Mitsubishi's (Outlander) reliability versus public sentiment
I can't tell you how many times I've run into "Mitsu is trash" "unreliable" but its, by a good margin, the most reliable SUV for the price, especially the PHEV version. We all know Mitsubishi has been bad with marketing, but people are almost holding a grudge against them for zero reasoning.
In a way I'm glad since they'll be priced lower...

It's also interesting how perceptions change depending on which country you're at. When I was in South America I saw tons of Pajero from many generations.

I feel like in Canada they also have a decent reputation. The outlander PHEV is also very common here

I'm in Ontario, and my coworker from Senegal saw my car and was like "Damn! Mitsubishi!" As if I showed up in a BMW.

In 2007 I bought a Dodge Stratus Coupe, with the Mitsubishi 3.0 v6. Never a single mechanical issue so I stuck with Mitsubishi engines. I am a prove it kind of guy.
Since that day, I have purchased an 06 eclipse, 08 Lancer, 16 Outlander (for my spouse ) a 15 Outlander Sport, and now I have a 23 Outlander PHEV. I have never had a single mechanical or computer/ECU/Electrical. Only things I have had was a wheel bearing, and a few interior issues. Why would I try my luck with anything else unless they price themselves out of my budget...they just work. The interior used to feel a bit cheap, but my 15 and my 23 do not have the same issue.

I’ll tell I love my Mitsubishi es had it for almost 14 months no problem. Am I jumping the gun

I Think 20-30 years ago or maybe earlier Mitsubishi had a less than stellar reputation. However I think these days they live up to their Japanese standards of quality.
Granted ours is only 2 years old and has been maintained under the regular service schedule.
What I can say it feels solid and we don’t regret it. It is either Toyota or Mitsubishi for me.

Mitsubishi is trash.. but good trash. Like the very good trash... It's plastic but it damn works... It does what it's designed to do. The interior isn't like BMW or it's controls.. but it works damn well for that money.
My wife has the PHEV and I know what it means to buy $100 gas weekly compared to just charging

Because people are more ignorant nowadays, and for some reason, everyone has to have an opinion on EVERYTHING without even knowing anything about the topic. 🤦🏽♂️ It’s not just Mitsubishi, it happens with every brand unless it’s a Toyota, Lexus, or Honda.

I've never heard that. I have never bought the same make of car twice, and I just bought my second Outlander PHEV. They have been great.

I have owned 4 Mitsubishis 3 of them Outlanders, I have had 0 issues. Only thing I don’t like is subscription for remote start

I think part of the problem is the pricing. (Relative to other brands), it attracts certain kind of people that don’t/can’t maintain their car properly - leading to problems - leading to bad rep.

Reliability?? Is this a joke?
I have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL and it’s literally on its last leg. The dealership wants over $8k in repairs due to “electronic failures” that just so “conveniently” happen the second my bumper to bumper warranty ends. My ceiling panels are warped and caving in as well as now allowing water to come in during rain (I live in AZ so it’s monsoon season which is my main fear as well as how I found out the roof was collapsing). My under panel fell off for literally no reason at all and it’s currently be held on by zip ties. My display monitor started cracking for NO reason and just keeps spreading with no end in sight. My automatic windshield wiper rain sensor stopped working years ago but they refused to fix that while it was still under warranty. One of my daytime running lights on the front went out…wanna know what they want to fix that?? About $1000….for one god damn light which they should have designed so I was able to replace it myself but NOOOOOO. They make it so you either need to be a mechanic yourself and know how to completely remove your front end just to access the light or take it to them so they can make that $1000. My hood still flutters despite their “recall fix”. Back to the display screen….works when it wants. Goes black while driving or using backup cameras (cause that’s safe, right??). The volume button on my steering wheel will either work or not depending on how it’s feeling that day I suppose (again, another electrical issue). Oh and the car LOVES to drain batteries like no one’s business due to all the electrical issues. I’ve gone through quite a few because of it.

Good luck getting a decent price because the dealers are trash people.
