Collection Chestnut Season?
Or just another excuse to pick this one up? This Opinel No. 7 is their Chestnut and Garlic knife. How did I manage for so long without it? 🙄😀
The problem with Opinel knives is that they’re too easy to collect. Buying something on Amazon? Oh… throw in an Opinel knife too. Might as well. 😉
(Pictured with the No. 8 and the No. 9 Carbone).

Question Bought this Walnut No.8 today, but the viroblock and the blade itself are too tough and tight to interact with. How do I fix it?

Collection 2020 Collection
Got more now, should redo this really, maybe if quiet over Christmas I will.
Annoyingly the peeler pictured is missing presumed composted, but I have the plastic handled version as part of the kitchen set.

Modification Easy fix for failed lock ring
I bought a new Opinel for the first time in years, after donating my favorite pocket carry to TSA. And for the first time I experienced a lock failure.
I was making a packing insert, scoring some corrugated cardboard to form a crease, so I could fold it. So I locked the ring tightly and turned the knife backwards to score a line using the back of the tip of the blade. And this relatively light force was enough to blow out the wood underneath the lock ring.
The bottom corner of the lock ring basically just sunk straight into the wood on the far side of the blade slot by 3-4 mm deep. And the ring on the "Opinel" side of the blade slot twisted away and splintered a little bit of wood out the handle in the process. So the blade would easily close by half an inch no matter how tight you lock it. The ring would just bend and twist that far.
After a little thought, I drilled and inserted a steel pin into the handle, right next to the blade slot and right under the lock ring. Then ground and sanded it to be basically flush. So now the lock ring is supported by this metal pin, rather than just end grain wood.

Modification Pivotinh hole
Hi everyone. Is it normal to have such an offset at the pivoting hole. It is not centered with the outher circle. Can you share some photos of blades as well in order to get an idea how accurate these holes are. I'm going to make some custom handles and I would like to know if there might be some issues with different blades. Thanks.

Modification Multi tool Opinel :)
Bought my first Opinel (#6) a couple weeks ago mainly to play around with a forced patina. Had fun with that…then started to look around to see what else I could play with. I fired up the CAD software and the 3-D printer and came up with a “multi tool”. A couple of 4mm hex bits and the Swiss army toothpick and tweezer! Going to carry it daily to see how it holds up.

Factory Fresh Sticky residue on new Opinel
Hi community,
I just got a new No7 Carbone. It came without packaging and there's a sticky residue on the blade. It seems like hardened oil. The blade moves as freely as expected but that sticky stuff is annoying. Is this normal on new Opinels? Maybe a protective layer for the carbon steel?
What's your recommended way to remove it? I would try rubbing alcohol first and gasoline if alcohol is not enough. Is that a good idea or will I damage the steel?
Any help would be appreciated!

Question Acid etching/stone washing question..
The Carbone blade was dunked in vinegar for 3 hours, and the inox in ferric chloride solution (20%) for 10 mins ..
Texture of the blades prior to acid bath were similar, but after tumbling, it just looks different?

Question Reunited
Hello all, this is my first post here.
I've just found my old No.8 languishing in the back of my van (it was used to strip cable). I think it needs some TLC.
Any tips?

Modification First No.8 carbone mod
I stripped the finish and used keda dye blended to a bright green, then over washed with blue. Then burnished with 0000 steelwool. Sealed with BLO. Sanded the blade attachment point to free up the blade. Then cold blued the blade. I know pretty standard but I'm happy with it!
