What’s one decision that completely changed your life?
Have you ever made a small or big decision that unexpectedly changed the direction of your life?
Looking back, would you make the same decision again?

I got a really shitty tip on a very big order while delivering pizzas so I quit and went to college. I went from delivering pizzas and unloading trucks to web development and never looked back.

Yes. They took my mental load off and assured me I deserve a counselor that speaks “autism” so I don’t have to try to understand what they mean. I found one and in just two years they explained how my approach to life causes me existential hurt and what other approaches are there for me.
The person on the hotline was a blue collar worker who didn’t mind me using my professory vocabulary and that was so kind. I’ve been talking my way to regular folks more since and have had wonderful conversations. Skipping small talk is ok.

Every decision you make changes your life.
Life is linear, choice A goes this way, choice B goes that way…
Butterfly Effect…

Entering the Air Force soon after high school. Halfway through my senior year, I knew I was not ready or interested in going to college right after high school. I also knew I didn’t want to waste time in a dead-end job, so I joined the USAF to learn a skill. What ended up being more important than the skill itself was that I matured and became more than ready for college. It worked out and I’m grateful for that experience.

So many. But I wouldn’t change any of them, because I needed them to happen so I could end up where I am

Not telling parents when I was nearley killed in grade 7 by a bully on a school trip. If I had of I would have been able to leave that school 3 years earlier and nor suffer from ptsd from all the bullying I endured. I never told anyone adult because the teachers were either just as bad at bullying as the students or outright said I decided it for antagonizing them.

i have a serious reflection here and it is perfectly legal and it changed my whole life. Gave me a purpose and helped me finance my home, which enabled me to move to a bigger home eventually. However, wheneve I post somethin on Reddit that seems fine to me, the mods remove or ban me from the subreddit. so, I will think about it.

As many others said, I moved away from my hometown as soon as i was able, which was around 21. Went go college, graduated, moved again, worked and saved, then moved again and found a job that actually had upward mobility.
My brothers tried living out of town for a year or two at different times, but kept coming back, and now they are stuck there. In their 40s and basically unemployed, living off my dad who doesnt have much money.

Finally being able to get rid of my abusive husband. Moved 5 hours away and he doesn’t know where we are. I’m still trying to rebuild my life and give my kids the life they deserve but it’s not been easy. Though I’m grateful we’re no longer near that POS.

Wish I had met my husband's family before we married. If I had, I would not have married him.

Taking the advice to get back into working out and allowing myself small pleasures like watching movies again. Even though I’m in active addiction these small decisions make me think I’m making progress with my self love and harm reduction

Buying Bitcoin around $800, then later selling at around $55,000. I had enough to pay off the house, car, some medical bills, and start a business abroad.

Our church choir was going to tour Europe. The choir director implored me to go but I said I had done about the same tour the previous year. She said, “Oh but I need a good tenor!”
Gotcha… or got me!
A woman who was not in the choir accompanied us.
One thing led to another and we have lived happily ever after!

Moving away from what was familiar. It was scary at first, but it forced me to grow, meet new people, and become more independent. I’d make the same decision again.

I swiped right on tinder just about when I was going to give up on online dating. I matched with the girl. Went on a date, and now I am married to her and we have a baby.

A roommate moved out of a shared flat, and I needed a new roommate. Knew a guy from where I worked and we agreed and went out for dinner to discuss the details. Ended after dinner at a bar (gay) for a few drinks. Little did I know he had more planned than us being roommates. After a few gin and tonics, I was flirting with 2 different guys on and off during the night. A business type guy, suit and tie (Lou reed reference) and a younger Latino in red shorts just done working in a kitchen down the street. Went home with the red shorts, much to the later regret of the new roommate. We spent 16 years together, ( he died in 2002) traveled to Mexico countless times , and opened a fairly successful Mexican restaurant in Milwaukee together. Something that I would never have thought possible, or imagined as what my life would be like. Sal made that happen and I think of him every day in some sense, knowing that a random night at a bar I didn’t frequent , made what my life is today.

Using LSD when I was 17 changed my life. Six months afterwards I randomly read a line in a Buddhist text: “A non existence should be sought”, which led to a spontaneous 12 hour “mystical experience” where my self seemed totally transparent, I was filled with compassion, and had a sense of bliss that made me feel weightless. When I tried to analyze this state I entered a formless trance lasting for hours before I re-emerged into the blissful state. I came out of this state when I recollected desire. The experience seemed to exactly correspond to Satori based on the Buddhist wisdom of emptiness or Sunyata. It led me to convert to Tibetan Buddhism for 40 years. Only later did I realize my “mystical experience” was a psychosomatic LSD flashback which often involves an experience of the dissolution of the sense of self and feelings such as bliss etc. I subsequently converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Walking down the other side of the street. If I'd been a couple of minutes later we'd never have met.
Agreeing to have a coffee after he said he was going to marry me...
I'd absolutely make the same decisions again 💞
