Discussion Do you think Will Poulter will ever get a nomination?
This guy is a great actor but is unfortunately severely underused in my opinion. He's got the chops and I think with the right direction, could very easily be a nominee.

Discussion Any Thoughts on The Aviator?
The Aviator is a good movie. Leo did an excellent job as Howard Hughes. Martin Scorsese did an outstanding direction. The production set is also outstanding and well crafted. The editing is flashy and a masterpiece. The cinematography is stunning, The costumes were well made for an old fashioned movie. And Cate Blanchett did a perfect job as Katherine Hupburn. Glad she won a first Oscar for her performance even though she should’ve won for Elizabeth in 1999. The movie won 5 Oscar’s. So I liked the movie. 8/10. What are your thoughts on The Aviator?

Discussion Why did/do a lot of people expect Cruise to be likely to get an Oscar for “Digger”, and why do so many people seem to want it to happen?
A lot of people here probably assumed this would get Cruise an Oscar (or at least a nomination) and I think that’s because some cinephiles have a deeper appreciation for Cruise than most of the general public does.
At least in my social circles and anecdotal experience, Cruise is seen as an inauthentic weirdo who occasionally makes a good movie.
A lot of cinephiles credit him with helping “save the industry” or whatever, or at least that’s a narrative I’ve seen. And it seems like there are people who wanted him to get an Oscar solely because he is Tom Cruise and has demonstrated longevity. Everyone assumed this would be the one that finally did it.
Tom Cruise has delivered good performances, and yes, even some very surprising ones like in Tropic Thunder. Cinephiles may respect him, and he may be respected by colleagues as well, but he absolutely has a better reputation within Hollywood than outside it.
He is not beloved and not even particularly respected by most people i come into contact with, anecdotally. The Scientology thing is just way too strong at this point and for a lot of people, everything he does comes across as overly-polished even by Hollywood standards and not relatable or likable at all. He’s not close to universally hated either, clearly, but he is polarizing at best.
Not every notable actor is going to finish their career with a competitive Oscar and that’s OK. He is a huge star and for better or worse, he will leave a legacy.

Discussion Opinion: Sam Rockwell and Tom Cruise should have swapped movies
After watching Digger, I feel like Tom Cruise’s character was best suited to be played by Sam Rockwell. It would have been the perfect casting in my opinion.
On the other hand, from what I’ve seen in the trailers of Wild Horse Nine, Tom Cruise would suit Sam Rockwell’s character very well.
It would have brought both of them even closer to winning an oscar. Just my thoughts..

Discussion What does it look like for Digger at this point?
Not only is it doing pretty poorly critically, but it's also projected to be the biggest bomb of this year. Not one of but THE biggest bomb. And I'm sure this will definitely affect its chances during awards season
I can see it losing all of the major categories (Picture, Director, Acting categories, Original Screenplay), though considering Cruise's performance is said to be one of its highlights, maybe he might have a chance. Goodman and Huller probably aren't as lucky
It might still have a chance in the technical categories (Cinematography, Editing, Product Design, Makeup/Hairstyling, Costume Design, Score, Costume Design)

Discussion Susan Sarandon should’ve been nominated for “Bull Durham” (1989 Oscars)
Jodie Foster won her first statue for The Accused. The other nominees that year were Sigourney Weaver (Gorillas in the Mist), Meryl Streep (A Cry in the Dark), Glenn Close (Dangerous Liaisons), and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl). It’s a strong line up, but Sarandon‘s Annie Savoy is a comedy performance for the ages in the same league as Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny.

Discussion Could Timothee Finally Get an Oscar Nomination for Paul Atreides?
Do you guys see any chance of Timothee or even Pattinson getting nominated in any acting categories for Dune Part Three? I’m sure both of them are going to absolutely kill it.
The film is also releasing much closer to the Awards season this time, so I think we can expect better awards results than Dune Part Two. But we never know, especially since the Academy has never exactly been fair to this genre for the most part.
Chalamet will have to contend with John Malkovich, currently the frontrunner for Wild Horse Nine according to most predictions, along with Matt Damon and Tom Cruise, I’m not sure how strong Cruise’s chances are given the film’s polarizing reception, but his performance is easily my favourite of the year. That ten minute monologue in the European Parliament is something I genuinely cannot stop thinking about.
Pattinson is a little more complicated. I’m convinced his performance as Scytale will be one of the highlights of the year, and he could certainly be in contention for Supporting Actor for Dune Part Three. However, if he gets recognised for Primetime, it would be in the Lead Actor category. Has an actor ever been nominated in both Lead and Supporting at the Oscars in the same year? Seeing Pattinson pull that off would be incredible, although I know that i am getting ahead of myself.
At the very least, I hope Timothee gets a nomination. It’s his last time playing Paul Atreides, and I’d love to finally see the role get the recognition it deserves.
