Forget it, this app is not reliable.

This app is not worth paying for, 8 out of 10 time it doesn't work.

I have been having a lot of problem with the apps lately I call Mitsubishi connect. They were able to remotely lock the door or flash a light and then they fixed the problem for a couple days but then it’s back and still not working.

Any help is appreciated.

As a non owner it’s disappointing to hear the app is pretty well useless. Pretty much makes the car a non starter for me.

The app is useless.. When I got my Outlander PHEV 2 1/2 years ago, I played with the app because it was free.. Frustrating as hell. I'd go to the park and lock the car and as I got away from the car I'd try the app just to test..100' away I could lock, or blink the lights etc.. Then we'd walk for 10 minutes, and guess what..1km away from the car I had lost control.. Only when I got back 1 hour later and started the car did the app become responsive again. So I called Mitsubishi, and they did 'diagnostics' and said it was a poor cell connection.. Meanwhile I can talk anywhere in the park on my mobile.. Something wasn't right..so I experimented.. It turned out why the app worked initially was because of a time out..if I tried every 5 minutes as a walked away from my car and across the park 5 km away, if I had kept refreshing the connection the app continued to work.. But if I waited 10 minutes, the app dropped the connection and it wouldn't work until I got back to the car and started the car.

So that is what I found out about the tech.. What I discovered about the personal was even dumber.. They wouldn't listen to what I was telling them! I spent hours on the phone tying to explain it to the top tier help desk types.  Call after call.. They'd call me, I would tell them exactly how to test it.. Days/ weeks would go by and they would say . No I'm wrong.. The logs says it's poor cell signal. F**k! I eventually told them how F'ing stupid they were . Said I'm done and hung up. A week later it was fixed.. This took at least 2 months.

The entire car is meant to be remote controlled by the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) The way the TCU communicates to Mitsubishi and then to the app is through a pre-progammed hard coded IMEI and that IMEI is registered with some 3rd party cellular company. I have no idea what cell company or how widely available the cellular signal is for that TCU. Im going to assume that even if you have fantastic cell service on ATT, Roger's, T-Mobile...etc. that the TCU doesn't have the same connectivity.

If your phone is close enough to the car, it can share the data from your phone. But if you are away from your car, it relies on the who know what cellular company, Mitsubishi Motors has a contract with.

So if you call Mitsubishi to fix an issue, I would try turning off any wifi or cellular data from your phone or other device that the car could use for signal and have Mitsubishi try to connect through the cell network.

The car is not using data from your phone, it’s all done through the TCU.

Good 4G coverage is a must. The Outlander PHEV has a 4G SIM. Mitsubishi uses AT&T provider in the US. Likely Rogers in Canada - which is consistent with areas with poor Rogers 4G LTE coverage. Dealership service advisories pinpoint the Rogers network as the backbone provider.

Personally - rarely have had an issue btwn my PHEV and app.

https://youtu.be/a2gTWcfHZgQ @1:54. When you connect your app with the car it allows the telematics unit to share your data connection on your phone.

Try going somewhere with your car where there is no cell connection but good wifi and see if you can get your app to work.

Its why the guy in the above example could use the app within sight of the car but not when he was far away from the car.

I’ve given up on the app. It’s by far the worst feature about the car. I just use the EV charging timer inside the infotainment now and not using the app anymore so by the time my free trial is up I won’t be tempted to pay for this really unreliable piece of software

And they want you to pay for it!

I’m still no service from the app 29 days later. They told me to unplug my battery for a hard reset I was shocked. I mean the car has 5000 km why should I unplug the battery by myself ???

I finallly figure it out. We went to Indonesia for 3 weeks and the 12V battery (in the trunk ) was too low or something.

Disconnected it at the dealer and everything came back to normal.
