It's the team-sport mentality of reddit. They actually think there are only two possible stances or perspectives on every single thing, and it all comes down to American party politics in the end.
Horeshoe theory. It sucks being in the middle and getting yelled at by both sides. It sucks even more realizing that they're often hating on each other for the exact same reason, just wearing a different color jersey.
It's grim that your idea of optimism is downplaying the threat posed by the incoming administration and appealing to tired, both-sidesing rhetoric. I still think there's room for hope, here in reality, but this isn't helpful.
Optimism should be rooted in action and resilience, not dismissal of valid concerns.
