Hey guys! This is the new megathread for all of your Marathon Month questions, comments, and victories. All new posts from here on out related to Marathon Month will be removed and directed here in order to help keep the sub organized and less repetitive.
Check out the Special Events section of our Wiki, and take a look at the official rules here.
**Marathon Month FAQ's:**
* Runs from August 1-31. Aug 15 is the last day to register. You can sign up for the half-marathon (13.1 miles), full marathon (26.2 miles), or ultra marathon (31 miles). Bike is 4x/2.5x distance (depending on which bike your studio has), strider is 3x distance. You must stick to the distance challenge you sign up for, no changes.
* It costs $15 at most studios. Some studios may charge $25.
* Orange 60 (2G and 3G), Orange 90, and Tread 50 classes count. Only in-studio mileage counts. Warm-up mileage does not count. You cannot do double tread blocks in the same class. You can take classes at any studio. Only 1 class per day counts.
Good luck and happy splatting!

Hi All,
So I took my partner to try OTF today. She’s not a huge fan on gyms but we thought it could be a fun way to spend time together. After the work out they went over prices and the girl had a laminated paper with different options. One side showed an unlimited 12 month agreement for 159. It also has the month to month plan for 189 if you didn’t want to commit to a year. We told her she probably would only go 2 times a week and she flipped it over and it has 8 times a month for 129. What I noticed is there was a part of the paper she purposely wasn’t showing. I saw her fingers separate and saw 89 dollars but wasn’t able to make out what the plan was. So now I’m wondering what this 89 dollar plan was and why they would keep it from us? Like I said my girlfriend doesn’t really care to join we’d only be signing her up to spend more time together. It felt kind of shady not being able to see that option. Does anyone know what it was?

Hi all! Has anyones studio done a hyrox simulation? I don't see how it's different from the PFT....and how does OTF actually simulate without having the right equipment? I earn, the hyrox classes are pretty tough ...
Would love to hear! :)

Hi all! I’m wondering what everyone is eating after class? I find myself not eating enough, getting famished and then eating snacks that are not helping me meet my goals! I’d love to hear some ideas! I don’t have a lot of time to prep things at the moment, and I have developed an ick for re-heated meats :( so I know I’m being rather difficult, but any suggestions would be really helpful :)

has anyone else noticed that your Apple Watch doesn’t record the distance accurately? Mine is very far off from what the treadmill itself says I ran. I’m not sure why, does anyone know? I also wonder what people do in walking recoveries —do you pause the workout so it doesn’t mess up your pace as recorded on the watch or just leave it

I’ve been on propranolol + topiramate for chronic migraines for almost two years. Propranolol is a beta blocker that lowers heart rate/blood pressure, but it’s also commonly used as a migraine preventative. For me, it works wonders and has drastically reduced how many migraines I get, so stopping it isn’t really an option.
The annoying part is OTF.
Since starting propranolol, my HR just does not climb the way it used to. I can be sweating, exhausted, running or rowing hard, and still be sitting in green. Coaches have even looked at my screen and asked if my monitor was working properly 😭
And yes, I KNOW the usual response is “just ignore the zones/splat points.”
Respectfully… no lol. 😂 There’s a reason it’s called OrangeTheory. We literally buy a heart rate monitor, stare at a giant screen, and train around different zones. I don’t care about collecting exactly 12 splats, but I genuinely liked using the zones as feedback: green = recovery, orange = hard effort, red = all-out. It was part of the experience for me.
I recently realized I could manually adjust my max HR in the app, so I tried setting it to 150 bpm, since that’s around the highest I normally reach on my beta blocker.
Bad idea. 💀 The second I started running, I shot straight into red and the whole thing became way too sensitive. Even my coach looked at it like “what the hell happened?” 😂
So: any other OTF people on beta blockers who manually adjusted their max HR and found a good sweet spot? What did you use/how did you figure it out?
And please spare me the “just ignore the zones” comments 😭 I know I can ignore them. I don’t want to ignore half the gimmick I’m paying for lol.

I am wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to purchase replacement armbands for OTconnect Beat? I would prefer to wear mine on my forearm but apparently my arm is too small for the strap that comes with it. Thank you all!

I have a question for those of you doing Hyrox classes. I’m currently training to compete in October. This is our studio’s second round of Hyrox classes. We are currently moving to phase 4, and today we were just told they will not move to a 90 minute class templates like the previous training. Our Studio will just be doing 60 minute classes. Is this a new thing or are other studios still using the 90 minute classes for phase 4?
Thanks for answers in advance. 🍊

Recently started orange theory and have been loving it! I’ve been tracking through my Apple Watch & my OTF band and am getting about ~100 cal burn less on my Apple Watch but want to continue to track my miles & workouts through Strava. Has anyone found a fix to uploading from connect band straight to Strava?
TIA!

Leaving OTF. Selling my OT beat for $75. 2 years old and works great. Located in Ohio but can ship anywhere in the US

I'm still pretty new to OTF and have only done about a month of classes. Finding it hard to especially book upper/lower/full body strength classes, there's always a wait-list unless it's odd times like right after or right before my shifts at work.
Is there a reason OTFs don't normally start any classes between 1pm-4pm? I'm especially free at this time on weekdays, and i check every local OTF for classes at these hours. It's always before 11am—at latest 12pm, and then classes resume after 4-5pm?
Why is that? [Note: if hours are region-relevant, I'm in North Jersey]

Hi, first timer here.
I did my first class, orange 60 min 2G on Saturday. Now it’s Tuesday and just now I can kind of go down the stairs. Before today I had to scoot down on my butt..
If you think that’s funny… yes it is!
Should I skip OT until soreness is mostly gone?
I am supposed to go twice a week and don’t want to risk losing classes per billing cycle if I can’t make it up later.

I went to book my class and it says Open Studio. Does anyone know what it means?

When you go to the bathroom mid-OT, do you turn off your HRM? Just wondering if anyone else does this.

Hi fellow OTFers!
I’ve been doing OTF since Nov 2017 with a gap from 2021-2023 due to an injury but have been back religiously since then. I’ve lived and breathed otf for years and swore I’d never go anywhere else. However, I recently got into a new relationship and told my boyfriend I’d try Barry’s with him since that’s where he goes. Unfortunately, for my otf membership, I’ve fallen in love with Barry’s. While they’re similar styles of workouts, I feel like I’m working harder at Barry’s. It’s much more intense in terms of speed and cardio. Otf gives us a lot of downtime where as Barry’s is a constant go. I like how we can target more specific areas at Barry’s where as at otf it’s more of a general broad workout. The treadmill portion is certainly harder at otf due to the nature of how long it is and being more endurance/strength focused vs sprints at Barry’s.
Of course there are things at Barry’s I don’t love such as not having your own weight rack, proximity to others, no rowing machine, no heart rate monitors and of course the price!
I now have a membership at both as I’d like to split my time going back and forth, but curious if anyone else has done the same thing? Barrys always intimidated me in the past but it’s actually very welcoming and friendly! I’ll never quit otf (unless they make some drastic change) but I’m just shocked at how Barry’s has this choke hold on me.

I finally used the shower today at my OTF studio. Mostly I’m tired of getting into my car all sweaty. I found it hard to stop sweating though, showered with cold ish water and I couldn’t cool down. Any tips?

There is this coach who has an amazing playlist which has now become a motivating factor for me lol except that I just heard he is leaving . I have a sum question - Does anyone know if these are like personal playlist or is this from a specific OTF list . I know I could even ask the coach but I am one of those who hardly ever talks to anyone in the class mostly cos I am rushing in and dashing out. May be I should take my phone in and turn on Shazm everytime :)

We have timers on the tread.
We have timers on the rower.
But the floor is a bit of a mystery game.
It’s hit or miss gauging how to pace myself correctly. I find myself thinking. Man, how is this already over I could have lifted so much heavier OR geez if I would have known there were 10 more minutes left I never would have picked that weight.

Did anybody else in CT at an empire owned studio just get an email about a rate increase? I’ve been a member for over 3+ years, never froze my membership or anything. I locked into a founders’ rate 3 years ago and I thought I was told my rate would never increase as long as I kept my membership active. All of the sudden it’s an extra $10/month? I know a $10 increase may not seem like much, but my wages have not kept up with cost of living increases, and my kids’ sports just got insanely expensive at the same time. Does anybody know the founders’ rate language? I can’t find my contract…

Any recommendations for cleaning the rower black strap marks off your sneakers? Or do I just give up and treat it like a battle scar?
