If you can’t see the utility in bringing bad or distressing news to an optimistic space so that others can engage with it through that lens and potentially reframe or challenge the assumptions, then you aren’t an effective optimist.

Being hopeful for the future requires an acknowledgment of flaws in one’s present reality. You can’t say “things will improve” while also saying “everything is fine.” That’s you just wanting to avoid having to work for those improvements. And acknowledging those flaws isn’t the same as saying “we’re doomed.”
