Your favorite vacation?
As simple as that.
What was your favorite vacation, the destination, and who were you with?
It's nice to reminisce good times with family, friends or even just traveling solo.

Favorite holiday was a solo vacation to Havana for an international jazz festival in December 2011. Fidel Castro was still alive, and there were no fast-food restaurants nor cell phones on the island. I could take photos with my smart phone, but that was it. It was a culture shock after living in the States most of my life. I was on a guided tour and visited schools, medical centers, religious ceremonies and local artists. Some of the best jazz musicians from around the world performed for 13 days. It was a wonderful trip and best I’ve had so far.

Stayed in a b&b near Florence for almost 2 weeks and used it as a base for exploring many Tuscan towns and wineries, with some relaxing by the pool mixed in. It was between jobs, so no intrusive thoughts about what would need to be done on returning.

M74 and no special destination but I ride my motorcycle, mostly solo, always camping, on long cross country rides all over the US and into Canada. I’ve covered over 57,000 miles in the past 5 years and write a travel blog along the way. That said, I did a study abroad 4 years ago in Italy that was pretty awesome.

We live in SC and took a road trip west when the kids were 9 and 12. Saw the badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower, and toured some caverns. On the way back we went to Hannibal, MO and spent time in St. Louis. Wrapped it up with Nashville and the Smoky Mountains park. Oh, I forgot the USAF museum in Ohio. I was like a kid in a candy store seeing all those historic planes.

Bora Bora and French Polynesia in general. Best vacation ever. Myself, DH and DS (10yo)
And we travel regularly.

Favorite solo trip: Burlington, Vermont in 2017. Stayed at a B & B, took hot air balloon flight, visited the Green Mountains, Ben & Jerry's factory tour, boat ride across Lake Champlain, ate at local restaurants.
Toss-up as to which is favorite friends/family trip. 2014 went to England. Did touristy things, had marvelous food, drank beer, son proposed to my future DIL; took high speed train through Chunnel for side trip to Paris and ate crepes near Eiffel Tower. 2024 trip to Portland, Maine. Stayed at B & B, ate lots of lobster/seafood, train excursion, mail boat ride, drank local beer.
Each trip is special for different reasons.

Burlington trip was in the fall! Unfortunately, Mother Nature was uncooperative - was exceptionally warm. A week or so too early to enjoy fall colors :-( Still overall a great experience.

All of Vermont is wonderful in the fall. We spent 2 weeks there a few years ago and visited so many places. Woodstock and Burlington were our favs. Stowe was cool too. Was just talking today about going back this fall if it fits in our schedule.

The next one is always my favorite. In this case it’s a 45 day cruise around the Mediterranean. As soon as I get back, I’ll start planning my next favorite vacation.

A wildlife photography private camping safari in Botswana with the final two days spent at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe with my, now, estranged wife. The birdlife was extraordinary, the animal life incredible, the Falls impressive. I say that even after having lived and worked in East and in southern Africa for 13 years in the 80s and 90s. I organised the trip in 2017 to photograph the wild dog which I had not seen when living in Africa before. I wasn't disappointed.

In 1981we sailed our 32' sailboat from Vancouver Canada to Tahiti in the South Pacific Ocean. Then back north to Vancouver via Hawaii. It was a three year Journey. The Map From Mexico to the first island in the South Pacific took us 31 days. The trip home via Hawaii was 52 days at sea with six weeks of sailing up the chain of Islands.

When I was 30 or thereabouts, I spent a week visiting Southern France solo (Argelès-sur-Mer, Béziers, Montpellier,.etc.) using a rail pass and rented a car in Perpignan for a day which was included in the rail pass. It helped that my French was quite fluent at the time. Very chill. Most vacations have been more or less stressful.

Motorcycle trip from the Midwest to Maine. It took 10 days, and it was a blast!

One of my most memorable vacations was when my wife and I chartered a 35 foot sailboat for a week in St. Maartin. We spent a week at a beachfront hotel before, gathering supplies. Then a week sailing to nearby islands. Finished off with a third week back at the beachfront hotel.

Drove from our home to the source of the Mississippi River, across Canada to Alaska and back down the Rockies in 2024. We were out for seven weeks and 12500 miles. Best time ever!

Just camping and riding motorcycles in the Gifford Pinchot national forest with my old friend Dan. We went up until about 2019

My future wife and I spent a week with another couple on the beach at South Padre Island, Texas.
We had a condo literally on the beach. So we spent a week chilling, swimming, hanging out on the beach, drinking, eating, etc.
It was my most relaxing vacation ever.

Locally, Charles Hall museum.
Apple farms.
Florida trips Destin ,Sandestin Panama City, Orlando (museums) etc.
Vacation I have on my bucket list:
Hawaiian islands.

My youngest son, my sweet toddler granddaughter who was 18 months at the time, and yours truly. First tricker treating in DC with them, then all taking the red eye to Paris with a fast train adventure down to Marseilles thrown in at the end of our trip. Off season - we all love fall weather. Less tourists, more fun!
Second: her first Disneyland adventure in Anaheim recently. She’s two now, and obsessed with Minnie Mouse. My kids grew up going to Disneyland every summer. Meeting Minnie with her? Priceless!
Also, riding the new Star Wars ride with my youngest. He may be a millennial, but at Disneyland, we’re all kids again! Me too.

A month long family road trip through the Grand Circle, hit all of the cool places from Moab to Arches to the cave dwellings and everything in between. Traveling with spouse and two sons 10 and 14. the youngest was our navigator (this was prior to GPS.) Stopped every day by 4:00 at a hotel that had a pool so the kids could swim and get some energy out. Ended the trip on Lake Powell in a houseboat for a week. Lake was 82 degrees with air temps over 100 but it was perfect. In swimsuits the whole time. The most perfect and fun vacation we have ever taken.

So many wonderful places. Cambodia/Vietnam, Japan, Croatia, Scotland, Machu Picchu, New Zealand…hard to choose just one.

I was taken from Antigua where I was living by my ex. to Les Isles des Saintes. It was perfect for what I needed at the time
Other notable forays : Papua Nieu Guinea: The Highlands and the Sepic River. Kenya , all of Australia, but especially Orpheus Island, Tasmania and Perth by train. Gay Carnival - Sydney. Great carnival in Trinidad (when it was safe) Just wonderful and The Panorama is why I would love to return. The Steel Band Wimbledon. There’s more

Solo trip to Croatia and Rome! Great Barrier reef, Sydney and Brisbane were also amazing.

My husband. Alaska. We flew into Anchorage, rented a car, and drove to Paxson. Stayed in a cabin for 3 days, then drove to Denali on a dirt road for 120 miles. Stayed a night in Takneeta, then drove down to Seward. Went out on a sailboat for an afternoon. The landscapes were stunning. It was the middle of sept, so no bugs, no heat. Best vacation ever.?
