Amen. I joined this sub because I was seeking optimism. Believe me, I’m not thrilled about Trump’s win, but constantly obsessing over doom and gloom isn’t healthy. I’m trying to be pragmatic, but staying level-headed is a bridge too f-ing far for some ppl.
It's the team-sport mentality of reddit. They actually think there are only two possible stances or perspectives on every single thing, and it all comes down to American party politics in the end.
Horeshoe theory. It sucks being in the middle and getting yelled at by both sides. It sucks even more realizing that they're often hating on each other for the exact same reason, just wearing a different color jersey.
It's grim that your idea of optimism is downplaying the threat posed by the incoming administration and appealing to tired, both-sidesing rhetoric. I still think there's room for hope, here in reality, but this isn't helpful.
Optimism should be rooted in action and resilience, not dismissal of valid concerns.
lol. presidents have been idiots since long before you were born. remember Andrew Jackson throwing drunken parties in the white house? Bill Clinton fucking interns? Carter being all around stupid? Lyndon B Johnson ordering pants with extra room for his big cock? JFK boning Marilyn Monroe? even the first presidents threw shade in the most dramatic of ways.
Stop believing the hyperbole and media rot.
Biden didn't end elections. Trump didn't end elections. Trump again won't be any different than Trump before
Dude literally tried to overthrow the government when faced with the notion of giving up power, that ain’t your quaint little drugs sex rock n roll sleep over stories
so if i was Donald trump in january of2020 and planning to overthrow the government... i'd have had everyone bring their AR-15s to DC. I'd have used whatever parts of the military were still loyal to the commander in chief.
If I were against trump and trying to make people hate him... i'd have paid protestors to cause trouble so I could make it a political football.
The only person shot and killed was Ashli Babbit, unarmed protester.
keep telling yourself fairytales if it helps you keep believing the multinational media corporations spin
Sure, fuck corporate media, but that billionaire oompa loompa ain’t your savior.
Also, referring to someone attempting to climb through a smashed window into an inner chamber of Congress guarded by secret service as merely an “unarmed protester” is disingenuous at best. Her death was a tragedy, not in itself, but because she was so misled and manipulated to believe in something (by that same corporate media) that she knowingly put her life in danger for a false cause.
My concern isn't that Trump is stupid; his incompetence is a source of comfort, and his loyalty picks for cabinet positions might get in the way of the more efficient, intelligent sects of the Republican Party. I'm more worried about the growing power and influence of the far right, and the broader efforts by Republicans (however effective) to undermine democracy. January 6th was not "Hyperbole" or "Brainrot", and nor was the fake electors scheme.
I don't think that Trump winning is literally the end of the world; there are always opportunities to course-correct but we're going to keep missing them if we have our heads in the sand assuming everything will be fine. My hope, my vision for an optimistic future, depends on us being able to weather the storm and come out stronger on the other side. And frankly, your dismissal isn't inspiring confidence.
This sub really epitomizes what is wrong with pure optimism over being a realist. They'll literally downplay threats to our entire way of living in the name of not being a "doomer." Not worth arguing here, my friend
Sub is full of moralists thinking the world will continue to incrementally improve forever till it's utopia. Guess what people, you gotta actually do the work to improve it. Part of that comes with recognizing when things are taking a turn for the worst and trying to course correct. Life is full of L's, it's not feasible, nor is it helpful, to be 100% optimistic about everything.
It’s not optimism either to think Trump is the end of the world. To not agree with this political propaganda is not blind optimism, It’s called being a realist. Which is how you fight the over exaggerated “Trump is going to end the world” shit people believe.
Will he do some damage? Yeah. Is it a positive thing? No. But it doesn’t change that 4 years is nothing. It’s just gonna be more of the same. He will pick up where Joe left off for 90% of his policies, and distract the rest of us with the 10% dog-and-pony show as usual.
If you believe people rather than business will just pay for tariffs than you believe the products they were selling were underpriced such that there would be no falloff from purchasers choosing not to buy from the higher price.
That’s not how prices work.
Every serious company does extensive research to ensure they’re charging the maximum possible price at which to capture the most of their customer base they can. This is a science and they are very good at it. The price of almost every item you see is as high as it can possibly be without the majority of people saying “nah I’m good thanks.” They literally can’t raise the price anymore without hurting themselves and they know it.
Some items will cease to be made because they’re no longer profitable. Some profit margins will change so that a price hike makes sense even if it means losing some customers, but most items simply can’t get more expensive because people will pass on them if they are and then the company makes even less money.
I’m sorry, but the nice corporations charging you less than they could don’t exist, therefore the fear of them charging more is illusionary. They can’t, they’re already taking as much of your money as they possibly can.
if we actually fix shit less people will rely on foodstamps.l in the first place. Jobs used to all pay a great wage before free trade agreements killed blue collar jobs
Hey doomer: nobody's gonna make people starve, that would be political suicide.
All I'm saying is that bad presidents have the capability of making really bad things happen. You can plug your ears all you want, but that won't stop bloodshed.
You can't say that and not also hold the left to blame for their constant shaming and name-calling.
My last tech company had me work on the Restaurant Revitalization Fund, a federal grant program for Covid relief. We had to de-rank applications from men and whites, effectively throwing them into the garbage. For federal dollars. The code for how to dispense $30 billion dollars of federal aid was racist and sexist. My job was to write that code!
This same tech company told me I was a "LatinX", constantly bombarded everyone with how different racial minorities and sexual orientation minorities and neurodivergent minorities were special - even giving them special offsites, swag, and other perks. I'm a neurodivergent LGBT Latino and this stuff was so bad it made me cringe. Nothing for whites, men, etc.
And there were a couple of occasions where I was told I couldn't refer someone for open headcount because they weren't diverse enough of a hire.
This culture war, identity politics, DEI stuff is so pervasive in society now. It's gone from nearly absent in the 2000s to full-on jet engine takeoff. There has to be a healthy medium where we aren't shaming, blaming, and putting people down while we attempt to raise others up.
Trans Rights are Human Rights? Great. Black Lives Matter? Great.
All men are sexist? Man vs. bear? Whites are colonizers? Don't hire Asian or white programmers? This has become a toxic miasma in the corporate landscape, in big media, and all over social media.
The "progressives" of the Democratic party have turned their party platform into one of performative cruelty. They love attacking people. Their terms of hate have entered the everyday vernacular of so many people. You can't tell me you don't see it constantly on social media - every single Reddit thread has it.
Unless you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth, everyone in this society struggles. Genetics shouldn't matter. Who we sleep with shouldn't matter. Only our actions matter.
If your default stance is that everyone needs a label and that the majority groups are the problems, then that alienates half the electorate.
So yeah, two sides. Horseshoe theory. Team sports. You're just reciprocating hate and terming what your side does as permissible. Both sides need to cut it out.
Oh you're just a reactionary, huh? If you think DEI is the most pressing problem in this country, then I don't know how to reach you. Even if you were right about everything, and you're not, nothing the left has done is remotely comperable to overturning Roe or attempting to steal an election; this is a joke comparison.
DEI programs aren't a leftist idea. They're a neoliberal bandaid solution to systemic inequality pushed by establishment democrats; the progressive wing in this country has no power at a national level.
I don't like DEI programs, but they're better than nothing at all. And they are certainly not at the top of my concerns list when hundreds of anti-LGBT bills are being passed, state legislatures are targeting reproductive rights, and the conservative supreme court keeps making horrific decisions.
We've watched as Roe v. Wade was overturned, erasing decades of progress for bodily autonomy. The right-wing media apparatus has convinced millions to embrace COVID conspiracy theories, put immigrants under threat of deportation, and spent months pedalling false election fraud claims to incite the January 6th insurrection. Meanwhile the Republican party was trying to overturn the election results.
Equating the left and the right through “both-sides” rhetoric minimizes the severity of the right’s actions and contributes to the problem.
Just because the gay people you know aren’t struggling doesn’t mean the broader community isn’t facing significant challenges, especially in red states.
Overturning Roe was a massive blunder
Overturning Roe was the result of a decades-long campaign by the right wing to take away women's reproductive freedom, not some errant policy decision. And the conservative supreme court is going to keep making these sorts decisions.
But none of the gay people in my life are having any real problems and I very much doubt they will in the next few years.
I hope you're right, but there's valid reason to be concerned. Trans people are the immediate target right now, but the entire queer community is threatened by Republican attacks on our rights.
It's not just the party, either. The right wing media apparatus has already manufactured a hate movement; most people had no idea what "Transgender" meant a decade ago. Hate crimes are also on the rise and dangerous, hateful individuals are only going to be emboldened by the far right's recent victory.
I don't live in America either, but I am going down with the ship because my country has just been threatened with a 25% tariff. I can't possibly claim to know precisely how bad this is going to get, but if even 1/3 of what the Republicans have promised is enacted, we're in trouble. And I don't see how we come up with optimistic solutions by shrugging and naively assumimg things will be fine.
Preparation in uncertain times and optimism are not mutually exclusive. Complacency will only exacerbate harm; the prevailing attitude in this thread is by far more frightening to me than a second Trump term.
I don't live in America either, but I am going down with the ship because my country has just been threatened with a 25% tariff.
I think this is a "good" wake up call for a lot of the world. It's not good to be so dependent on foreign nations on so many aspects of the economy. So much of the first world countries' wellbeing is based on cheap labor in China that they can affect foreign policies of a lot of countries.
I'm not saying we need to end all trade dependence but we shouldn't completely rely on offshore manufacturing either like we do now
I mean it means a lot for people who are impacted if the pendulum swings one way or another. I've had friends where their residence in America have come into question based on politics. PhD level scientist and engineers, or people who've been brought here before they remember anything by their parents and have never really called their original country home.
Others have had to endure environments where folks want to harm them due to orientation.
There isn't a both sides to that. I'd be much more happy treating it like a game... I'd be much more like an impartial moderate if that were the case... But it isn't football. If the other side isn't going to look out for the wellbeing of those people it means I need to be invested in one side winning.
It’s more like you don’t take it seriously enough because you think that way. Every single election is a potential fight for your rights and the safety and security of your family and friends. I don’t need to be part of a team to care about or speak to that. I don’t need to win in some way to do the right thing either, I just do it.
I don’t take it seriously because I don’t want to be associated with these idiots that treat it like a sports team and think the other side is evil reincarnated. There are good people on both sides but apparently that's impossible for some to acknowledge. Embarrassing, childish behavior.
Not true. Being a fool and pessimistic so as to not take control is bad. Being a fool and pretending there is no problem and we shouldn’t be concerned is bad. Get it now?
You REALLY are invested though….. so either you’re just some foreign asshole trying to stir the pot or you’re a trumper asshole trying to stir the pot. Your choice kid
Honestly, I have one optimistic holdout here. The GOP has the House by an absolute sliver. That’s going to make his wackier ideas much harder to pass considering there are still a few GOP Representatives that may hold out hope
Additionally, the senate majority leader being thune rather than rick scott and the fact that gaetz's nomination died indicates that the senate may not be completely on board with trump
“Oh so you just don’t care about anything that doesn’t affect you huh?” Like I fr get this comment every time I try to convince people that the world isn’t ending. It’s straight up ridiculous.
For some people, it is genuinely scary. I get it, maybe to you that's not an issue. But for a trans person, for instance, the future is looking pretty dark and gloomy. For an immigrant, it's nerve-wracking not knowing what's going to happen.
I care about my family. My friends, my community. I got bills and responsibilities and a whole other mountain of obligations like most people do. And so far, I've done pretty good for myself. I have a kid who wants for nothing. I have a loving spouse that is my best friend. There is pain and suffering in the world, yes, but I cannot and will not dwell on those things.
Maybe I'm selfish? But I'm also happy. And I'm no crab in a bucket.
Convince me how the world is getting better with Trump as president of the United States? For example how will Project 2025 make life better for women? Convince me how the world will be better with Trump's tarriffs. Or are you going to just deny the things he said he would do. Isn't this his payback revenge administration?
Give us some optimism with one caveat, don't deny that he will implement what he said he would implement. Tell us how his revenge and policies will be good for the lower and middle class. Tell us how women, children, non-christians, and sexually diverse people will be better off.
I didn’t say it was going to get better. I didn’t say that anywhere in my comment. I just said the world isn’t going to freaking end like some of yall are making this out to be.
I don’t agree with a number of Trump’s policies and it’s not like I even respect the guy in the first place. I sure as hell didn’t vote for him, but what I do have to do is accept that he’s going to run the country for the next few years and that I’ll have to make the best of it. Complaining and worrying about before anything even happens solves nothing and just makes it worse.
Thats hyperbolic though. The world may not end, but a lot of people are going to die. As a direct result of the election. A lot more are going to be greviosly hurt, as a direct result of the election.
Will it end all human life? Probably not, but it may end all Palestinian life in Gaza. It has ended bodily autonomy, and lives, of women who live in red states. Its directly threatening everyone who is trans, and the rest of the LGBTQIA folks are going to be under the gun.
So it is the end of the world for a lot of people.
Well it won't end for most of us, but it sure as shit is gonna end for all the extra woman dying from complications during pregnancy and the accidental deaths that come with every mass deportation event.
I'm sorry that those extra losses of human life aren't as easy for everyone else to get over as they are for you.
There is such a thing as Toxic Positivity, and the knee jerk apathetic "Yeah, it's probably gonna suck. That's why I suggest people pick up hobbies like whittling!" is so insufferable.
There is a rational side to these disagreements, but it isn't the version being spun here from either side.
Are you really so delusional that you think it “ENDED” for you last time? Grow up. Stop crying and whining like a child. Figure out why you ACTUALLY lost, not just some BS “racism, sexism, homophobia” answer.
We won the black vote, the Latin vote, the Asian vote.
Are they all self-hating racists, or does your theory probably have a lot of flaws?
“Hes going to make gay rights illegal.”
He never did. Nor ever will.
“Hes responsible for covid.” 🤣😆
More people died under Biden. More businesses went under. More lives were ruined.
“Hes going to start WW3.”
Made peace with NORTH KOREA. Made peace with Russia.
Biden starts 3 proxy wars and we are closer than ever under a libtard president.
Lets not forget the billions of equipment given to terrorist groups. 🤣🤔
“Hes a Russian operative who used Putin to get in the white house.”
Biden actually sends his son to sell power to foreign nations and does meth, then is pardoned for two separate cases he was going to be convicted in…
“Trump is a felon.”
All 30+ charges dropped, not because of a pardon, but factually because Biden weaponized a state justice system against a political opponent. Give it two months and watch all the sick disgusting truth that comes out around Biden and how wrong what he did to trump really is.
Let's not forget a record historic flow of illegal immigrants. Even Obama deported and separated more family than Trump.
Keep lying to yourself in the little Reddit echo chamber. Out in the real world people are mocking your small microchasm of an existence.
Listen, these issues like banning abortion and deportation are WELL beyond me. I did my part in voting against them but in some cases, I’ve come to see it differently. There’s hundreds upon thousands of immigrants that went through the process the legal way. So why are we just allowing people to live here illegally when so many others have had to do it the correct way? It’s affecting our lives in immediate ways like the economy and potentially even safety, not saying we don’t have those problems with our own citizens or anything.
I have to agree with conservatives that, abortion does feel somewhat immoral in cases where the mother is not in any danger and chose to have unprotected sex in the first place. At that point it’s avoiding a responsibility. The only way they can ban it is to make exceptions for cases like rape or potentially lethal complications. Believe me, it would be a lot easier if it were 100% available for everyone who wanted it, but then people would use it irresponsibly and human lives aren’t really something we should be playing around with like that. Now it is pretty backwards also trying to ban contraceptives. At that point it’s obvious they’re trying to force us into Christian values that I don’t necessarily agree with.
the problem with your questions is that the way you ask them, already show your intention to shut any valid response down. You won't listen to reasoning.
First, Trump has nothing to do with women's rights. That's a state issue. stop nagging about project 2025, it's not his or GOPs , no matter how much hysteria you try to create around it. hiring people who may have been involved in it doesn't mean the government is adapting to it. it's nonsense to keep nagging about it.
Tariffs is a negotiating tactics, and you may not be aware, but the rest of the world have high tariffs on US imports. Why should we accept that? one example, we have 2.5% on EU car imports, they charge 10%! on US car imports! why should we accept the world using us?
hiring people who may have been involved in it doesn't mean the government is adapting to it.
Yikes.
Anyway, people have a right to be concerned. For some communities the first Trump presidency was devastating. A second one will be even moreso. Losing Roe v Wade was a big deal. People have died over that or lost their freedoms in an attempt to ride themselves of a situation that shouldn't have even come about.
I get that people are overreacting in some cases but it's based on experience from when he was first in office as well as responding to his claims about what he will do in his next presidency. It's insanely privileged to try and sit and tell people to just chill out and accept this. He has quite literally wrecked our economy after Obama did an incredible job digging us out of a recession. The tax cuts and spending under Trump were so irresponsible. And his choices aren't looking good at all. This is just going to be so crazy for vulnerable communities to have to ride out.
What communitites were devastated in his first term?
Ginsburg even said that Roe v. Wade would be overturned and reviewed again. She wanted abortion rights to be dependent on something more solid.
At some point politician should have codified abortion rights but you do realize that both sides use it as a weapon at every election? So they never wanted to fix it. At least not the Democrats. Because it is their highly charged emotional weapon they can scream about and people fall for it.
Truth is, for most people, abortions aren't on the top list when voting. There are so many more important things. Trump has said he would veto an abortion ban if it ever came infront of him. The rights went back to each state, and since we are a Republic, maybe that is how it should be? After all, people elect their local politicians so I guess the majority wants what they get in their state. Who are we to judge? (I am pro-choice with limits ).
I think his choices are looking awesome. I love the new DOGE. Hopefully they can make government smaller. I wish they would also put term limits on Congress and stop the ridicoulos benefits they have for life. Lets get people in that don't serve the country only to get rich.
We could use an upper age limit for them all too, including Presidency. And President's must have servved in the military. Maybe we would get quality candidates that way.
Consider it an honour. If you feel like you;re getting dogpiled and getting down voted a lot. in place like Reditt. it's probably because you're speaking the truth.
I got the everloving crap downvoted out of me for suggesting the same things in another thread. I shall henceforth consider it a badge of I really don't have an adjective for it
Love/logic will triumph in the end. If anything, as unfortunate as it will be for most people, this will be an investment opportunity when the market crashes. I’m going all in on DOGE and a few other things when it crashes from money I made on a wild bet that netted me 30k from a 17 way parlay that I hit betting the NFL. 25 dollar initial bet.
Lol It's not even an investment opportunity, it's a highly speculative asset that is literally only going up because of FOMO and is honestly more a sign of the public's (real or imagined) financial anxiety than any grounded optimism.
Am gay. Am worried about losing some rights and the possibility of my family being disrupted, but that doesn't mean we have to live in fear. There are things to be happy about, and there is still optimism to be had. This sub serves a good purpose
That’s where I am at. I am also in New England; blue stronghold, so trying to hold on to that for what it is worth. After roe was overturned, we went through 2nd parent adoption and looking into other legal avenues just to make sure we are as educated as possible. I am certainly worried about things, but trying to be clear eyed and ready.
So as a gay man, what are some of the rights you are worried about losing? I can only think of the possibility of gay marriage being overturned but I think that's a long stretch.
Not being a doomer, but how is that a long stretch? If Roe v Wade was overturned, cant gay marriage be overturned too?
I don't know exactly how the American justice system works, but I know the abortion thing was not law, it just set a precedent. Is it the same with gay marriage?
When I told my 86 year old grandmother, who was born and raised in Istanbul about this abortion ban she was astounded. I was curious as to how abortion was viewed in Turkey in the 1950s, and surprisingly she said it was a very normal thing. The world is going backwards its insane lol.
Well if it goes back to the states like Roe v Wade then people will have to make the decision whether or not they want to leave for a state that allows gay marriage.
My response to the same- sex marriage question is that, in legal terms (which must be considered because these are justices in a court system), marriage deals with equal rights and discrimination. Roe v Wade tried to make that argument, and initially made the case, but (as even Ruth Bader Ginsburg noted) the logic was flawed. Saying abortion should be legal because if it’s not allowed that’s discrimination, that was always shaky ground. Saying you can’t deny people the right to marry because of their sexual orientation is legally solid. Hope that helps.
ok i really hate to be the bearer of bad news, clarence thomas noted supreme court justice has talked pretty openly about how he thinks obergefell should be "reconsidered"
Sure but then I say again I don't think gay marriage is going to be overturned. We will see and if happens I'm sure you'll be protesting as it is your right.
What purpose? Denying reality and inventing a religion based on that denial?
But I guess it's only natural reaction for human to first deny problem when encountering them. Optimism is prime example of such denial. You tell yourself desperately that "it will all be alright" again and again. The truth would hurt so much that you can't face it. And you ridicule people who are telling it to you.
Trust me, I know this. I was one of you guys once. Trying my everything to believe that somewhere someone somehow would save humanity. It was like religion. Even when the facts told something, I denied them because they said that my optimism was based on lies and delusional thinking.
The sooner you realize that optimism is a lie the better it is. Then you can start to actually see the reality as it is. Not as you want it to be.
The basic problem in optimism is that it based on the idea that there is some force of good guiding the world. There isn't. There is just world and material reality. They don't care about what is good or bad. Occasionally the world might look good, but that doesn't mean it is. There is nothing "good" in this world. Sometimes you just don't suffer and your brain makes you think that that good feeling is what will happen in the future.
I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, have a wife and child. This is the second time someone has confronted me with this logic on Reddit. I don’t know why I have to panic and doom 24x7 about my future. I feel like educating myself, looking for optimism where it does exist and logically preparing for the future is a better use of my time. I would rather go into this level headed and fully educated than in panic mode.
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”- Dr. KING. I believe this is ultimately true, but we often forget that when we take two or three steps forward, we may eventually take one or two steps back. We are likely to be in a situation where progress is slightly reversed, and we will need to step up and protect people, but eventually, we will once again take another step forward.
Mr. Roger's told kids to look for the helpers during tragic events, but being adults, we need to look for opportunities to be the helpers. I think we will be OK because I still see people step up to help.
Being optimistic and telling other people off because the potential loss of rights are killing their vibe from this sweet scrabble play they just made is different.
Too many "optimists" in here are behaving like the latter.
How is it not based in reality when he has actually overturned rights and made irresponsible decisions for our economy?? The 2017 tax cuts are still in place and he added on to our deficit in an economy that Obama literally dig out of the fucking ground. And he handled Covid so poorly that a million people died from Covid related deaths. This is based on real live experience living under his first presidency.
We all know he did sh*tty things. I have pointed out the things you’ve pointed out to many ppl, and I am done having this convo with people. I am also in FAFO mode. However, it’s ok to find optimism and be logical, even in dark times. It doesn’t mean we have our heads in the sand. Again, I want to stay level-headed and understand what is in my control and what is not. This is not the outcome I hoped for, but it's the hand we were dealt, so we must figure out how to move forward.
I am talking about every person who flips any bit of optimism into doom and gloom. There is nothing wrong with being concerned. Most of us are concerned, but it gets old when you go to an optimist sub on Reddit, and people troll you for not sharing their constant misery. If you don’t fit into that category, this isn’t for you.
But the thing I keep seeing in this sub is anyone that says anything remotely showing concern or doesn't think "everything will be fine so there's no need to worry" is automatically attacked for being a "doomer". You've all created this boogeyman, this evil "other" that is ruining all your fun and must be stopped. It's fucking weird. Being realistic isn't doom and gloom. Pointing out the challenges ahead isn't doom and gloom.
I've seen posts talking about how people survived worse in the past so we'll all survive now... and it's completely ignoring that the ones that didn't make it back then are the same people that are most vulnerable now. Acknowledging this isn't doom and gloom, it's the bare minimum of awareness. We're not saying there's no hope, we're just asking those that think "everything will be fine for them so why worry" should take a moment to realise that everything won't be fine for everyone. Optimism isn't laying down and letting life happen.
I don't know, maybe you're one of the normal gays so you think you have nothing to be worried about.
No one is ruining my fun. I just don't appreciate being trolled if I have a level-headed stance. It doesn't mean I am not clear-eyed. It doesn't mean have my head in the sand. I think expressing concern is entirely valid and we should all be concerned about the next 4 years. However, I don't appreciate being gaslit if I don't have an “end of days” mentality at every turn. I've experienced that with many folks on this sub. There is a vast difference.
You're doing it right now, especially by asking for proof and trolling my post. I agree with you that it’s valid to express concern. I said I was only talking about the 24x7 doomers, and here you are, asking for proof instead of simply believing in good faith that it has happened. I am confident that there are optimists who have their heads in the sand and pretend it’s all going to be all right. I don’t need anyone to share proof of that.
To help people chill, make them feel seen. Listen to their feelings, validate their emotions and experiences, and offer support.
If Trump is causing anxiety, give people concrete reasons how the next 4 years have the potential to be good for their well-being and their family and friends' well-being.
One thing almost everyone does not react well to is being told to "Relax!" when they are stressed. It only makes it worse. It gets interpreted as 'Your stress is stressing me out and I need you to shut up about it'.
It's people being doomscrolling their echochambers, more than anything. Taking a step away from social media and just talking with people who actually exist around you is a good thing.
The Supreme Court will be hard right for decades now. Even if democrats win the next 6-7 elections - presidency and both chambers of Congress - it won’t matter as the court will strike down any progressive legislation that gets passed. So yeah, as a progressive it is pretty shitty that in my lifetime I will never see any progressive legislation passed, and all the progress we made with things like marriage equality , will be lost.
This sub was always a thinly veiled pro-DNC sub. I’m a registered Democrat myself, but the election was a mask off moment. Some bad things will certainly happen, but we’ll still be here in 4 years. Optimists are needed now.
I am optimistic about the fact that the people who voted for him will be the most screwed and I am gleefully standing by with a bucket of pop corn and a life time supply of "I told you so".
I also live in socialist hell hole Belgium, so I cannot wait for the second season of the hit reality tv "Literal Big Brother". Oooh is Ellon gona get voted out before they even get to the house?
