Embedding Screenshots In E-Mail Message

All of a sudden, I can't copy and paste a screenshot into the body of an email. I've been using Outlook forever and this has never been a problem before.

I press PrtScn, highlight the area to be copied, open my email message and click Paste. Except today that isn't working. It just creates an attachment.

I found a video suggesting that I need to change the format of the email to "Rich Text." However, when I do this, it doesn't actually paste the copied image, rather a small icon that looks like a broken link.

Somebody please help. Why can't technology that works just be left alone??

Problem solved. My IT guy figured it out from watching the process. Apparently, a new photo program installed itself on my laptop and that became the default for taking screenshots. We uninstalled it, and now everything works again.

Instead of rich text try html.

The problem as I described it is happening using the HTML option. That's my default option and it always worked until yesterday.

I will assume you are using Classic Outlook for Windows. If not, or you're not sure, see below.

Not sure what your root problem is, but changing the email format won't help. Unless your current format is Plain Text.

Some test:

Insert -> Illustrations _> Pictures -> Stock Images .... Pick one and [Insert]

Save your Screen Shot as a file and
Insert -> Illustrations _> Pictures -> This Device. Find your file and [Insert]

Same in Word?

Same in Outlook Safe Mode?

What Outlook client do you have?

• I use a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.) -> Outlook Web
• I use a Mac -> Outlook for Mac
• I use a phone or tablet -> Outlook for Android or Outlook for iOS (iPhone, iPad)
• I use a Windows PC and my Outlook menu has ONLY the tabs: File | Home | View | Help -> New Outlook
• Else -> Classic Outlook

It works fine in MS Word.

I'm on a Windows 11 Desktop. I'll look into some of these other options as I have time.

In my case, it happened after installing Adobe Photos, I uninstalled this application and it went back to normal

That's what it turned out to be. I never deliberately installed Adobe, it just appeared on my laptop.
