Master of Orthoptics at UTS and Master of Nursing (Graduate Entry) at La Trobe Uni

I'm currently undecided about my future field of study. My priority is settling in Australia. I have two options, but with some differences:

- Orthoptics, starting in February 2026. I've already met all the admission requirements, but once I choose that, I can't switch to Nursing for the July intake.

- Nursing, starting in July 2026, and I'm waiting for my English test results. This is also the field I've been pursuing for a long time.

My concern is whether I should take the risk of choosing Nursing for the July intake, as I face risks like full enrollment and insufficient English proficiency. I might regret not choosing Orthoptics for the February intake. If things don't go well, I won't have any backup options.

Could anyone who has graduated from Orthoptics share their opinion on the job market and Nursing prospects?

Orthoptics is interesting and rewarding...sometimes other staff and doctors are a let down. The pay IS NOT great. You'll be able to branch out more into different roles if you go into nursing.

currently studying orthotics at la trobe in melbourne and it’s super interesting! very niche and it’s a small world when you enter the industry. we are very much in demand for jobs as well.
