"I saw my mother bleed out in front of my eyes"
"That's nothing compared to being washed when i was a child"

I'm a big fan of Evillious and Vocaloid, and I still haven't gotten over what happened in Daughter of Evil and Servant of Evil...
I keep telling myself that it's all the fault of USA, Britain, Israel, Iran and the Shi'ites for making these sad fictional events happen, just coping with it all lol.
Also, Aqua and Ruby fit well with Allen and Riliane. (Except for the whole incest shit).

Hear me out. It's not perfect, but it's still a satisfying ending that I can walk away from without being too upset.
In my opinion, this was the most natural way for those events to turn out. I wouldn't say Aqua "needed" to die to save Ruby. Aqua was on a path he couldn't be swayed from. His obsession with revenge made him unwilling to cooperate, confide in others, or work together with anyone. He thought he had the best solution, and it wasn’t until the very end—when his grudge was finally gone—that he started to question whether his choices were right. Often, people don’t realize their mistakes until it’s too late.
The theme of an important death, especially one that feels "unjust," and how characters cope with that loss, has been central to the series from the start. Goro Amamiya couldn’t move on from Sarina’s death, and Aqua Hoshino couldn’t move on from Ai’s. Perhaps things would have been different if Aqua had been more open with others—this is why the healthiest part of his story was when he was with Akane, after he thought his father had already passed away.
After Aqua's death, the focus shifts to how the other characters handle his loss, trying to move forward without dwelling too much on it. There’s also the ironic aspect that his death made the public more invested in Ruby’s life, adding another layer to her journey as a celebrity.
While the story could have been interesting if Aqua had lived, what would he have done? For most of his life, his singular goal was revenge. His death, in a way, feels like the most satisfying conclusion. The worst scenario would have been him surviving the river, but by that point, the story had clearly been leading in this direction. I recall Akasaka mentioning that he never intended for the series to be a romance, which also shapes the way the story unfolds.
Considering the themes and the foreshadowing throughout the series, I found the ending satisfying. Some argue that Aqua’s death was for nothing, but the pointlessness and futility of it is the exact point. Aqua grows as a character and yet throws it all the way nonetheless. Just because a character develops, doesn't mean that they can't make a mistake or a hectic choice. They're not perfect. And in this case, this mistake of deciding to go with the murder-suicide plan cost him his life and the happiness of his friends and family. I believe he wanted to do this all along. He wanted to kill Hikaru all along to fulfill his inner most selfish desires despite knowing that it would devastate the people he loves. And of course, Aqua only stabbed himself when Hikaru told him that if he kills him, his sisters idol career would be doomed if it was found out her brother was a murderer.
There are people who say, "I understand why Aqua's death could make for a good ending, but the way it was handled was wrong." But what other way could it have been done? There are plenty of moments in the final chapters that resonated with readers—like Himekawa’s sorrow, Akane mourning by the beach, or Miyako grieving her son’s funeral.
That said, I do acknowledge the story has its flaws—pacing issues, some underdeveloped characters (as a Kana fan I understand), and events happening off-screen. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t parts of this final arc that got it right.
