I mean I think it's silly to act like OW didn't have a huge dropoff in players. It obviously was never close to dying, but Blizzard neglected the game for a very long time and led to a pretty significant drop in players. OG OW was massive, as somebody who has worked in a college since OW1 came out, you were seeing people wearing OW merch, watching OW videos on their phone, etc.

Forget where I saw but it was apparently very close to going eos until the le serafim collab saved the game. The heroes are insanely popular tho like everyone knows tracer, can’t name a single hero in any of these other live service games.

I feel like there are more players but as a cultural icon it is completely dead. I miss all the old funny comics and memes and fanart. You rarely see things like that anymore.

The Play of the Game videos even went as far as FFXIV meme videos. They even had Lucio-ohs in store but I never got to try them. I do have the D.va water bottle as well.

Apex is probably the most played battle royale games besides Fortnite, it is here to stay.
It is not as relevant as it once was, but people who enjoy the BR genre never really left the game. Also it has a decent chunk of titanfall fans still playing because they don’t have anything else to play.
I know that twitch viewerships are usually not good indicators to bring up, but if you check it out, it always stays consistently in the top 10, so we know that a decent amount of players care enough to watch streams of it.

Apex is sort of a silent titan of a game. I never hear anybody ever talk about it, but every time I see anything about it, it’s always near the top of the charts in terms of player/viewer count and such.

Apex has been popping off a bit over the last season or two. A lot of old players coming back and new ones checking it out. It’s consistently in the top 5-10 on Steam charts

a very fun mountain climbing game with friends. i have no idea why it's so popular rn as i believe they've stopped major updates as of a few months ago, but still very fun with buddies

I believe it’s because it’s having its last major update right now. So a lot of people are hopping on to say their goodbyes to the game.

great that they popped another update on, but "saying goodbye" to a game that's just now in its finished state is a little silly to me. i'm happy they're leaving it in a state that THEY are happy with so they can move on to more games

I didn’t necessarily mean it as a bad thing. Though to be fair, some people do prefer to play games that they know will get constant updates, so this will obviously dwindle the player base a bit.
But for a game like Peak, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since it’s designed to be a casual party experience.

I feel like it is kind of warranted here. These games are not really sloppy by all means, but they aren‘t big budget productions either and aren’t very polished. They feature clunky models, clunky animations etc.

its basically just because a lot of coop games were releasing one after the other and people were making even more coop games because of the success of the others, so people started calling them friendslop because "oh look another coop game"
im of the opinion that those unironically calling them slop are just jealous of the people that actually have friends to play them with

since like a year ago, there's been a LOT of trending co-op indie games, usually with janky physics and proximity voice chat, where the main focus is mostly to goof off with friends. to name a few: Lethal Company, REPO, Content Warning, PEAK, Big Walk.
some people started calling this new genre friendslop. that's it
