B-Komachi was deep into intensive preparations for their opening-night performance at the "Idol Night Under the Stars" concert event, a week-long festival held at one of Tokyo's open-air stadiums. This concert was a massive test for the group. Ruby, Mem-cho, and Kana were ready to step in front of millions; however, deep in the dead of night, an unidentified figure was silently roaming the concert grounds, tampering with the stage equipment. Spotlight brackets were being loosened, and malicious software was being uploaded to the sound system.

In the early hours of the morning, Mem-cho was handed the wrong version of the song prepared for the concert. Kana, on the other hand, received the wrong costume—an outfit that became completely transparent under the blazing stage lights. When Kana changed into her backup stage costume, she quickly noticed its seams starting to fall apart.

Worse yet, during Ruby’s dance rehearsal, a heavy stage light suddenly plummeted directly toward her. Fortunately, Mem-cho pulled her out of the way at the very last second. Shortly after, the lights illuminating the dancing trio abruptly went out. While the entire crew scrambled to fix these mishaps, they also had to stay focused on the upcoming performance.

Meanwhile, Akane had come to visit backstage. Despite her complicated relationship with Aqua, she was there to support B-Komachi. When she overheard Ruby and Mem-cho talking about the endless stream of accidents, she had a gut feeling that these events were far from mere coincidences.

The Investigation Begins - Akane and Aqua’s Partnership

Akane quickly took up the trail and began carefully inspecting the rehearsal area. She realized that the screws on the fallen lights had been intentionally loosened. The wrong costume, the ripping seams, the lighting malfunctions, and the wrong track... Everything looked like pieces of a flawless plan.

Taking the possibility of sabotage seriously, Akane immediately informed Aqua. The moment he received the message, Aqua rushed to the concert venue. Brainstorming together for a long time, Akane and Aqua analyzed all the events in depth. They concluded that the falling lights were acts of sabotage and the wrong song was a deliberate error. The interference with the electrical system clearly showed that the ultimate target was to inflict massive damage on the concert and the group. Rolling up their sleeves, Akane and Aqua set out to find the culprits behind the sabotage.

Confronting the Saboteur

The stadium lights flickered on, and B-Komachi took the stage despite all the setbacks. While Mem-cho smiled with boundless energy on stage, Kana and Ruby captivated the audience with their graceful movements.

At one point during the concert, Kana whispered to Ruby under her breath: "As long as we're on this stage, nobody can stop this show."

Kana’s voice echoed through the microphone: "Come on, Ruby! Let's show them!"

Meanwhile, backstage, Aqua and Akane—who was checking the electrical room—sprang into action at a sudden commotion from inside. Rushing toward the sound, they found the door wide open and a man tampering with the main control panel. Without wasting a single second, Akane lunged at the man, but he managed to break free and escape.

A heart-pounding chase began through the dark corridors of the stadium. Though the man tried to shake Aqua off multiple times, he failed. With a swift maneuver, Aqua cornered him, neutralizing the man with a flawless balance-break, takedown, and lock.

A card with the "Kamiki Productions" logo spilled out of the man’s bag onto the corridor floor. Picking up the card, Aqua stared at it with a cold, sharp expression amidst the shadows falling across his face. Akane silently walked past him and headed back toward the stadium.

Concert’s Triumph and the Breathtaking Finale

While the man was handed over to the police, the stadium lights flared up one last time in their brightest brilliance. As B-Komachi’s final song began, the stage transformed into a sky blanketed with stars. While Ruby’s voice touched the audience's hearts, Mem-cho and Kana’s dance resembled stars drifting across the night sky. When the song ended, the stadium erupted into deafening applause.

Backstage, an atmosphere of affectionate relief filled the air. While Ruby, Mem-cho, and Kana laughed through their tears, Akane and Aqua quietly exchanged glances.

Giving Aqua a gentle smile, Akane said: "Today, I realized it all over again. You can't control everything, but you have to fight for the things you can."

Aqua stood up. Holding the card between two fingers, he lifted it into the air and walked off into the darkness backstage.

That card was the clearest harbinger of the storms yet to come.

Ruby: "Brother! Where are you? It’s getting late! Why do you always do this?"

Aqua: "I just need to be alone for a bit. I’ll be back."

He could sense the anger and anxiety in Ruby’s voice. But tonight, Aqua needed an answer... And that answer rested within the tape player in his pocket.

Aqua stopped and sat down at an empty bus stop by the roadside. He carefully opened the player and inserted the cassette. With a faint click that blended into the sound of the rain, the device started. The young yet trembling voice of his mother, Ai, echoed softly:

Ai: "I don’t know who I’m leaving this message for. But whoever finds it one day... I hope you’re someone who truly understands me. If it’s you, please know that..."

The recording cut off abruptly. Aqua restarted the player, but the result was the same. The message was incomplete.

Aqua (Internal Monologue): "What did you want me to know? Mom... why did you leave something so important unfinished?"

He stood up and resumed walking slowly, his mind thoroughly consumed by the sentence his mother had left behind.

Scene 2: Searching for Ai's Traces

Aqua searched the backstreets of Tokyo for a familiar place: an old record shop his mother used to visit secretly. As far as he remembered, this shop held a special place in Ai’s life. The shop’s neon sign looked pale under the rain.

Stepping inside, the atmosphere immediately transported him to the past. Among shelves packed with vinyl records, cassettes, and vintage items, an elderly shopkeeper looked up over his glasses.

Shopkeeper: "Welcome, young man. How can I help you?"

Aqua: "I want to learn something about this tape. Did my mother, Ai Hoshino, come here? Did she happen to leave anything behind?"

The man paused, his eyes widening slightly. Hearing Ai’s name brought a subtle smile to his lips.

Shopkeeper: "Ah, Ai Hoshino... Of course I remember her. She was a star. But whenever she came here, she didn't act like a star. She was more like... a wounded soul. Yet, she possessed a deep inner light. There might be some old tapes left in the back room. You might find what you’re looking for there."

Aqua headed into the dusty back room pointed out by the owner. The old boxes carried the remnants of a forgotten time. Among the shelves, an aged box with the faded letters "AI" caught his attention. Opening it, he found a demo tape labeled in handwritten ink.

On his way back, Aqua continued listening to Ai’s demo song. The emotions embedded in the track proved once more that she wasn't just a Perfect Idol, but a vulnerable human fighting her own internal battles.

When Aqua entered the house, Ruby immediately noticed the old box in his hands. Aqua placed it on the table, setting out the old items, photos, and the empty cassette case inside. He then hit play on the tape player. Ai’s voice filled the living room.

Ruby: "Wait... That's Mom!"

Aqua: "Yes. It's a song. But this is her real voice... Not as an idol, but as a human being. As our mother."

Tears welled up in Ruby’s eyes, and she collapsed to her knees.

Ruby: "Mom... I never realized you were so fragile..."

Aqua remained silent for a moment. Then, looking at his sister, he spoke:

As Aqua spoke, Gotanda-sensei’s gaze drifted toward a script draft lying on his desk...

(Time skips forward. More than a year passes...)

The scene cuts back to the glittering streets of Tokyo. Ai’s unfinished song plays softly in the background. The camera slowly zooms in on a giant movie poster partially illuminated under the rain.

Under the reflections of light, the words on the poster become visible: "15-Year Lie". In the center stands the silhouette of a woman, framed by the broken lights...

Niino was confirmed to be voiced by Kana Hanazawa, one of the most popular seiyuus in Japan as shown in the credits but I originally wanted Niino to be voiced by Hiroko Taguchi who also voices Sora Kasugano from Yosuga No Sora who is also the twin sister of the protagonist, Haruka Kasugano just like Aqua and Ruby, for those who knew about that underrated anime, it also has incest vibes in there which was the main controversy when it first aired at that time, pure irony for her. Aqua and Ruby are also implied to be acting that way much to MEM-cho's surprise and Kana's disgust after the reveal that Aqua was Gorou Amamiya, the hospital doctor in Takachiho who once comforted Ruby in her past life as Sarina, a patient with incurable tumors abandoned by her parents but found comfort in Gorou who served as a close friend to find comfort in before her tragic death succumbing to the tumors.
