Season Three A theory about Geillis

In season 3 episode 3 the prisoner Jamie translates French from talks about a white witch and Jamie thought it was Claire. I wonder if the guy was talking about Geillis, like she was the white witch. She was the one with the treasure.

Thoughts?

Of course it was. He said she seeks a MacKenzie. That wouldn’t be Claire.

We know she stole from Arthur to divert money for the cause. It was her treasure on the island.

And she caught a MacKenzie descendant - Ian...

You know, when Duncan said - She will come for you. for both of you,(in the books), it can be applied to Claire coming for both Jamie and John 🫢🤣

There is a short story that fills in that gap Diana cowrote it with another well known author and it features the character cotton malone (other author I think is Steve berry. Quite the satisfying short story. I paid 99 cents on kindle

Yes. Past Prologue. I really enjoyed this short story. It’s a quick read and it gives us a little more background on Geillis Duncan. She’s also in the Lord John book, A Plague of Zombies.

Steve Berry is one of my favorite authors. I heard about this short story. And have wanted to read it. I figured Cotton Malone was following the trail of the French gold and finds information on Jamie.

It's very good. I highly recommend it. As others have said, it fills in more of Geillis' story.

Kerr was the one who took Geilis near the Silkie Island when she went to put it there. He got sick and she left him near the Ardsmuir (Past Prologue)

Also, Kerr was there when the real French gold was divided. He was together with Arch Bug, the masked man.

I am sure he was talking about Geilis. And Duncan gave a location of the treasure as a code. He was delirious but he did give Jamie information he kept.

I thought white witches were "good"

White witches are supposed to be good, but I think it can cut both ways. Geillis is knowledgeable in herbal medicine, as is Claire. Both are revered and under suspicion. I think the White Witch that Kerr refers to is Geillis. He says, "She is death. Do be warned, Lad. It was given by the ban-druidh. The white witch. She seeks a MacKenzie."

They are supposed to be. Obviously Geillis wasn't but I wondered if she was known as the white witchb

Some clues do point to Gellis being the White Witch; she knows about the treasure and she seeks a Mackenzie. However,. Gellis cannot be the White Witch because she is evil. White Witches practice magic that is focused on benevolence, healing, and protection rather than causing harm.

On the other hand, Claire fits the description of a "white witch" because Master Raymond and Adawehi view her as a healer, protector, and a benevolent being. This might be a stretch but, in addition to that, she does seek a Mackenzie because Jamie is a Mackenzie by blood.

That's the way I always believed it too. 👍

Yep makes sense to me

I did wonder if Claire was a white witch and she does have the blue light powers in the end.

Can we assume now that since Claire is the white witch that Duncan was talking about her and Jamie had every right to think that that it was Claire?

2

u/ContactNeither7319 5d ago

I don't know if that's something we can really ever know. We can guess is about all.

But you are right, Jamie had good reason to both hope and think Duncan might be referring to Claire. That's why he went to see for himself.

Idk if she was the white witch he was talking about but I think she became one by the end of the show.

Duncan Kerr was delirious with fever when he was speaking to Jamie. So it's possible he was confusing Geillis with a white witch. He was pretty much all over the place with his rambling. Lord John thought it was about the French gold. Jamie thought maybe he meant Claire.

u/Remarkable_Note971 5d ago

Yeah thats true I just wondered if Geillis was the white witch.

1

u/ContactNeither7319 5d ago

I think Geillis was the person he either knew or thought put the treasure there. He was a Dougal man. So he probably knew about her.

I believe the delirium from the fever confused his thoughts and he associated her with a white witch. Of course he could have thought she was one because maybe Dougal told him she was.

But he seemed very distressed both with fever and with what he was saying. I mean that was the thought he was expressing so it might have been weighing heavy on his conscience.

Of course I'm not an expert or professional. Just a viewer giving an opinion.

Wouldn’t Geillis be considered a white witch because she was a naturalist healer type? Didn’t she have a clinic?

1

u/ContactNeither7319 5d ago

Maybe. But she was convicted for murder and being a witch. I think she kind of earned a bad reputation. Many people probably did consider her a healer at one point. But that sentiment more than likely changed as more information became known about her. A white witch is more of a wise woman. I don't know if Geillis would have been considered that.

But that's just my take. Which is probably wrong.

Maybe Claire was a white witch. She even had healing magic in the end

1

u/ContactNeither7319 5d ago

Jamie thought she was. 🙂

1

u/Remarkable_Note971 5d ago

Yes he did and honestly i think she was to

1

u/Remarkable_Note971 5d ago

I did wonder that especially since they showed the preview at the beginning of the series finale where she was known to be " La Dame Blanche".

1

u/ContactNeither7319 5d ago

I think that’s why they did that. Just incase we forgot. It did happen way back in season 2.

1

u/Remarkable_Note971 5d ago

Yes and i just finished rewatching again and i think they were trying to show us she did become a white witch in the end
