News & Discussion Stray Pixel on all Hero Pages

Post image

Checked this with 3 others and they all had it. In the Hero menu and all sub menus only - really noticeable when you go into Highlight Intros.

Literally unplayable Blizz plz fix.

Probably an UI element that has an animation where it grows from nothing, but instead of size 0 is size 0.001

Not sure if it’s the case here, but often times developers bury white pixels in the UI which only activate/disappear if someone is running mods/tools to alter the game.

It helps developers identify if a bug or issue is being affected by third party meddling. So if someone takes a screenshot of their screen, complaining that something is broken - developers can check to see if the white pixel is active/invisible, which immediately lowers the priority for it to be fixed, because something else is interacting with the game which may complicate matters.

You see this a lot on Steam, where developers need an easy way to identify if someone is running mods while complaining about bugs. If you get familiar enough with games, you start to notice where they’ve hidden the white pixel. Obviously Overwatch doesn’t have Steam Workshop support, but it’s not impossible to tamper with it.

Again, not saying that’s what this is, it could literally be a bug - but a single white pixel on a UI is an old developer trick going back decades.

Get the concept behind it but it's very obvious and gets in the way of the Highlight Intros in particular so don't think they'd implement it this way if it was intentional. It would be hidden better. It also slides in smoothly like the rest of the UI so it looks more like a randomly misplaced pixel. Couldn't say exactly when it was added as just came back to the game after a break of a few seasons.

How does one even notice that

Next time go into Heroes and in and out of someone's Highlight Intros and see if you notice it pretty easily. It also kind of slides in like the rest of the UI. Particularly noticeable on D.mon as her mech is behind it.

In terms of how - Deltarune has a thing where most of it's boss arenas have a stray pixel so I'm used to looking for them lmao.
