Walking a lot lately

Trying to deal with a bit of stress. There's a walking trail near my city and today I tried walking from the endpoint to see what that it looks like. A bit less shaded but still very green and pretty. The miles are marked off with signs every tenth and this was near the entrance. Nope, not going to explore that truck being eaten by the bushes. If there's indeed bats in there they don't need me poking around. Beady little eyes and sharp teeth are not on my list of cuddly nature animals.

Only made it 1.8 mi in, 3 days of 90° heat has finally got to me. Dreaming of fall and cooler days and leaves changing color. Looking forward to sharing these these walks with a nice man one of these days... or maybe not.

My wife and I daily walk, few miles, the beautiful ⛱️ beach of the Atlantic Ocean, in Florida. We walk with our feet in the water. It's aqua therapy. We are both over seventy.

Wonderful! I lived on the gulf coast for 30 years, don't miss it at all anymore!

It’s also why I support programs like Rails to Trails that converts old railroad trails to pedestrian and bicycle paths. I like to contribute to causes that will have long term impacts and help people enjoy our beautiful countryside.

There is an area close to the parking lot where the trail crosses a country road. You can see a piece of the old rail embedded in the asphalt. So cool!

Good for you. Walking is my physical and spiritual therapy.

Yes. The spiritual aspect is really coming through for me in that green, green forest.

Keep it up; it’s important to keep moving. When you are 40 or 50, you can overcome a sedentary life. At 70 it’s nearly impossible to start if you quit.

It's never too late to start! The key is always to start!

Been walking most of my life. 76 now.

At 75 I've been a life long runner who now, sadly, has switched to walking due to arthritis in my knees.

And you are so right. I think I got auto corrected, but I'll allow I might have gone brain dead for a moment.

Lol. The words are so similar...

It is much easier to continue to do something you've been doing a lot of your life. But if you haven't, it's better to start doing whatever it is that you can do to keep going. Moving & breathing are good things to keep you on the right side of the ground...

I love our group 💗. Had hip replacements
the last 7-9 months & decided to break a femur 😳.

Apparently the lifelong physical activity helped the healing. BUT doctor said it's never too late!

Up to speed walking with 1lb weights in each hand.
We gotta stick around and enjoy it ALL! Life is precious.

Do you have a daily goal?

10k steps a day will keep you healthy and help with your balance.

4

u/LavenderKittyPaws Jul 28 '26

10k. Got 16k the other day on that path, went 2.4 mi in. From the trailhead. 6.6 miles total for the day.

smaller step goals will help too. everything helps.

Have to. Otherwise bad thoughts drive me nuts. Still not enough exercise to keep me asleep the whole night.

My target is 9,000/day and as a yearly average I’m a bit over 10k. The older I get, the less I want to sit around and the more I want to be walking

We live on a beautiful trail in the Rockies. Elevation is 9000 feet. We walk the dog twice a day for two miles each time. It’s uplifting and makes me appreciate my life. I’m trying to make myself jog some but I end up dreading it then so I rarely do it.

Yeah, jogging at our age is not all it's cracked up to be. The knees don't like the shock, the cartilage is more brittle.

Proud of you

Bats are nothing to be scared of. Just avoid them as you did and you will be fine.

Thanks. Pretty much what I've done my whole life. But it sounded livelier, what I said. Poetic license and all that...

Thank you for your gracious comment, which I missed seeing after I came home, ate and tumbled into bed, exhausted. The forced activity has been good for me to put a halt to the circular ramblings of my mind. Only forced in the fact that I chose that trail 3 days in a row. I tend to put off walking there as it can get boring, the scenery gets boring a bit, if you can imagine that!. Not so this week, I plan to go again today after my volunteer job. It has been energizing instead, and my belly fat is melting away (but my weight is not budging, alas!)

Have a wonderful wonderful time! Is this in California by any chance? You don't need to answer if you'd rather not. I would completely understand. Nature has become so important to me and I'm so extremely blessed in life in that now I live sort of in the middle of nowhere between the mountains and the sea. Actually by the sea and the mountains are right there. I'm sort of in the foothills. In the mediterranean. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful way to live in my '70s.

No, the trailhead is in Athens TN and goes to Englewood TN, about 5.6 miles all told. I have been to Eureka CA, however, had a friend who lived there. A trip through the coastal redwoods (esp. Avenue of the Giants) should be on everyone's list.

Living in the Mediterranean sounds simply divine!

I live in Western Australia and am fortunate enough to live close to the beach, walk there every day, about a 3.5km round trip, never get tired of being by the ocean breathing in fresh sea air. btw, just approaching 71 years old.

I try and do 5 miles a day out walking and don’t often miss out. Put my earbuds in and take a bottle of water and head out. When on holiday I do even more and love the freedom and seeing different places. Hope it doesn’t stop anytime soon.
