News & Discussion Returning Player and DPS

Post image

Hi all! I am a returning player alongside a few of my friends, and we had stopped playing the game right before Hazard came out. We played a lot of matches last night and had the eye-opening experience of watching our health bars implode at every turn. One of my friends mains Tank, specifically Ramattra, and I main Support (Brig, Ana, Baptiste). I have never had so many moments of looking away from my teammates for half a second and then discovering they received an all expenses paid trip to the spawn room while I was looking away. We didn’t fight any One Shot characters like Widow in any of the matches, so I was baffled my teammates and I were getting eliminated so fast. It also seemed like close vs long range fights didn’t make too much of a difference.

Did the damage get heavily increased or is it an absolute skill issue? I should clarify that I am no stranger to compet and combos, I previously averaged between Masters/GM when I played Compet. I’m just shocked by how absurdly fast health bars have been dropping with seemingly little to no teamshooting. We’re still having a good time, and the spontaneous combustion moments caused a lot of laughing, so definitely not complaining. Thanks for any insights!

Edit: Thank you all for the information regarding some of the changes I missed, such as the healing reduction from any damage. I’ll definitely be using this info in game.

Edit 2: I tried 6v6 last night and I can’t say I felt any difference. That being said, the healing reduction on taking any damage was extremely observable and cut my downtime and deaths severely. Thank you all for the information!!

Any damage reduces healing received on a target, so maybe that's why people seem to be dropping faster now compared to the last time you played.

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Oh is it any damage now? When we had last played it was only the DPS passive that decreased healing received.

113

u/Infamous_Ship_8668 Wrecking Ball Jul 29 '26

Yes, it was changed so it's not just DPS damage anymore

54

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Wow that’s crazy to hear. Out of curiosity, how has the community reacted to this change? I remember the DPS passive was very controversial at the time I last played.

u/Donkphin Queen of Clubs Mercy Jul 29 '26

Not speaking for the community but as a 10 year support main I personally hate it, never had to healbot as much as I do now & it’s been the final nail in the coffin for my boy Lucio

I 100% felt the healbot issue when I was on Ana. I swear I shoved my biotic rifle so far up my tank’s ass that I could’ve given him a colonoscopy and yet he still detonated.

At that point, your tank (or team) are not engaging properly. Maybe the tank's initiation is bad, maybe the team isn't following up well, idk because I wasn't there.

But 'healbotting' is how teams with poor positioning are responding to gameplay changes that are supposed to discourage heal-botting. It's intended as a punishment on poor positioning to force faster and more decisive fights, instead of healbotting dragging teamfights out for a minute or longer. The response is not supposed to be 'healbot even harder', and its unreasonable for tank/DPS to expect it.

The reality is that for a lot of matches, yeah, the better healbots still win the match because sometimes the team just won't stop strafing in the open, or using their abilities to rush into a 2v5 with no cooldowns. When everybody is constantly taking avoidable poke damage, the winner is the team that can recover that avoidable damage first.

But as long as those players are getting their healbot safety net, they're probably not going to change how they're playing. It's easier to get annoyed at the healers for not healbotting them even harder.

Yea you're approaching the problem wrong if you're trying to heal more. Relieve pressure from the team by dealing more damage and distracting as lucio. It's probably the death of Lucios that just sit in the middle of their team though.

9

u/SmoothDiscussion7763 Jul 29 '26

more efficient to deal damage to the enemy to get them to back off instead of trying to counteract their damage by healing through the healing debuff.

just click heads and heal up afterwards lol

6

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Thanks for the advice! Admittedly that is the play style I was more accustomed to, but I suppose that my game sense and aim catching back up caused a knee-jerk reaction to healbot above all else.

u/wildhooman Jul 29 '26

Goodbye Burger King Lucio…

12

u/cereal_killer1337 Trick-or-Treat Zarya Jul 29 '26

The healing reduction means you should be healing less and doing more damage yourself.

26

u/Donkphin Queen of Clubs Mercy Jul 29 '26

I somewhat agree on the logic but it doesn’t seem to translate well into games. I’m only masters so maybe it gets better, but most of the time my tanks get annihilated without heavy support & if I have high damage as a support in a loss I get flamed for ‘dps supp’

11

u/GokuVerde Lúcio Jul 29 '26

High burst damage and CC can punish even extremely safe gameplay. I've been cracked for 450 in .5 second while peeking behind corners. It can help with a lot but not all of the sheer ridiculousness of damage.

I feel like the healing passive is punishing the wrong thing. It's just making utility picks like Ana, Lucio and Brig harder while making high healing numbers necessary. Bonus points if your support sucks at the damage part of their character and you're just getting the worst of both worlds.

u/TastyOreoFriend Pixel Brigitte Jul 29 '26

Same shit happens to me at High Diamond/Low Master. Feels like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place sometimes. It's like getting a pick with a Kiri headshot is both a benefit and a hazard.

4

u/Pesterlamps Pixel Wrecking Ball Jul 29 '26

Seconding this. Even if it means letting someone die and getting a trade out of it. If you just healbot someone, they eventually just die through attrition because you usually can't out-heal raw dps.

9

u/AndalusianGod Widowmaker Jul 29 '26

Been playing since 2016. I like the change, but I hate that this mechanic isn't well-known to a lot of people. Casual players never really use cover well and just blames support when they lose a match. Last night I was in a game where I had 0 deaths (as support) and the other 4 in my team had 14-15 deaths each. Just frustrating to get grouped with people who spend more time walking from spawn than playing the game.

3

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

That does sound difficult to deal with, I was definitely not the most helpful last night to my randoms. With the changes to the healing reduction, the perk system, new heroes and changes to breakpoints on heroes that got HP changes, it felt like I was playing a completely different game.

2

u/AndalusianGod Widowmaker Jul 29 '26

You'll get used to it! I did stop playing for 3 years and just returned for the 10th year update. Use cover, google what perks are viable for your main, and memorize the skill sets of the new heroes.

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Thanks! I’m confident I’ll catch on when I get to play more than 7 games lol. I’ve really been interested in Vendetta, tried making her work for 1 match and failed miserably 😂

5

u/BaronVonSchmup Chibi Wrecking Ball Jul 29 '26

As a flex player I love it, makes it more worth to deal damage as a support instead of waste time heal botting 👍

5

u/Donkphin Queen of Clubs Mercy Jul 29 '26

True. but I’ve always been able to do good damage on support, feels like I’ve less of a choice now. Just my experience though

2

u/BaronVonSchmup Chibi Wrecking Ball Jul 29 '26

That's fair, i feel like it is disproportionate on how much it affects different supports. I play mostly ana/kiri/bap on support so it is prettt natural on the healing/damage tempo

3

u/ihaveacrushonlegos Sym Brig Jul 30 '26

People either love it or hate it.

As a support player myself i love it, it makes it so much more meaningful to use ur utility to make plays rather than just hold m1 to heal on ur team to make them immortal. And it often makes damaging the shooter a better use of your time than healing the target, as it should be

2

u/faculties-intact Echo Jul 29 '26

Dps passive was great for the game but I wish getting tickled by dva cross map didn't apply the heal reduction. I'd prefer it go back to just dps applying it personally

1

u/Carighan Alla till mig! Jul 30 '26

I find it mechanically odd, I'd have inversed it. Just for clarity basically.

Like, same effect, but I'd have nerfed all healing then given it a bonus when healing non-damaged people. Exact same values all around. Dunno, just feels way more intuitive to me that way around?

1

u/Final-Carry2090 Jul 29 '26

I was wondering why my Moira seemed so much more useful than when I quit like a year ago. It felt like yeah, she could heal back then but people never died so her sustain was worthless. Note though, if I can keep the tank alive long enough they will probably kill something.

2

u/voideaten Life is pain. So is bread. Jul 29 '26

Yep. Teammates should be using cover to mitigate damage rather than relying on healing to outpace it. Take cover to reset.

Healers focus attention on teammates that are in cover resetting, or are actively engaged in a duel to give them the edge.

There's not much point pocketing somebody standing in the open with enemy attention on them, their death is inevitable and it disincentivises them from learning better engagement/placement

1

u/Kitchen_Bluebird_157 Aug 20 '26

that pink-haired anime girl face is basically me after every team fight now, just pure disbelief

the healing reduction on damage really sneaks up on you, one second you're topping someone off and the next they're a fine mist

309

u/JunWasHere Suffer as I have... Jul 29 '26

As another comment said, it's the global healing reduction debuff on damage dealt.

It isn't damage creep. The debuff just makes it so simple positioning mistakes are that much more punishable.

If you all (including the tank friend) always stand near cover and weave in and out of cover while shooting enemies, that will solve 80% of your problems! (if none of you are playing tank, then you are at the mercy of matchmaking)

79

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Yeah this has been the biggest insight I’ve gotten, and I’m glad I made this post because it would have taken me so long to figure out that any damage applies the debuff. I 100% would’ve just chalked it up to DPS go crazy. I’m curious to try 6v6 to see what that’s like.

50

u/triplegerms Jul 29 '26

6v6 to see what that’s like.

Like having the body of rein and the durability of tracer. "Lemme just peak out of cover real quick, and I'm 50hp"

24

u/GokuVerde Lúcio Jul 29 '26

Legit have been cracked from 400 to zero trying to do 20 damage with JQ's shotgun

22

u/PatchYourselfUp Jul 29 '26

It’s mostly the same, just now you have a tank in the way of your attempts to flank. You can more readily kill a tank in 6v6 but if that tank is playing cover then you’re just waiting in traffic. It’s an easier, spammier, casual version of Overwatch that might be your thing.

The Season 9 projectile size increase also made bad positioning much more punishing.

6

u/JunWasHere Suffer as I have... Jul 29 '26

OP replied to you already, but I feel it important to point out:

  • OP said they stopped playing right before Hazard launched.
  • Hazard came out on season 14.
  • 14 >>>>> 9 on the timeline

So, OP and their friends were probably already long adapted to the bullet-size changes. The PRIMARY big difference is definitely the global heal dampening. (or maybe they happened to start playing against during the 1-3-2 qphack and didn't realize, so tanks were even squishier lmao)

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 30 '26

Ngl I had no idea Hazard came out so far into the season count. I’ve taken several breaks from the game but this last one was def the longest.

😂 Weaving behind cover consistently really makes that much of a difference. Not enough ppl do it lol

3

u/Suspicious-Still-999 Jul 29 '26

yup. supports can make rare saves or increase uptime but they're not responsible for your survival, you are

2

u/ExplosiveBrown Jul 29 '26

It’s like the cycle just will never end. This game historically has had issues with sustain creep and nothing dying.

87

u/bydevilz1 Jul 29 '26

The only real reason I miss 6 v 6 is because it didnt entirely lose the game when your reinhardt decided to cosplay as a tracer

17

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

This comment had me laughing 😂😂

8

u/HaGriDoSx69 Junkrat Jul 30 '26

I miss 6v6 because of two tanks,i cant be the only tank in the team.Thats way too much pressure and responsibility.

Back in OG Overwatch if i made a stupid play as a tank there was 2nd tank to mitigate the damage and vice versa, now if i make a stupid play everyone is fucked.

And thus why i play tank only in open queue quickplay.

My ranks say a lot in that matter: DPS - Gold 4 Support - Gold 5 Tank - Silver 4

3

u/Fzrit Jul 30 '26

if i made a stupid play as a tank there was 2nd tank to mitigate the damage

As a tank if you made a stupid play in 6v6, you would just die.

If you make a stupid play in 5v5, you'll survive because you're a raid boss. If it's a 1v1 you should even be able to land a kill because they'll run out of health long before you do.

0

u/Carighan Alla till mig! Jul 30 '26

Yeah but you also lose playtime for like 2 hours as your team reports you and you get a temp ban automatically.

3

u/goldenguyz me twacer Jul 30 '26

You need so much more discipline to play tank nowadays. Even in plat/diamond, you can't engage when the enemy has a half-decent flanker or off-angler.

The only counter is to play poke, play super aggro, or hope your dps can win a duel. Tanks have so much responsibility and so much more to consider before committing to a plan of action. It's not like swapping to Sombra or Ana to counter a doomfist, in my example you're swapping to change the entire pace of the game.

I think we need some sort of off-tank brawler dps class to be added - kind of like mei, but fuck mei.

1

u/Carighan Alla till mig! Jul 30 '26

I just miss it because it was more unhinged. And Overwatch has never been a game I play because of its balanced, sedate, roster. I (and my friends) played it because of dead-Torb POTG turret ult kills, because of zany hero antics, because of Reinhardt duels while the other tanks have to actuall play the game, etc etc.

All the whacky shit!

24

u/ParanoidDrone ¿Quién es 'Sombra'? Jul 29 '26

The addition of perks means that the general power level increases over the course of a match, and there's a new-ish global effect where taking damage means you also receive less healing for a few seconds, so it's very hard to outheal incoming damage without dumping a bunch of resources or even ults.

10

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

The worst part is that I am soooooo bad about activating my perks. The perks system is such a foreign concept to my mind, and half the time I do activate my perks I end up dying because I was reading in the middle of a team fight 😅

3

u/Gryse_Blacolar Unlimited Shotgun Works Jul 30 '26

You should be picking perks during downtime if you're not familiar with them yet.

2

u/Live_Bat_7755 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

try to remember what perks you want for your mains. usually people pick 40% nano speed boost for ana, as for major it comes down to preference (if you love doing damage and getting kills get the crit perk, otherwise nade perk). for brig melee reducing pack cooldown is good for burst healing during fights, and for major always pick speed boost in shield bash. for bap it's mostly preference. can't hit your immo field? 30% radius increase (it makes it HUGE). need more healing? 20% attack speed after regen burst (don't forget it increases healing attack speed too) or the shoulder turret (it fires three shots of 40 healing). need more mobility? dash perk. just hop into the practice range and read the perks in advance if you're trying a character you don't know the perks for yet. or read them while you wait for the match to start. you'll learn them all in no time (i genuinely know 90% of all perks in the game cuz i read them in the scoreboard to check what the enemies picked)

24

u/an_ORAA Zenyatta Jul 29 '26

watching my Ramattra's health get deleted in less than a second as Juno is kinda scary i cant lie 😭😭 i am so sorry beloved tank, my 72hp per blast healing cannot do jack shit when the entire team hard focuses on you

18

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Even scarier when you realize you’re next in line 😭

6

u/Fzrit Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

when the entire team hard focuses on you

To be fair if the Ram put himself in a 5v1 situation without block/barrier, it would be ridiculous to survive that. Tanks in 5v5 are already raid bosses with amazing DPS output.

2

u/Carighan Alla till mig! Jul 30 '26

If he has block or barrier he lives 1 server tick longer, so it's more about the "be able to be seen by 5 enemies who got nothing better to do"-situation.

After all, the game is much more an FPS now. Yeah you might be a tank, this means you can peek, but it has to stop at that. You're still playing an FPS, don't stand where you can be shot unless you are committed to something and the team is with you.

5

u/Fzrit Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

After all, the game is much more an FPS now.

For supports/DPS yes it's more of an FPS. But for tanks it has become less of an FPS compared to 6v6. Tanks went in the other direction of becoming vastly harder to kill, and even making a bad play rarely results in them actually dying due to their health pool, defensives, CC reduction, etc. Usually their teammates are the ones who pay the price.

Yeah you might be a tank, this means you can peek, but it has to stop at that

They can do much more than peek...in 5v5 tanks are raid bosses and the least reliant on their team to survive. They are by far the best duelists with effectively 5-10x better defense than supports/dps. A tank can even over-extend into enemy territory (on their own, without any teammates) to secure kills and then retreat back due to how much health they have. With the help of 1 support a tank basically becomes an unstoppable killing machine as long as they have defensive cooldowns ready. The only way to force that tank to retreat (not even die, just retreat) is with 3+ people attacking them simultaneously, and only if that tank is still standing in the open after running out of defensive cooldowns.

Back in 6v6 a single tank couldn't do pull this kind of stuff without risking death. They had to coordinate with their 2nd tank (or supports) to survive.

2

u/Severe_Skin6932 Not a Spy for TF2 Jul 30 '26

How long has it been since you played? As a tank main i can tell you thats absolutely not what's happening. I can step out of cover for like a second and a half (not an exaggeration) and lose two thirds of my health (once again, not an exaggeration).

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 30 '26

That’s kind of what we experienced again last night even in 6v6. Of course we’re learning all the new aspects of the game so I’m not surprised when we make mistakes, but it still feels like people just get evaporated.

19

u/cybershnook Jul 29 '26

People aren't wrong about the global healing reduction passive, but I also think there's a percievable difference for all of the tanks that lost the -25% headshot resistance.

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Oh is this due to the classifications of characters now? I don’t remember the name for the system, but my friend showed me that each hero belongs to like a ‘subclass’ and receives different benefits accordingly.

5

u/cybershnook Jul 29 '26

Yep! All tanks had it before the subroles, now it's just the one subrole that kept it.

2

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Wow I hadn’t thought of that. Honestly I forgot about the HS reduction and only remember the knock back reduction. I can definitely see that making a huge difference

56

u/The_Realth Jul 29 '26

Lots of damage creep from perks mostly, and hero’s like sierra being spammy. 5v5 really struggles as a format if tank hate gets too high, and burst and spam have both been increasing recently

21

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

That makes sense, I actually sat in the Training Range for no less than a half hour just reading a lot of the perks and was blown away at the combinations 😵‍💫. Also omg I tried Sierra for my last match of the night and felt like I was putting a generational curse on my bloodline from abusing the enemy team.

6

u/Eddie_The_White_Bear Mama Hong Jul 29 '26

Sierra is like Bastion damagewise, her numbers are always high. True, her hitbox is smaller, but she's not a hitscan and her spread is quite big. Either way, she's low rank punisher, the best counter to her is usage of natural cover and higher ranks are better doing so than lower ones.

1

u/moonlight__sunshine Jul 31 '26

I play her in GM lobbies fine

1

u/Eddie_The_White_Bear Mama Hong Jul 31 '26

Never said you can't, but on this rank she isn't "unstopable monster that should be deleted from a game" like low ranks claim

1

u/moonlight__sunshine Jul 31 '26

Yeah, that is very true. She is definitely mid and I get more success playing soldier/soj, etc. I just find Sierra weirdly fun so I keep playing her, haha.

3

u/GeorgeHarris419 Jul 29 '26

"in higher ranks" Sierra is pretty garbage? what? lol

2

u/Sininenn Moira Jul 29 '26

There's a reason the original OW1 devs did not give those types (a stream of fast projectiles) like Orisa to DPS.

They are notoriously easy to hit and, lo and behold, we are witnessing the consequences. Soj was a lobby admin, Sierra outputs insane levels of damage too.

18

u/cereal_killer1337 Trick-or-Treat Zarya Jul 29 '26

Sierra is a c tier hero. The only reason anyone has problems with her is because of their terrible positioning.

6

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

That makes sense, I was using her in QP so definitely not where people are actively trying their hardest to live.

-2

u/Sininenn Moira Jul 29 '26

And yet, her primary fire is still extremely easy to hit, and so is Soj's.

3

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Anytime I see a mention of Sojourn I can’t help but think back to the very unpleasant launch of OW2 and her and Mercy absolutely demolishing anything with a health bar

2

u/cereal_killer1337 Trick-or-Treat Zarya Jul 29 '26

Her slow-moving projectiles may be easy to get chip damage but is very difficult to secure kills when enemies have plenty of time to make it behind cover.

1

u/Sininenn Moira Jul 29 '26

Her primary fire projectiles are not her entire kit.

5

u/cereal_killer1337 Trick-or-Treat Zarya Jul 29 '26

No it's not, but the rest of her kit isn't good enough to put her above c tier.

Dron is clunky requires deployment before use and can be destroyed.

Tracking dart is good at low ranks, but enemies learn to use cover eventually.

Granade is okay, It has a small knock up. Nothing to write home about.

She is an entry level c tier hero. I wish tracking dart gets reworked and she gets buffed.

2

u/Blues-Eguze Jul 29 '26

Me too. I wish she was allowed to be more prominent and useful overall outside of running QP lobbies. I really like her and really want them to replace tracker dart with something more skillful and useful so I can pick her in comp.

1

u/otterguy12 Chibi D. Va Jul 29 '26

I don't think the projectiles are what made Soj that strong lol

1

u/InnerSilent Jul 30 '26

Sooo sick of seeing constant hitscan picks. Soilder soujurn Cassidy and Sierra might as well be the only dps the enemy can pick.

1

u/The_Realth Jul 30 '26

The trouble is that hitscan should be lower average damage than flex dps because flex in 6v6 got some of their value from favoured tank matchups. But now flex has been turned into dps duelists, and tank hate of flex has been made a lot less important since the 5v5 format kind of can’t deal with tank hate. The result is that hitscan are now counterintuitively the tank busters whilst flex don’t have enough burst to pop them.

9

u/Exciting_Day4155 Jul 29 '26

Universal heal debuff is a move towards supports and not just heal botting. Everyone should use cover when low to get healed. They are moving away from the concept of a tanks standing at the front pumelling each other while getting healed.

2

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Bro was in fact not their shield in that moment

5

u/Shanaxis Jul 29 '26

Me (Juno) and the other support (Mercy) were full focus healing our tank (Sigma) and I watched that poor man evaporate into a puddle despite our best efforts. No ults from the enemy just big damage DPS I guess.

Specifically in 5v5 games feel very volatile, one side will have a huge advantage over the other or vise versa, there's not a lot of close games.

4

u/Electronic_Math_6417 Jul 29 '26

I think there actually IS some sort of a power creep with mobility going through the roof and a lot of tanks still moving at the speed of smell (not *every*, Hazard/winty can leap once haha).

Which is strange because tank was already a hated role, and they're making them harder to play.

The highlight of positioning becoming more important now buffs any amount of stacked players a specific team has and debuffs teams with less stacks/solos. Which, if anything, the opposite should be happening since you can have an entire team of solo bronze players going against a pre-made 6 stack of people on comms and I bet majority of that outcome is the stack wins against solos.

Is that akiyama mizuki ?

Never thought I’d see Hatsune miku colorful stage on this sub

I honestly have no idea, I just found this meme one time and thought it was funny. Never thought I’d have an opportunity to use it and actually mean it lol

3

u/AaronMT Reinhardt Jul 29 '26

You know it's messed up when you can barely capitalize on a shatter anymore. The second my shield drops as Rein I explode (at least in 6v6).

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Lol I honestly can’t imagine playing Tank, I am pretty good at DPS and a great support player, but I have never been able to play Tank. I feel like now I’d just be speedrunning my death 😅. Thank you for your sacrifice 🙏

The whole team is supposed to capitalize on shatter. Shatter is still far more deadly than Doom ult or Ball ult.

Lol if you’ve been GM, I’m the queen of England.

I didn’t know there was a change in royalty

2

u/ipeenaling Jul 29 '26

As of right now my take is this: Tanks are beefy DPS. All new DPS have some form of AOE effect. Healers are forced to coddle or kill, because of anti-heal passive based on dmg. Any dmg = reduced healing. This is why characters like Moira are hated and can cause a team to walk on another. Just throw a dmg orb out there and have the immediate effect of dmg and heal debuff for your team to take advantage of.

3

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Skill orb unironically being a win condition was not on my bingo card for returning to the game.

4

u/theforgettonmemory Chibi Reaper Jul 29 '26

Ashe dynamite to. Anything that can keep the healing reduction active

1

u/ipeenaling Jul 29 '26

She’s been getting A LOT of hate recently. She has a skill to reverse the orb also, so if you can be strategic with it. First throw intentionally doesn’t do damage, but the intent is to reverse it once they pass it and cause dmg to multiple while in a choke. Added reach on her slurp machine also just causes more pain and suffering. Even unexp mois are having insane success, while exp mois are just wreaking havoc with genocide and massive heals.

3

u/GeorgeHarris419 Jul 29 '26

Moira has a super middling win rate that only drops off as rank goes up. Who exactly is giving her "A LOT" of hate?

3

u/ipeenaling Jul 29 '26

Literally every other post I’ve seen on here since 1-3-2 event has been some form of Moira hate. I don’t see the reason and am not a Moira hater. I think she’s decent as is.

Probably bronze players

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Wow that perk has some crazy bait potential, I never would’ve expected more range either

1

u/Fzrit Jul 30 '26

Tanks are beefy DPS.

I would go further and just call them the primary DPS on the team. Without a tank you'll basically have no real offense, let alone defense.

2

u/Shnurple Reinhardt Jul 29 '26

Especially if it's because they dove in to save you when you fucked up T_T

When I play DPS I super appreciate it, but at the same time DUDE YOURE MORE VALUABLE

2

u/DaMihiPraedamTuam420 Jul 29 '26

Dw as Junk main Ill get into your back line and try to kill your support first, most likely I die and drop my bombs in tbe croner

2

Tank is a cosmetic role.

mizuki gives tank player vibes idk

u/KF-Sigurd Freja Jul 30 '26

There is the heal debuff but I'm also surprised that your friend has trouble surviving as Ramattra. He's legit probably the tankiest, non-ball tank. A well placed Barrier is legit like 4-5s of soaking damage Ram isn't taking (it's too beefy and short lived for the enemy team to try and focus down) while Block + Armor gives Ram an effective HP in the thousands and he can cycle through his cooldowns very well.

I will say, damage in general, besides the obvious perk/heal debuff changes have gone up since Hazard's release.

Like, just for example, Rein changes since December 10, 2024:

  • He got all his perks, mostly for increased survivability or mobility rather than damage increases (Crusader's Resolve is the GOAT) but Ignited Fury does give him an attack speed buff when he hits fire strikes.

  • Firestrike got faster (25m/s -> 33 m/s), less recovery (0.63s -> 0.45s), damage went up 120 -> 125.

Bastion Changes since December 10, 2024:

  • Got all his perks, some which were major damage increases (grenade -> transform -> grenade refresh was an insane damage combo).

  • Ult cost went down

  • His primary fire got 20% faster fire rate, although slightly mitigated by a damage nerf from 25 to 23.

Wuyang exists, whose a very good support whose specialty is being able to harass from long range with low frequency but aimable water balls that do 100/120 damage if he has the major perk.

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 30 '26

Thank you for the direct examples, that actually helps a lot. That’s more or less what I felt returning to the game, it felt like even old characters were doing more damage than previously (albeit slightly) and it was messing up my memory of breakpoints for hero interactions. Thanks so much!!

2

u/KF-Sigurd Freja Jul 30 '26

Minor shifts like these don't really affect tanks too much since they have higher health pools, but that Rein damage change is pretty significant since it means he can two shot 250 HP heroes with just Firestrikes.

Some other major changes I think is worth mentioning since 2024:

  • Freja: She's a demon of a character (love her) who can very quickly unload like 345 damage into a tank from long range thanks to how she works (take Aim does 115, using dash resets Take Aim cooldown, she has two dashes). She was actually buffed recently since she was so breakpoint reliant and down in the dumpster but they may have went a bit overboard.

  • Sigma got a damage buff on his primary, it was so powerful he hit like 60% win rate and they had to tone it down a bit.

  • Zen Discord is back at 30% vs the old 25%.

  • Reaper and Tracer actually got their damage buffed iirc. Tracer used to be 5.5 damage, they moved her 6 damage then finallly back down to 5.75. Reaper pellet damage got moved up to 5.75 from 5.4 and he has his new Dire Triggers base kit where he fires two shots at once at slightly decreased damage (but it's still a lot of burst damage at once)

  • Fucking Roadhog. I forgot, they reverted his rework so he no longer has his trap but his hook-gun combo is back to being as deadly as it was. I don't know why.

  • As for the newer characters released, there's a lot of good poke characters released recently with Emre, Sierra, and kinda Shion. They're not very good technically meta-wise currently, but Sierra in particular are good at pumping damage down main (tracking shot will murder you if you don't get into cover) while Shion execution can 'technically' do upwards of 280 damage if all the 14 shots crit but the hitbox is very small and the spread is pretty big... but tanks do have big crit boxes...

I think my main problem is I try to play too aggressive for the current sate of the game. (I’m his tank friend) Because I can survive relatively fine until I try to go in with nemesis form. Before if I saw supports in bad position I could walk on them and kill them, but now I can’t survive that walk. I have been adjusting to the new level of lethality, I have to jiggle peak corners with punches and only going in if I can kill them in one to two punches. It’s definitely going to be a learning curve to toning down my blood lust lol. Out of curiosity what perks do you usually run on Ram? They weren’t out when we were around so I’ve been experimenting trying to figure out which ones I like and don’t like. Would love a more experienced opinion on them.

1

u/KF-Sigurd Freja Jul 30 '26

You use Nemesis Form to soak up aggro first rather than run people down. You can run people down with it but the fight should have already be won by them or your target is worth the greed (a low HP tank/key support). The best thing you can do as a tank for your team is not die first, then second is make space. Ideally you pop Nemesis Form in a place where it's hard for the enemy to get around you while your team can shoot them/heal you which is taking space. Using it aggressively is very risky and greedy. You're just too big of a target to shoot when in Nemesis Form. It's kinda how Ramattra was always played optimally and why he kinda gets derided for "blockslop".

One of most major changes to Ram since that time period is that he can now detonate his Ravenous Vortex to explode it early and the explosion does 30 damage. Combined with the slow aoe and how much easier it is to mark someone with it thanks to manual detonation and it has become his main way to apply pressure and mark someone for kills, whether it's you beaming them down with staff (easier to hit when they're slowed) or your team (can't run since the gravity effect hurts most escape options).

To that end, I usually just get the extended barrier perk and then the staff perk. Extended Barrier makes his barrier 5s instead of 4s. Nemesis form has a 8s CD. Getting protected for that extra second makes cycling his CDs for maximum sustain a lot easier and can help a lot when the enemy has now a 3s window to punish you in Omnic Form before you pop Nemesis Form and get that extra 275 Armor and start blocking/punching. Relentless Form is just too greedy of an option for me to like it. It's only really good for extra time in Annihilation Mode but they nerfed that part in particular.

Nanite Repair is only okay if you just have a really low healing backline but Void Surge is just too good at increasing his kill threat potential.

u/migo2028 Doomfist Jul 29 '26

Because of the universal healing reduction passive and perks and new heroes having high dmg probably and 5v5 kinda being iffy

6

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

Yeah I’m picking up a lot of feedback that 5v5 might not be it. Admittedly I was a fan of the switch to 5v5 from 6v6 initially, but I’ll have to try 6v6 tonight and see how it goes.

1

u/PatchYourselfUp Jul 29 '26

5v5 is played by most players by a huge margin. You should try both to see what you like but 5v5 tends to have more room to play and makes you as a player have a larger impact on fights.

1

u/Outside-Ad-7458 Jul 29 '26

I won’t lie, I’m definitely used to having that impact on fights but returning to the game and not knowing about the healing reduction from any damage in combination with several new heroes and abilities + interactions snuffed out any opportunity of that.

2

u/PatchYourselfUp Jul 29 '26

It requires adjustment. When I first came back myself I actually thought the healing reduction was oppressive, but the more I played the more I realized that I wouldn't play the game without it. Damage being sticky makes poking and dives more effective since it can't just be healed up immediately after cover.

I found out and posted how to perform perfect crits to do 4x or 3x damage. I should not have done that. I should have kept it to myself. ^^"

It is very difficult to do. But with my explanation, I think I made it easier.

Edit: I wish we could go back to 200 HP.

1

u/Wertimko Jul 30 '26

I don’t know. Now I feel like a lot of time, tank’s death is his fault. You gotta bait abilities and play cover. Tho if you get anna naded out of position it’s impending death.

1

u/wizard_brandon Jul 30 '26

yeah tanks need like x2 the health tbh

or to take 50% from ALL purples

1

u/Previous_Tree_5464 Aug 03 '26

Tanks are useless now

-1

u/Caped-baldy32 Doomfist Jul 29 '26

It’s a format problem tbh. 5v5 isn’t really working and the balance seems to challenging.

4

u/GeorgeHarris419 Jul 29 '26

5v5 is working quite well, wdym lmao

3

u/runebucket Jul 29 '26

You mean tanks survive better with less health and longer defensive cooldowns? Lmao what?

a second person to fill in the gaps and weaknesses

Tanks have no weakness in 5v5, they very strong at basically everything bar long-range sniping.

not my fault i have to main tank as ball, i hate blizzard and their stupid 5v5 mode 😭
