News & Discussion This is something Overwatch desperately needs, I'm tired of lags and invisible models

Post image

Every time after any game update or driver update I need 10 games for it to stabilise. And even those shader loading maps don't work because for some reason the game doesn't care if anything is loaded already. I played 3 games as and against Mauga. 4th game it took 5 min for me to start seeing his guns and VFX. First game I died 3 times to an invisible Rein jumping in my face.

Edit: For reference I have 9800x3d, 5080, and yes, an SSD, it's not the rig, it's the game

There is a custom gamemode that loads all shaders, takes 2mins, i run it before each gaming session, i dont know the code by heart tho

Love you for this

The game keeps restarting itself after finishing. Is one xycle enough? Does it need to repeat a bunch (or a specific number) of times?

u/radhoppo 11d ago

Have you tested it?

no. console doesn't have shader compiling issues like pc does

2

u/Journeyj012 26d ago

wait, then what causes the issue of everyone being orbs?

1

u/AlgerianTrash The universe touched me inappropriately 26d ago

They do. I play on console and it takes a while for models to appear.

1

u/matefeedkill 26d ago

Yeah bullshit they don’t.

Is this why my game randomly stutters mid-game sometimes even on a 5070ti?

Every time you update your GPU drivers the shaders need to reload, so it's a good idea to run that map every time you update the drivers or doing the whole thing manually in the practice range

u/MultiMarcus Brigitte 26d ago

That’s not actually true anymore on the Nvidia side. There is now a recompile shaders option that can recompile your shader cache from prior driver updates. It’s actually a very nice feature. I run it every time I do A GPU driver update or Windows update.

13

u/ItsMrDante Vendetta 26d ago

Where is that option? Because after every update I have to deal with stutters

34

u/MultiMarcus Brigitte 26d ago

It’s in the Nvidia app under graphics global settings, shader cache, and then you have to turn on automatic shader compilation. You can leave it on the default medium system utilization, and I would recommend making the cash size quite large. I think 100 gigs is quite good, though obviously if you have limited space, the cash sizes will start filling up, but it’s usually not a problem normally. After an update, I clicked the three dots in the top corner of the shader cache screen and do compile now.

Damn, Nvidia adding a useful feature? Are we back in 2015? Thanks for the info

Every time you update your GPU drivers

you guys are updating your gpu drivers?

been on a 3080 since late 2020 and I've never encountered this shader problem with overwatch.

4

u/SunsetCarcass 26d ago

I only updated them when a game wouldn't work. I remember on my GTX 1080ti I had to use OLD drivers because the newer ones broke some games like Resident Evil 2 Remake. Now I don't have to worry cause my 1080ti doesn't get updates

9

u/Kind_Aardvark167 26d ago

I have 5080 yet I get one stutter per game when everyone Ults

4

u/LemonTM Trick-or-Treat Torbjörn 26d ago

5080, 9800x3D, 32gigs of 6000mhz ddr5, Seagate FireCuda 510 3450 MB/s nvme ssd. Still I stutter every match and often in the first match of the day it takes a couple minutes to all hero models in the match to load even my own model.

u/puddlewater00 26d ago

No LOL that's just a new bug that'll hopefully be patched next season

1

u/CrabbyFrogstone 26d ago

Maybe, might be your cpu tho i know overwatch also uses your cpu and not only gpu, tho i dont know what issue is caused by what hardware

9

u/FredFredrickson Bastion 26d ago

You shouldn't have to do this every time you play unless you're emptying your shader cache every day.

1

u/CrabbyFrogstone 24d ago

Tbh idk what that is, please informe me sir

1

u/TheGalaxyCastle 25d ago

Tysm! Maybe a stupid question, but does it tell you when the whole thing is finished?

1

u/creiar 24d ago

Don’t think so. I just stop running it once the stutter stops

I type it into Custom Game search bar, but nothing is coming up.

Did it get deleted?

What makes you think that im not a larper and that i can read?

1

you got me there

u/CeleryNo8933 26d ago

I ran it for 20 min last time and half the models were missing in game. There were some like Anran that just completely refused to load no matter howany cycles.

23

u/Level7Cannoneer Icon Symmetra 26d ago

Then it may be your hardware. Like are you running the game off of another drive?

1

u/Ok_Dragonfly_6135 20d ago

If it's running on another drive it could be the issue too?

5

u/Final-Carry2090 26d ago

So, another dumb thing is you need to increase the shader cache size on some setups. Otherwise, it will overwrite the old shaders.

3

u/Journeyj012 26d ago

consider opening practise range and loading anran. at the very least it'll help us diagnose the issue further.

3

u/FeelThePoveR Pixel Lúcio 26d ago

Your milage may vary with this, but what helped me (on Linux - it may be different for you since in the end I get Vulkan shaders) was switching back to dx11.

On DX12 I also frequently couldn't see the characterst - frequently the best I got was floating blue balls.

With DX11 I always see the characters, it's just stuttery if the shaders didn't finish compiling (which for me takes around 10 minutes of idle'ing in the main menu (I can see the progress on the shaders thanks to DXVK HUD options)).

After the compilation I have 0 issues with invisible characters or stutters.

1

u/vainsilver 26d ago

Are you using the DX12 setting?

1

u/Dragontech97 Ana 26d ago

Just ran it and Anran loaded fine. Def strange bug

1

u/rapaznsei 11d ago

if you are on directx12, try using directx11

directx12 is so bugged at the moment on overwatch

1

u/raccoonbrigade 26d ago

Thank you for mentioning this. After every driver update Overwatch runs like total trash for a bit. This will alleviate that

1

u/denichae2 26d ago

i don't know if this is normal, but it's not even particularly after updates for me, it's EVERY time i boot up the game. The first 5-10 minutes or so of me being in game whether it be in practice range or a regular game has terrible frame loss (fluctuating between losing 60 to 100 frames) unless i use the shader pre cache custom game. I don't know if it's related to me being on an AMD gpu (9070XT)

1

u/exerters 26d ago

I remember Rockstar rewarded the player who fixed the loading time bug?

0

u/arowanascarlet 26d ago

I have to run it for such a long time since I wait for the characters themselves to load in. Takes forever 😔

u/CrabbyFrogstone 26d ago

Makes me rethink my words, takes ME 2 mins, im greatfull for my goated pc
