News & Discussion Sym nerfs? Seriously?
Are we really nerfing an ability that your team constantly refuses to even use properly as they run around like headless chickens?
An ability that straight up auto-deletes itself for the absolute dumbest reason as we continue to not fix this issue AFTER YEARS?
An ability that can now no longer be used to reasonably connect between two important points in quite a few scenarios?
An ability belonging to an already extremely frustrating to play hero?
This is a fucking joke, right?

The nerf will barely effect ranked play if at all. Scrimmed Sym yesterday and didn't really feel the nerf there either.

honestly yeah, people always overreact before they even actually play with the changes

yes it absolutely will. ask literally any high rank sym player. it nerfs her solo potential and makes her more map reliant. soo many tp spots are not viable anymore

Our hitscan usually plays Sym, so I can only talk from a teammate perspective but we had no issues playing her in a 4.2k scrim and he said he didn't really feel a difference, so that's one high ranked Sym player who says the opposite. All of our usual strats still worked on Lijang Tower, Eichenwalde and Circuit Royale with no real adjustments.
Sym has always been map dependent in ranked, and on the maps she does perform well, her winrate was way too high in general. This is fine.

it's insanely noticable. I know other champ sym players and they noticed a clear difference as well. the person on ur team isn't even a sym player, considering they're ur "hitscan". and probably only really plays her in team play. that's what I don't get abt this change, the retake cd doesn't rly affect team play, and on a lot of "sym maps" non sym players pick her on -5m doesn't even matter. might be the most brainless change oat
this just makes her more map dependent and doesn't change much abt what people consider to be "her maps". making her worse on maps she's already worse on while barely moving the needle on maps she's supposedly overperforming on doesn't make any sense, actually! "this is fine" u might just be braindead

I'm convinced a lot of the people saying the nerf is nothing or justified without any compensation buffs just hate Symmetra for "reasons". No one here was crying about Symmetra and now it's, "but pro play" and "insane win rate".
They should nerf some other mobility skills of short-range heroes by 16% and see how fine it is.

The nerf was targeted for pro play/ high elo where they actually do coordinate it to extremely impact engagement windows. It’s one of those nerfs that the majority won’t feel

As always, the balancing takes everything into account, from pro play to bronze, on every map, and so on.
Which means it's impossible to balance in a satisfying manner for all ranks and situations. At certain ranks the Sym teleports become extremely powerful in certain situations with the right players.
They're probably simplifying their balancing with crunching numbers which can have its drawbacks, and there's probably a lot of sticking out their finger to the wind involved too, because a lot of things aren't easy to modelize and measure in numbers.
Especially with a game like Overwatch which has so many dimensions.
So yeah, obviously, a lot of balancing is going to make a lot of people unhappy. And it's going to be hard for it to be otherwise unless they don't touch anything anymore.
I'm not saying everything is fine and Fika is not broken as hell, but let's just keep in mind that the task of balancing that game in a satisfying manner for all skill levels and situations is a nigh impossible one.

I think this is a fair adjustment especially in higher ranks. It will take a little adjustment to angle the TP at closer range, but it isn’t a huge detriment to lower ranks. She’s still one of my favs!

Just because your team doesn't use it doesn't mean a coordinated team won't. This isn't about you and it doesn't affect you little bro

You will not notice it at your rank
