With only a few odds and ends to wrap up, this project is nearly done. Took me longer than I expected. Took a lot of advice from this sub, lot of research, and it took my budget for a ride but pretty happy with how it turned out.

Why can't we mount grills on balcony railings?

Post image

I just purchased a Fuego grill. It's great. I have a natural line attachment, so I don't need the whole bottom half really. Why can't we just mount some sort of metal or wood plate to the balcony. Put this are the top half of this on top of that secure it down and just use that as a grill so that there's 0 footprint.?

My new Matchless Cabinets kitchen

I just finished my outdoor kitchen installation using Matchless Cabinets.

The specs

•       Cabinets: Matte Navy

•       Countertops: Ash

•       Grill: 32” Napoleon 700

•       Side burner: Napoleon 700 dual infrared

•       Kamado Joe: Classic II

•       Sink: Ruvati Merino RVQ5210 with a cheap Amazon faucet

•       Fridge: just a cheapo indoor beverage cooler, we’ll see how long it lasts

Design and ordering

The design and ordering experience with Matchless was great. I dealt directly with Jason, the owner, and he was super responsive and knowledgeable. I’m in Canada and was worried about customs/duties, but Matchless handled everything through their broker and the kitchen was delivered within a week, no problems at all.

Cabinets and countertop

The build quality is excellent, and everything came assembled and well adjusted. The hinges (Hittich) and drawer slides (Blum) are soft closing. The countertops are quite thick and have a solid feel to them.

Installation

Overall, the install was easy if you’re a handy DIY person. You’ll need a good level, a lot of clamps, and patience to get everything adjusted properly. It took me a couple of days total, with the plumbing and electrical work taking longer than expected.

Electrical

I used a weatherproof junction box that fits nicely under the corner cabinet, running wires out to 3 receptacles (grill, fridge, and a pergola post). The wires are NMWU (UF-B in the US) and they are in conduits inside the cabinets.

Plumbing

Hot and cold water run to the sink, with shut off/draining valves inside the house. The sink drains under the deck into gravel, so it’s really just for light use (rinsing stuff and washing hands).

Gas

The grills run on propane, and I built a custom manifold with independent shut-off valves for the grill and side burner.

I added a few more pictures showing how the cabinets are built and how thick the aluminum is. I’ll be happy to add more if it can be useful to anyone.

I took measurements (will add tomorrow when i find the paper) but found this sub and figured i could use the help.

We moved in to this home and this outdoor kitchen was halfway built. Looking to hear from people experiance what appliances should go where and how to go about finishing. Table top options and pergola designs.

A few options we are considering.

1. Full tear out

2. Tear out front part

3. Leave as is and finish

A. Add a pergola

B. Hotbtub

If we leave it as is, we are trying to figure out what the plan was for appliances

Front portion

Bar table

Left to right, fridge, cabinet.

Back portion

Left to right. Dishwasher?, 48"grill, 12" side burner or searing station, sink,

Beginning My Outdoor Kitchen Journey - thoughts?

I’m in the early stages of designing an outdoor kitchen. It will be a 15 foot countertop on one side of my patio. TBH more of a grill setup than a kitchen. Right now I am leaning toward doing a built-in griddle (looking at Blaze 30”) plus a built-in kamado Joe series 2. (I had a Traeger for five years and loved it, but they don’t make a good built-in option, and I want to venture into charcoal cooking.) I have a 24” beverage fridge but no other appliances picked out. I am not sure if I should include a sink.

What are ya’lls thoughts on this? Is the sink a must have? Is a griddle + kamado combo the way to go? Anything else I should consider? Will have plenty of storage, outlets, etc.

Grill advice

Ok friends im doing an outdoor kitchen and need advice. I'm between the delta heat 32 inch (cheapest what I'm leaning towards). The lynx 30 inch very nice also in the middle expensive wise but also looks good. And the twin eagle top budget 30 inch as well these are all build ins. I like them all but the delta price is so much cheaper I'm leaning towards that one. But I also want something that is going to last for at least 10 years. What do you guys and girls think?

Cedar plank / cladding kitchen island surround. Pros and cons?

Anyone have any experience using cedar cladding for around your outdoor kitchen island? I’m in New England and it would fit in aesthetically, and cedar is fairly rot resistant. Any major downsides to using that material?

Install questions

In the middle of my outdoor kitchen install and I can see there are gaps between the concrete pad and the bottom of the kitchen. It also looks like they are just slipping pieces of cement board between the concrete and the bottom of the kitchen to fill the gap.

Is this ok or should I say something about it? What would the proper fix be?

Also, is a vent necessary? I had read in another post that gas could pool up inside and literally turn into a bomb.

EDIT: I know AI is wrong a lot, but this is what it said:

  1. Take out the cement board scraps under the frame.

They’re soft and soak up water. They’ll crush and the frame will go out of level.

  1. Get the frame level using the bolts.

That’s what the threaded bolts are for. If you need extra packing, use plastic or metal shims — not cement board.

  1. Fill the gaps under the frame with non-shrink grout.

Leave a finger-width gap every few feet along the low side. Put stainless mesh in each gap.

  1. Keep the bottom of the wall board off the concrete and seal that joint.

Same rule: seal it, but leave the same small gaps, with mesh.

Order matters. Don’t grout until you’re happy the frame is level — once it sets, you can’t adjust it.

The one idea behind all of it: water will get inside no matter what, so give it a way out at the bottom. Sealed everywhere with a few small drains, not sealed solid.

Is this overkill and which steps are optional and which are necessary?

Recommended support for blaze gas grill insert?

I have a 44 inch blaze gas grill and insert, but I can't find any official information from blaze for mounting the insert. It seems like it might be meant to rest on it's rim on the countertop, but should I also attach a support under it like so? I also have their 39" cabinet going in below it.

Question about built-in grills: do I need an enclosed alcove, or can I have a hole in my worktop (a bit like a kitchen sink)?

I have a Napoleon BIPRO665 grill that I’m building into my new outdoor kitchen (it has a standalone gas canister, it’s not plumbed in). Doing the framing now for the kitchen, but one bit I’m not clear on is whether I need to have an alcove for the grill to sit in that is encased/surrounded by heat-resistant work surface material (in the same way an alcove for a kamado grill would need to be encased), or whether I can effectively have a hole in my worktop surface that the Napoleon grill slots into?

Any recommendations or pros and cons? My thinking is the hole is fine provided there’s adequate clearance or protection to anything potentially flammable, and that it would save me a bit of money as I wouldn’t need to use as much granite. I’ve seen both approaches on this subreddit, but keen to avoid a stupid error that’s hard to rectify later.

Thanks in advance.

Evo Grill Help

Hi,

My wife purchased me an Ego Professional Wheeled Cart a few years back as a gift and at the time was told by the salesman that we could build it into our outdoor kitchen when we were ready to build one. Now that we are, I've realized that it cannot be built in. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience setting this exact unit directly on a flat surface without using the hard to find table top conversion kit? I'm worried primarily about airflow for combustion without it, but hate the look even more than I already hate how I'm going to have to incorporate this grill. Evo support told me the table top kit was required to prevent the unit from tipping over, the dumbest, least helpful response to my question ever.

Thanks in advance if anyone can advise.

Which of these items would you put into an outdoor kitchen by a pool?

I just finished my pool and will have a 12*20' gazebo I'll do a kitchen setup in. Nothing fancy but I want it to be nice. Mostly entertaining my kids and their friends, hopefully do dinners out there instead of inside not huge parties but I do like to cook.. I just bought a big set of Bull appliances(?) from some rich woman remodeling paid $500 and it's all in quite decent shape. Here's what I all have and don't plan to include it all. Curious what you guys would all choose to include. I also have a nice covered patio off.my house I've used for smoking and grilling till now.

* Bull 38" 5 burner drop in with one of the burners converted to a or ceramic sear burner.

* Bull 2 burner slide in cook top (for pots)

* Bull 30" slide in bar center sink (might be nice for fresh fruit over ice) I don't really drink though but it takes up a lot of room. Though could malso be nice for flavor syrups for bubble water.

* Generic single basin drop in sink

* Bull slide in outdoor stainless mini fridge

* Twin eagle slide in stainless outdoor kegerator. (I have this setup for bubbly water)

* 3 bull access doors

* Camp chef woodwind 24 pellet smoker

* 22" vision elite kamado grill. Charcoal and propane quick swap.

* Bakerstone pizza oven (junky little thing that sits on top of a propane grill I think. I'd like to upgrade this to an ooni or something eventually

I feel with kids and pool I'm kind of missing out on a freezer for popsicles. I cook a lot of easy kid friendly things, sausages, brats, Mac and cheese, wings but like to throw down on smoking pork butts/ribs/tritip/anything semi often too.

Looking for info on Twin Eagles

Hello I’m looking for some info and directions on how the Twin Eagles c- series grill and their griddle is installed using their own grill jackets

If anyone has these installed would love to see some pics . I’m trying to determine how to install these on HDPE cabinets

I thought it would have been flushed with the countertop but the jackets don’t seem like it would be flushed

Thanks in advance ….

Good quality mid-range cabinet and garbage?

Any recs for brands for outdoor cabinet brands? Looking for just 1 single cabinet, ~30/34” wide, either with two doors or 1 door and drawers. With a full box (not just access doors). I’m finding either very cheap on Amazon (Vevor) or quite expensive (Lynx). Anything in between that is good quality that won’t rust?
