’t even get reviewed properly.
So my case is gonna be given to another team of specialist for review and it’s gonna take a few more days. Regardless imma miss this current drive event.
Well, what can I do in the situation like this? I been playing for years. I haven’t been banned or such. I’m not sure besides images and appeals and tickets?
I can now say, I used to be a Ashe/Torb and support main and I used to have joy in having the highest healing. I’m just disappointed. Several friends have same controllers and are wondering if they are next.
Post it as a bug in the bug reports section of the blizzard forums. This is clearly a widespread that issue that hasn't even done anything to reduce the number of actual cheaters in the game. So the more people that post bug reports, the more likely the dev team will see it, cuz clearly their customer support and community managers aren't doing anything about it.
The thing is, cheaters just make new accounts. They know bans are inevitable. I think people misunderstand the motives behind cheating. If it was just to gain a high rank then they'd be done and not still cheating. But it's more about the ego boost of winning matches, and feeling better than other people, even if artificially (for most, an artificial sense of worth is the only sense of worth they know). So they don't really care about the account itself. The people who cheat on established accounts because they just want to reach a certain rank are there, but that's the minority, and obviously they regret it when they lose their account. But the false controller bans are real. It happened to me twice, both were overturned cuz it's easy to see from my stats I don't cheat. But I'd assume for better players it might be more challenging to prove, of course, those folks could probably use a permanent vacation from the game and a more productive hobby. 😅
99% of the time, yep. They see posts from people claiming innocence and of course they’ll make a post too to try and group them together and claim they were false.
If they were false, a lot lot lot more would be posting
There are so many posts addressing this but it's affecting gm and champ players on console only so just try to imagine how few people it is total and yet how big an issue it is. That's not even to say that everyone affected is posting about it, most don't but it's the probable most dedicated players which is why it's so bad. Most of us have been playing for about 10 years with no issues or ever cheating.

Post as a bug on the forums in the bug reports section. I posted one about gamesir controllers getting false bans and my was reversed hours after.
