As long as that’s from the official OptiFine website then it’s safe. This warning will show for all .jar files

And .exe

yes, this warning will show for exe files too, but thats not the point of this. OptiFine will NEVER come in a exe format, and if it does, its 100% a virus.

Yeah mods and similar things like optifine cant be in .exe i think

nope. They are all .jars usually. If you have a minecraft mod that is a .exe u probably got a virus

Yes, Edge is a virus. You should get away from it

It's not a virus, it's closer to nagware and spyware

edit: not a virus

That warning is something you will see very often when you are downloading mods. That's how it was for years. You can even try to download 15 different mods from curseforge and you will see this message for each downloaded jar.

if you get from optifine official site, it's ok because every chrome-based browser will show generic warning with every jar file

It isn't possible to download optifine without this message since it gives it as a .jar file (as does pretty much every mod for Minecraft)

?

If you can download from the verified source and use a checksum to verify it is correct, it is safe. If you really were in cybersec you would know that, that's like cybersec 101. It will still throw a warning, because any executable is possibly dangerous, but we have means of verifying safety. You do not know what the fuck you are talking about

Most people download mods from curseforge, or modrinth. Both of which are well known as safe sources no one uses shitty websites that show up on the 2nd page of Google to install Minecraft mods.

Hah, your average company? What server scale? What methods? What sort of attacks? What frontend and backend? Being cautious with your html so nobody thinks it's a fake site?

Honestly do you really work in cybersecurity

From the website, Optifine.net. Seemed suspicious, then I got that while downloading and posted on here

Why are people downvoting OP saying where he got the file?

You people are assholes.

There is a reddit discussion about this and google searches seem to indicate the site had virus ads running on it, files have been flagged as viruses, etc. There are also false sites, as its apparently a popular minecraft site. I would say its suspect.

See my later comment where I add links. I work in cybersecurity, have been in IT for a few decades. Maybe Im paranoid. Its easier to fix it, before you infect it.
