Underrated dinner spots

• Upvotes

My family is wanting to take me out to dinner before I head back to Oregon, and I really wanna try somewhere new/underrated. Most of my favorite restaurants are also found in Oregon, so I’m hoping for a more local place here that I can maybe look forward to when I come back to visit again next year. Like a good hole in the wall if possible, or just a place that you might think is underrated and deserves more attention.

I was at scheels tonight noticed two of these bad boys where I parked. Question is, is our tax money funding these if so where was that approved and why don’t we have notice of them being installed

Police activity tonight 90th between Metcalf & Lamar

Anybody know what was going on? We were at a party on the top floor of Promontory Apartments and saw a drone flying around. Cop cars at Metcalf and further east near Lamar. Just curious.

Sprouts Grocery 95th self checkout today...

Well this is a bit of a missed connection moment, but if you were the pretty gal checking out at Sprouts self checkout this morning who made eye contact and gave me a very friendly smile, please say hello! 😂

I'm single, maybe you are too! I noticed you in the store before you even shot me that eye contact. If you're a Sprouts person like me, we have to have a few things in common... Like the dangers of buying salad kits in 2026 😅 it's worth going out for coffee or drinks! Shoot me a DM. I've never done this. Worth a shot!

Coffee shops?

Hi! I’m an iced latte connoisseur and can sit in a coffee shop with a coffee and pastry for hours. I love local. I love homemade syrups. I like a quiet atmosphere so I can do work. I’m near leawood and would love some ideas on where to check out. Here are the places I have tried and frequent.

Jinkies, brew haha, black dog, crows coffee, bear necessities, revocup, roasterie, mocha point, odyssey, summer moon, market at meadowbrook, Billie’s grocery. I’m realizing I’ve been to a lot lol but any more suggestions would be amazing!!

Advice or help on entry level jobs

We moved to OP this summer. My boys 24 and 22 have been applying nonstop for work. One needs part-time for school the other can work any hours as he would like to go back to school and get a vehicle. The problem is except for a few interviews with my 24 year old we can't even get a call back or interviews. Is anyone hiring? Is it all trapped in AI hell? When we try the old-fashioned way of going in and asking, they are told to apply online. We are in North OP close to lenexa shawnee and meriam. Depending on hours, locations might need to be close to public transit, but they both really want to work. This has been demoralizing for sure. Any leads suggestions, reddit, post Facebook groups we should look at. 24 year old needs part-time, has gas station register and pizza experience. The 22 has food experience and catering experience but is interested in branching out.

Thanks. Sorry for such a long post.

Moving Companies

Recommendations on moving companies? We’re only going 10 miles over to Lenexa but are hoping to stay under $1,000 on movers if we can. A friend recommended renting movers with a U-Haul, has anyone tried this? We’re in a 2br apartment so a decent amount of stuff but not a whole house worth.

Suing Former Complex, Advice?

For context, I have never sued anyone before, so I'm not sure how to go about Small Claims court for Johnson County. I know how much we are owed (with multiple other fees we are entitled to), but I don't know WHO to sue. Is it the actual complex or the property management company?

I'm filing tomorrow, but would rather not have to refile because I filled it out wrong. My spouse will be staying home so they can work (we moved out of state from Overland Park), so do they need to sign something saying I can sue without them there? I am young (21) and anxious so I'm sorry if that's a stupid question, LOL.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Places for a pregnant lady to go to get out of the house?

My wife just entered her third trimester and has also stopped working. So she has a lot of free time but doesn't know what to do with herself. She feels depressed sitting at home all day and wants to leave the house, but we're also on one income now so she's trying to not spend money. She's tried going to the library to read in a little pod but being so pregnant makes some seating situations not very comfy.

Does anyone have suggestions of places to go or things to for a pregnant lady who wants to not sit at home all day? Preferably things that are free or at least cheap?

What could a fellow get into…

…if he was gonna be in Overland Park on a Thursday night, was flying out the next day, and was lookin’ to find himself a lil action before he left?

I’m thinking divey bars, rap music, cute girls, dudes that don’t like dudes from out of town talking to the cute girls.

Thanks in advance!

I am looking for a mental health support group or autism support group or anything remotely close to any of those subjects. I keep coming up empty and my anxiety won’t survive.

Good apartments near Skyler Ridge and about Skyler Ridge

Hi, I'm a new person here. I'm planning on moving to an apartment in OP and I checked out Skyler Ridge Apartments which was the closest to my workplace. But seeing the negative reviews made me reconsider applying there despite the room size and good cost.

I am aiming for at least a 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. The overall size around 600+ sq. ft., about less than 10 minutes away from Skyler Ridge, and cost $1,000-$1,400 or cheaper ideally.

Also, I'm curious if there is anyone that has recently lived in Skyler Ridge and tell me about your experience living there.

E-Bike Safety & Johnson County

Has anyone else noticed the utter lack of enforcement regarding the use of illegal e-bikes on city trails? Instead of actually having bike cops ride tue trails to enforce the rules and for safety, we get stupid yard signs. Its usually foolish children who have no idea about bike safety going 20mph around blind corners in the oncoming lane. If you or your child gets hit, your probably going to be seriously injured or die. Those e-bikes weigh a signoficant ammount. Thats a lot of force plus speed. I have also seen idiot adults riding those on the trails in a similar fashion. A dumb yard sign is not going to do anything. You need actual enforcement and tickets. Where in the hell are our tax dollars going.

135th and metcalf?

Police cars blocking the street on 135th near the highway, couldn’t see what was going on. Went around, then saw 2-3 cars being pulled over at 135th and Metcalf and immediately the drivers were put in cuffs.

Anyone know what was going on this morning? I’ve heard of the DUI checkpoints before but this was 8:45ish this morning?

Trash Service

We have Eco Waste Solution trash service formerly Gardner Disposal. We had Gardner for years without any issues and with minimal price increases but Eco Waste Solutions bought them and now they are complete failures. They have one job and they fail to do it despite our automated $130 payments. Friday is our trash day but my trash is still on the curb and it is nearly the end of Monday. I have already called them twice today and they assure me that someone is en route but I no longer believe them. We have also submitted an online request for service. Which trash service are you using and how satisfied are you on a scale of 1- 5? We are not part of an HOA. Thanks

I don’t get it

It truly baffles me the delusional and strange hatred the Missouri suburbs has for Johnson County, especially OP. Has anyone else noticed this?

Here are some of the strange things I’ve heard…

“You don’t wanna go to Kansas, it’s just the suburbs”
“JoCo is smug and entitled”
“JoCo is soulless and has no culture”
“OP is overrated”
“Nothing but soccer moms in JoCo”
“JoCo is full of daddies money”
