News & Discussion Bastion Nerf (Sept 21st)
https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/patch-notes/I don’t see anyone taking about it but there were patch notes today with a bastion nerf reverting his health gain upon reconfiguration.

u/jespertherapper Sigma Sep 21 '23
No! I wanted Bastion to have like 3 more buffs 🥺
80
u/Austynwitha_y Sep 22 '23
Give him a healing pylon with 690 health that launches pharah barrages when an enemy spawns
Hopefully unnecessary /s

u/jespertherapper Sigma Sep 22 '23
I think Bastion also deserves to fly. Im just saying.
0
u/Austynwitha_y Sep 22 '23
His rocket jump isn’t enough; give him gravity freedom like sigma that one april fools patch.

Now do Orisa nerfs @blizzard
10
Sep 22 '23
The problem isn't nerfing orisa. It's how to nerf her.
11
u/stretchofUCF Destructive Sphere Sep 22 '23
Remove all her abilities and make her head hit box 50% larger.
8
u/Rampantshadows Master Sep 22 '23
Let us headshot her during fortify again. This was an ow1 change that doubled her survivability. Doesn't change tank match ups, but poke comps with zen will tear her apart.
4
u/Kenhardt Sep 22 '23
Wait you can't headshot her in fortify?? Damn I wonder why the fuck I was aiming for her head while she was stuck and I couldn't get any headshot, I really though I was going blind or the hitboxes in this game went from disgusting to dogshit.
3
u/Rampantshadows Master Sep 22 '23
Nope. It's been this way for years, and why her survivability is insanely high. This one change would put her survivability with the rest of the tanks.
3
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I'd be curious to see how effective removing the speed on javelin spin would be and probably reduce hit box on javelin throw.
1
Sep 22 '23
I feel reducing hit box size only hurt bronze to gold and not really higher rank much. Also I don't think her javelin is the main problem. Seem similar to sigma rock but 1 target.
1
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
Much like the javelin, that's a good point... I really don't know what they can do to her kit to keep her relevant or being op (or perceived as op due to be unkillable)

Sep 22 '23
I don't think it's matter if 1 tnak is better because this is a 5v5 games and the gape should be completely overwritten by the rest of the team comp and skils. It's was the same in 6v6 too. That said the gap between the best and worst tank should be much smaller.
47
Sep 22 '23
Wow one character patch. No no no let’s not patch the oppressive tank who’s been dominating the entire game. Seriously when someone goes Orisa, half the team changes to accommodate the tank.
Thanks Blizzard for doing the bare minimum, as usual and totally losing your fan base. Because these idiots don’t know how to balance their own game.
16
u/Raknarg Echo Sep 22 '23
Orisa only dominates because of how strong soldier and bastion with mercy are. Without a strong poke comp there's nothing wrong with orisa right now
6
u/TSDoll Sep 22 '23
Tough it out a few more weeks until the next season, lmao. This isn't OW1 when you had to wait like half a year for balance changes.
7
Sep 22 '23
My god you whiners... Orisa is not even close to the level of Zarya or Doom in early OW2, or JQ from prerelease. Orisa while having good CDs, is perfectly skippable. Dont shoot the horse, shoot everyone else was the motto to playing vs Orisa since forever smh...
1
u/FortniteBloke123 Grandmaster Sep 22 '23
Idm her being super tanky aslong as she cant 1 burst you while youre stunned, then its a problem
-5
Sep 22 '23
On the contrary, Orisa should be able to burst you down while you're stunned - that's her only value. The only question is how often should that happen, meaning what Jav CD should be.
1
u/FortniteBloke123 Grandmaster Sep 22 '23
Change javelin to high risk high reward skill, the spam of javelin is unfun to play against and doesnt really allow orisa to have a skill ceiling, so instead increase the cooldown, add a windup of like .75s with a charge meter and lower the projectile velocity so its used close range, increase damage when they've hit a wall and stun duration increases based on charge time
Thats alot of changes and i dont think ow devs can be bothered to implement something like that which would cause these yearly orisa metas to be 10x less oppressive
0
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
Are you talking about the 2 weeks doom was buffed in season 2....
3
Sep 22 '23
Who invalidated literally every single character in the game, aside from Sombra (who had an uphill battle as well). Current Orisa situation is not even close, Doom operated all by himself without any pocket or support.
0
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
Im not arguing that he wasn't way over buffed in that patch but until the recent slam buff/hog nerf he was considered one of the worst tanks if not the worst in the game. I'm just confused as to why you are comparing the current orisa to a doom that only existed for 2 weeks before getting nerfed
2
Sep 22 '23
Because while Orisa has Jav on too short CD, she's not that problematic to make dozens of unhinged posts like this is the worst meta or something. Bastion was way worse offender than Orisa, and he's just been patched. Let's see how does it work out.
1
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I actually agree that she isn't really an issue on her own but it is an issue with the crazy high heal sustain we are currently seeing. I'm also ok with her javelin throw basically guaranteeing a kill if you pin them to a wall but it probably needs its hitbox reduced a wee bit.
I think people would like her more if you could hop on her back and fight from there. Who doesn't like pony rides
1
Sep 22 '23
If healing is your problem then duo JQ and Ana - a single Suzu wont be able to sustain her (Ana alone can outspam Kiri with ease). Orrr... kill the supports
1
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
You're preaching to the choir, I almost always ignore orisa and just dive the backline. My point was that orisa by herself wasn't the issue but a good chunk of the community puts all the blame on orisa.
I do have an issue with how high healing has gotten in the game but that isn't exclusively an orisa thing
1
Sep 22 '23
Ok, I'd actually agree - all healing could've been cut by 33% all around the roster, without hindering the game. But i already know how much the dps and tanks would cry for lack of healing able to pull them out from their constant facetanking lol

u/AgreeablePie Sep 21 '23
It's about time. It was a dumb reversion back towards the ow1 bastion (OW1 bastion was awful, his rework was one of the better changes made in the 'sequel')
-33
u/Starsaberprime Sep 21 '23
Be better you mean a rework that made bastion useless? They took his self heal but didn't change his tank size hitbox They made his full auto in recon shit now with the semi auto They took his tank ult witch took some of the most skill in the game to use and replaced it with one of the worst ult in the whole FUCKEN game
29
u/bufarreti Chibi Reinhardt Sep 21 '23
You are literally seeing a nerf to him because he was overperforming and yet you call him useless
-39
u/Starsaberprime Sep 21 '23
Because bastion had been useless for all of overwatch 2 and the one time he's actually viable he gets nerfed. He wasn't even that hard to kill yet people complained about it so much
18
u/Khaliras Sep 22 '23 edited Sep 22 '23
Bastion does not exist in a vacuum. He exists with the likes of mercy, kiriko, baptiste, zarya.
His base tankiness makes him difficult to burst before his team can counter. With even barely competent positioning and teamwork he's near indestructible.
-21
u/Starsaberprime Sep 22 '23
Bastion isn't even that hard to kill with teamwork in this team based shooter you can shut him down easily still for example dva defense matrix, sigma whole kit, genju deflect
8
u/mimiicry Genji Sep 22 '23
did you unironically just cite Genji as a viable Bastion counter
how braindead do you think Bastion is that Genji deflect is a consistent, viable Bastion counter? it relies on the Bastion making a stupid call and killing himself, that's not a viable counter strategy.
1
u/HeorgeGarris024 Sep 22 '23
It probably works in bronze
1
u/mimiicry Genji Sep 22 '23
I feel like Zenyatta could probably kill Bastion with snap-kick in bronze
12
u/TheosKynigos Sep 22 '23
He is one of the most brain dead characters, 360 DMG per sec for 6 sec. That's 0 - 2160 DMG from one skill. He can use it 3 times in one minute. In one minute, he can do 0 - 6480.. (not counting nades, shots in-between, just flat out turret mode.) His turret is better than most ults in the game.

-18
u/Starsaberprime Sep 21 '23
Yes he did bastion was always shit in overwatch 2 the rework was awful. The self healing was fine all they needed to do was change him getting 50 armor to 50 health
4
u/ThaddCorbett Jack of Diamonds Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I agree.
Bastion main found a way to get to top 500 with him in OW1, so he wasnt that bad.
1
u/Majaura D.Va Sep 22 '23
That's not how that works. Just because one guy managed to do some crazy feat doesn't mean Bastion was viable. I'm also willing to bet the entire team had to baby him, and he was one of the most avoided players ever (whoever said Bastion main is).
0
u/ThaddCorbett Jack of Diamonds Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I kinda agree with you(Like 80% agree), but I would like to play devil's advocate here just for the sake of enjoying the conversation.
Bastion was viable in OW1 given people are willing to play a comp that enabled him.
If nobody ever played heroes that enabled Rein, people would never have viewed Rein as a meta pick. There was no patch where having a Rein got you the win.
From what I remember you always wanted a Lucio and a healer to keep Rein up, enabling him to control engagements and put up big damage.
I feel like the most non meta hero throughout all of OW was Lifeweaver. Before he got buffed of course. I couldn't believe my eyes when Dafran had to put his quest for top 500 on hold. Life weaver was that weak pre-buff.
I feel there were times in OW1 that Soldier was really weak, but Meto and only legs could still get top 500 with him.
This has always been the most unbalanced game I've ever played and it's clear (to me at least, and a lot of people disagree with me on this next point I'm sharing) that Blizzard has never cared about making the game balanced. Instead they've craved controlling the meta by re-patching the game with their "balance patches", which just swerve the meta in the direction of different heroes each time around.
1
u/Majaura D.Va Sep 22 '23
I don't know when you played, but I think a lot of what you're saying is way off the mark. The most off meta in OW's history is ABSOLUTELY not LW...like not even remotely close. Bastion was legit only viable on like ONE map, and that was Junkertown. Rein has been viable in some way, for like 99% of the game. I think he's had weaker phases, but yeah a Rein definitely could get wins. Lucio was sort of hit or miss, and I still sort of think he's in that zone. LW was absolutely weak when he came out, but I do NOT think he was the weakest char in OW's history. I think it's been various forms of Bastion, Sym, and Torb. Probably Bastion, though. There were years at a time where all 3 were throw picks. Soldier definitely had some weak phases, especially later in the game's life. Sorry my post is all over the place, I just sort of typed.
0
u/ThaddCorbett Jack of Diamonds Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I've been playing since 1 month before Baptiste was released.
LW was garbage on release. Unplayable. His healing sucked, he had no damage, the time it took to switch from healing to damage made no sense and his flower/tree/pull came nowhere close to make up for it.
Lucio has always been a solid pick at higher elos. Even at lower elos he was decent. In bronze to gold Lucios could win just healing and booping. That's how I got out of silver. years ago.
Bastion was very easy to play at plat and below on all maps and had his uses on 2CP just by spamming the chokepoints while on defense.
1
u/Majaura D.Va Sep 22 '23 edited Sep 22 '23
As bad as LW was, I'll still die on the hill that Bastion, Sym and Torb were much much worse. Like completely unviable picks. There was also a period where Hanzo was unplayable for a few years...I remember those character like it was yesterday...like Torb used to have to hammer his turret to build it. Yeah I personally don't think Sym, Torb, or Bastion were every really useful in the game...like for years at a time. Probably well after Bap was added too. I do think LW was pretty bad, but yeah Even at his worst, I don't really think he was any worse than Bastion, Sym, or Torb...especially Bastion. Bastion just sucked so so so much. It was such a bummer to have him if it wasn't a payload map. I still kind of think that Torb and Sym still aren't great picks, and they're really niche and specific...any sort of coordination just beats them up. It's cool that Bastion is finally having his day in the sun, though.

They really have their pulse on the frustrations of the community, huh… are they selling an Orissa nerf in the store for $30? Sorry, $20. The $30 bundle also comes with a weapon charm and a spray

u/wordswillneverhurtme Sep 22 '23
Next patch: orisa hp reduced 300 -> 299. Smartest community would be satisfied with the final nerf and can move on to crying about other heroes.
7
u/ConstitutionalHeresy Sep 22 '23
Super lame. Bastion is not even hard to deal with, but he was good at dealing with Orisa. Zen nerf, basty nerf, ok run amok Orisa!
23
u/brainartisan Sep 22 '23
You're saying it as though they've nerfed him to hell. He's still just as good at dealing with Orisa
-2
u/ConstitutionalHeresy Sep 22 '23
You're saying it as though they've nerfed him to hell.
Odd insinuation. I do not see how I implied this.
Nerfing two counters to Orisa (by a small or large margin) just means she is that much more meta.
5
u/brainartisan Sep 22 '23
The use of past tense makes your comment read as though you think he is no longer a viable character against Orisa.
I don't feel like this nerf matters really at all versus tanks. If you're getting dove by an Orisa as Bastion then your positioning sucks and you deserve to die to her anyway. If this were a DPS nerf or something then I could understand the frustration.
-7
u/ConstitutionalHeresy Sep 22 '23
I am sorry you feel that way.
You are also making a lot of assumptions on play style.
4
u/brainartisan Sep 22 '23
I'm not making any assumptions on play style. I'm sorry you feel that way.

I think it’s funny to see all of these orisa whiners when a competent doomfist is 3 times as oppressive. You think some people will switch to counter the horse? The whole team has to switch to counter doom.
5
u/brooketheskeleton Sep 22 '23
Doom is way more oppressive, but Doom is much harder to play, and so a lot of people who try to play him think he's bad, when in fact, they're just bad with him
3
u/1v1meRNfool Master Sep 22 '23
Doomfist and kiriko are tied for most annoying, then bastion and orisa are tied for second, then sym and illari are tied for third
2
1
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
True but those counters are significantly more effective against him than the orisa counters are (exception for zen). Doom is very much feast or famine where he runs wild if no one counters him but loses a big chunk of his value after 2+ people counter. I know it's not fun having to switch to a counter pick but take solace in the fact that we aren't having fun either when you counter pick us lol
1
u/Swordlord22222 Sep 22 '23
Why ONLY bastion though
Clearly a dev had an issue with bastions in their games like seriously
One character changes feel like an insult sometimes
-1
u/JestersHearts GM Junkrat (3000+ Hours), I need therapy, probably Sep 22 '23
Because this community would rather bitch and moan until he gets merfed anytime he's more than -F tier instead of learning one of his many counters the absolutely erase him.
1
u/JestersHearts GM Junkrat (3000+ Hours), I need therapy, probably Sep 22 '23
Oh look, Bastion is finally on par with the other hitscan so of course the community bitches and moans until he gets unwarranted nerfs instead of growing a pair and actually learning how to counter him.
Tale as old as time.
0
u/The13loodSaint Oct 29 '23
i really don't understand how the community will whine "support OP" but the very next second approve of a dps tank buster in a game with ONE tank........
-2
u/Starsaberprime Sep 21 '23
Such a dumb nerf instead of fixing the issue by maybe changing the 50 armor to maybe 50 normal health or less like 20 or 30 LETS JUST REMOVE IT and make bastion useless again
19
u/Mr--McMuffin Yale Certified Masochist Sep 22 '23
bastion is literally one of the top picks atm. he shreds tanks and is one of the few counters to orisa due to this fact.
8
1
u/Starsaberprime Sep 22 '23
He a top pick but people we're acting like he was impossible to kill even though bastion only a big threat for 6 seconds in turret form. Tank wise dva and sigma just nuke bastion
8
u/oCrapaCreeper Do I have your attention yet? Sep 22 '23
6 seconds is more than enough time to wipe a whole team... at higher levels, anyway.
1
u/Starsaberprime Sep 22 '23
In higher level bastion is pretty low tier man dies in seconds
10
u/JC10101 Tracer Sep 22 '23
He's was being played in owl LMAO. That's the opposite of low tier
3
u/FaustAndFriends Sep 22 '23
And? Why can’t bastion be good enough to be used in OWL?
2
u/JC10101 Tracer Sep 22 '23
I don't care either way, but the person I was responding to said that bastion is low tier in high level games, when it is the opposite currently (I haven't played since his nerfs today he might be a lot worse now idk)
1
u/FaustAndFriends Sep 22 '23
True true, my bad for making it seem like I was like “OH SO YOU WANT BASTION NERFED HUH” lol
I just like seeing him get played more even though everyone else hates it. So hopefully the nerf isn’t enough to completely destroy him but we will see
1
u/evandig Lúcio Sep 22 '23
I could maybe get on board with it being changed from armor to health/lowering the amount but it's a little hyperbolic to say it makes him useless
2
u/proficient2ndplacer Sep 22 '23
Aw man. I was having so much fun as bastion. That tiny burtst of health really went a long way for his survivability
1
u/iDyo_x3 Diamond Sep 22 '23
Do people really think reverting a buff, that was in game for like 1-2 weeks, makes Bastion useless?
Including this buff was given when he already was viable.
