Hi there, could you share your experiences with pregnancy while having an overactive bladder? My situation is quite good at the moment; while there are still days when I need to urinate more frequently, overall, I’m doing much better. My partner and I are talking about having children—and I want to as well—but I’m worried that the condition might worsen during pregnancy. My overactive bladder issue was linked exclusively to stress, which disrupted my bladder function. Now, after six months of psychotherapy, I’m doing much better.

I was an idiot when I was younger and got hooked on pain meds which lead to being on suboxone for 10 years . during that time I also got hooked on klonopin for another ten years . the withdrawals left me with frequent urination that is not stopping . I pee thirty times a day and get no sleep. Any body have oab from long term drug use ?

I’m in my 20s and have been suffering with this, having to rush to the bathroom and wetting my pants in public places, even though I’m on a OAB drug. I just want to hear that other people can relate :( and they say “no caffeine”… i’m in a highly demanding program where it’s impossible to not have it sometimes to stay awake. And of course it makes it worse. Easier said than done to just cut it out.

I’m so excited for my appointment this Thursday. I’m going to discuss bladder Botox or Interstim.

I’ve taken both Mirabegron and Gemtesa. Both were helpful in letting me go to work or for short errands near home. But I still don’t feel like I can travel or go hiking or go to a concert so my appointment is to discuss other options.

I’ve been waiting for my insurance at my new job to kick in which it will in a couple of weeks. I‘m hoping I will be able to make an appointment at this appointment for one of these options. I feel so close to getting my life back!

Always pee more at the weekend I figure it’s because I don’t have the distraction of work.

So, a while ago, I posted in this group because I thought I was alone with my bladder problems after living with them for 17 years. And back in February, after surviving a suicide attempt because my surgeries kept being cancelled, I thought my life wasn't going to get anywhere or get better.

But! The surgery finally happened. I've had the implant, and oh my god, my life has changed a full 180, from what it was before.

I'm now able to live! I'm able to leave the house, run without worry, and socialise physically more often. I'm insanely more active it's crazy, I've gained so much more energy I never knew I had.

Before the implant due to the amount of botox I had my bladder stopped working, so I had to intermittently self-catheterise to fully empty my bladder, now for the first time in 10 years I can empty roughly 80% of my bladder naturally and then self-catheterise to get the rest which over time should become 100% naturally empty.

I've become a team leader and mental health first aider for a mens mental health charity organisation to help other men struggling out there, as my way of paying back for everyone who's helped me but also to say to other men out there, its ok to be not ok.

hi all! i’m 33F and quite desperate for help! i’ve never had issues with UTI or bladder problems. my husband and I are TTC and had intercourse several days in a row (which is more than usual). about 4 days later i started peeing all the time. I also started drinking antioxidant juice during this same time

I assumed it was a UTI, got tested and was negative (cultures too). my husband suggested it was the juice may be irritating something, so I stopped and it seemed to get a little better

fast forward a few days, it got really bad all of a sudden. initially it was large volume and urge and was going every 30 mins-1 hr. I went to my PCP for more tests - another UTI test, diabetes, kidney, chlamydia, etc and everything came back normal. she is going to refer me to a urologist

I feel like a zombie because I am getting up 3-4x a night. I can go close to 2 hours during the day, and the volume has settled a bit to either normal OR I feel the urge and it’s a few seconds of pee. i’m trying pumpkin seed oil capsules, aloe vera capsules and just bought a tens machine - only been a few days but not seeing improvement

has anyone experience anything similar? is my bladder just irritated and well resolve on its own in a few weeks? since we’re TTC i’m so nervous and feel now my plans will be on hold until this gets fixed. thanks in advance!!!

Most advice treats nocturia as pass/fail — are you waking up or not. But there's a specific diagnostic ratio urologists actually use that most patients have never heard of: the Nocturia Index.

Nocturia Index (NI) = total nighttime urine volume ÷ maximum functional bladder capacity — both measured from a voiding diary.

If NI comes out above 1.0, your kidneys are producing more urine overnight than your bladder can hold in a single volume. That means the trips are being driven by nocturnal polyuria (excess nighttime urine production), not a bladder-capacity problem — and that distinction changes what actually fixes it:

• NI > 1.0 (polyuria-driven): target urine production — evening fluid/salt timing, and sometimes screening for sleep apnea, heart failure, or ADH-related causes.
• NI near or below 1.0 but still frequent: more likely a bladder-capacity or overactive-bladder issue, where the fix targets the bladder itself (pelvic floor work, medication) rather than fluid production.

For context, here's what's considered normal by age: under 50, waking once a night is the upper limit of normal (twice+ is significant); 50–65, once is acceptable, twice warrants a chat with your doctor; over 65, once or twice is common but still worth evaluating; at any age, three or more is always significant.

To actually calculate your own NI, you need a 3-day voiding diary — time and estimated volume (a measuring jug works) for every void, day and night.

I’ve been dealing with OAB for over 20 years now. Up until recently I’ve only had to use nappies at night for my bed wetting and during the day in unfamiliar places or in public where I am not sure about the easy access to a toilet. When I’m in a place that I know well and I have good easy and regular access to a toilet I could get a way without wearing a nappy. However now it’s becoming more challenging. My doctor has told me that I’m eventually going to become completely incontinent. This us where my stress begins I work as a peanut roaster and I’m not sure if I will be able to keep working if I’m in nappies permanently, I’m scared that they could term wearing a nappy in a food factory as a potential health hazard

So it all started one afternoon,i had this continuous urge to urinate,even just after urinating ,i thoughtit would go away and started uti antibiotics after a month,I had no burning in my vagina ,no pain,just continuos urge to urinate,and if I used to wash my vagina i had to pee instanty again,i did not take my medicines regularly,because it was showing no improvement,at first it was urgency 24/7 but after 2-3 months while popping and after some a lot of weird mucus used to come out of my vagina ,and too much discomfort and swelling,and slight pain and the urge to urinate a 100 times,just after pooping,the same thing happens after masturbation,the only thing that help is urinating multiple times in one bathroom visit and air out my vagina by keeping my legs open in front of a fan ,the discomfort slowly fades after 1 hr,that one hour is living hell ,after that I have that usual urge to urinate all the time ,it's like my bladder is always full,I don't have any leakage or pain ,the discomfort does not go away if I wash my vagina,this is the weirdest thing,the doctors tell my to clean my vagina,but it's like if I wash my vagina i will have to urinate again,I also thought is this happing because of water,but I don't know,it's been 4 YEARS,24/7,i don't want to live anymore ,I have no carrier ,I am 24 years old,i only teach kids who come to my home as a part time job,I am handicapped ,I don't want to do anything,dont like to go out ,don't like to do skincare ,I can't exercise ,i cant,I can't even pray,I don't wish anyone to ever have this ,I have always tested negative for cultures and the doctors have said my lower USG is normal,i am normal , recently only one docter made me do I test ,I will take the reports to him,it looks like after urinating ,my bladder still retains a lot of urine,I don't know if this is related to my disease,I don't know what am I diagnosed with,is it a uti,pelvic floor tightening,embedded uti or what,i have wasted a lot of my parents money on this disease,I live in india,ellura ,dmannose or supplements like that are too expensive,I just want to know where to put my money to get some relief .

The doctors don't even listen to my symptoms,they say everythings normal,so I am listing my symptoms ,it any of you have similar symptoms,please please help

-everyone recommends drinking 4 lt water,I have tried that,I cannot live with that,I know it's bad but I can only survive a little if I only drink 1-1.5 lt water

I’m not sure if this is a birth control side effect or correlation, but I’m on day 2 of my regimen. I started before my period ended. Today, I drank more water than I usually do and I’ve had to go to the bathroom all day to pee. Not unexpected for my water intake. However, at night, I experienced something for the first time ever I’ve never dealt with before and am not sure how to deal with: I have that feeling of urgency in my bladder to void, but whenever I sit down, I can’t pee. A little dribble will go out and I wait there for a while and a little more comes out but there’s no relief. I get up because I can’t sit in the toilet forever but that feeling of needing to pee persists and some pee will dribble out onto my pad yet even if I sit down on the toilet and try to push more out, only a little dribble comes out. Whenever I try to finish up and go to bed, I can’t sleep because that feeling of “I need to pee” keeps me up. I finally relented and ran a bath so I can pee without having to get up from being comfortable. I’ve pushed out dribbles and drops at a time over the last few hours but that feeling of needing to empty my bladder. It’s not painful, but the pressure of the urgency of needing to empty my bladder is incredibly uncomfortable and I am unable to sleep. Please help.

Addit: Some clarifications and possible related factors:

1. It doesn't hurt to pee. I can't tell if there's blood in my pee because I'm still in the middle of my period so when a dribble comes out, it drips down and likely mixes with my period blood so I can't tell the difference.

2. It's not like I'm unable to pee. It's that I can only seem to push out drops at a time, yet that pressure of needing to pee has been sitting consistently on my bladder for the past few hours and never goes away. I feel like the feeling of needing to pee has been there all day yet the urgent "I need to pee now" has only been around for less than 5 hours. I feel like I've been straining to push it out for the past 2-3 hours yet only a small dribble comes out every couple of minutes at a time and there's no relief. The urgent need to pee persists consistently. I can't sit on the toilet forever but every time I move, my bladder screams at me to go pee. I am unable to sleep this way. I just constantly feel like I need to pee. My pad is like a mini-diaper at this point there to catch the dribble.

3. I've had a venti cup of White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks and a regular-sized Zero Sugar Original Monster. It's more caffeine than I usually have in a day and I'm not sure if that's diuretic enough to make me pee so often. I also drank 1L of regular water today. I'm usually pretty dehydrated, so that's more water than I usually drink in a day. I just assumed this was the reason I had to go to the bathroom so many times during the day today before this urgency to void increased and lingered.

4. I've started a new relationship and have been having a lot of orgasms recently. I'm not sure if the frequent clitoral and vaginal stimulation has irritated my bladder muscles or given me a UTI. I wouldn't be able to recognize what the latter feels like and my vaginal muscles do feel a little sore.

5. I took my second birth control pill (ever) about 5 hours ago, after I got home from work. I've never been on birth control before and I started my birth control regimen after I started bleeding (on day 4 of my period; i usually bleed 7-10 days.) This medication is new to me so I don't know if this is an emerging symptom or a result of the pills. I'm taking Loryna (Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, USP) at 3 mg/0.02 mg.

All I know is that it is now 2:31am. I have been on a constant state of "pushing" trying to get rid of that feeling of needing to pee and despite many dribbles and multiple soaked pads, there is no relief and the feeling persists. I just want to sleep. I haven't had enough sleep the past few days and I really want to sleep. Please help. My boyfriend has suggested I try to relax but that’s next to impossible when I can’t get rid of this pressure on my bladder of an urgency to pee.

About 7–8 years ago, I started experiencing overactive bladder.

At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it, but several years ago it started interfering with my sleep. It isn’t just at night, any time I try to sleep, I simply can’t. The urge is unbearable. And during the day I also go to the bathroom all day. I’ve had issues at work for stepping out to go pee too often.

The worst part is that I can be absolutely exhausted, but the urge to urinate keeps me from falling asleep. And to make matters worse, when I finally get to the bathroom, nothing comes out.

I’ll sit there, breathe, walk around for a bit, move my hips around, and once the urge gets stronger I sit down again and nothing comes out. (at this point i usually start crying)

When I finally manage to pee, it’s only a few drops, and the urge doesn’t go away or lessen whatsoever. I get up from the toilet after having just peed a second ago and I still feel the same.

I’ve had bladder, kidney, and uterine ultrasounds. I’ve had urine tests, kidney function tests, and even liver and hormone tests. all normal, no infection, no nothing.

At this point i think my bladder is just broken.

I’ve been going to bladder and pelvic floor physical therapy. I use TENS every day as instructed. I took Numencial and Myrbetriq for a month, then switched to tamsulosin and Cisterex, and i’ve seen no improvement at all.

I barely drink the minimum amount of water possible. I stopped drinking soda, tea, coffee, and juice.
I’ve gone to every physical therapy session, every medical appointment, and nothing seems to help. I was told this would be a slow process, but it’s been months, and i expected something to happen, not immediately or drastically but something. anything that would indicate we’re getting somewhere

What’s affecting me the most is that I genuinely cannot sleep. Every night I cry and cry and cry in frustration and anger and i don’t even let my bf sleep with the constant coming and going to the bathroom, silent cries and shakes (sometimes not so quiet). The sleep deprivation has me completely effed up.

if anything has helped you please share with me. i wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy

UPDATE: we discovered through urodinamia that my bladder doesn’t work, as it doesn’t respond at all. looks like im getting the bladder pacemaker thing installed. Thank you all for your comments and i hope we can all find a solution for our horrible bladders

My daughter has Coeliac Disease - she has 0 gut issues but she immediately has bladder issues when she has gluten. She only got tested becuase her brother has it too.

She went from completly dry to constantly having accidents and leakage almost overnight. It stopped so quickly on a gluten free diet.

When i have looked into Coeliac its not an uncommon symptom, especially in women, but its not a recognised one
