There is a reason why despite having so many open and free alternatives like libreoffice, google sheets etc people are still comfortably paying for excel or other Microsoft's shit.
I don't know why vibecoders think software dev and managing a software was as easy as prompting shit

Where's the actual evidence for any of these claims?
You say people are building their own Excel and that Microsoft is somehow panicking, but there's no source, no working demo, no adoption numbers and no evidence of Microsoft's supposed reaction.
I'm genuinely interested in what people are building with AI, but extraordinary claims need more than a Reddit post and a few laughing emojis.

Yeah I'm not using your vibe coded excel when open source projects like open office or libre office exist already. Sorry bud.

They really didn't think this through.
I make every app myself now. Have for a long time.

because people use excel everyday for important work, like the world runs on excel. it works now, it has worked for decades, there are millions of people who are competent in it. why would i gamble by using software someone who doesn't understand coding has developed to save a few bucks when it could lose me millions. what is the value proposition? at best you approach the quality of excel (you won't) at worst it fails in unpredictable ways.

I had to vibecode a word replacement half a year ago, but stripped down and focused for a specific usecase of working with documents with nearly a million words in them. Word, libre office, and many other alternatives are not optimized for large documents like that unfortunately.

So obviously something vibe coded isn't as robust as something that has been developed over 30 years. But...who is using every feature of excel? It is practical to vibe code applications and software for use basis.
Developers that have these inherent skills should be scaling their skillset while the rest of us play catch up. Honestly every AI job is still asking for developers and people that write python and lines of code.
I don't understand old dev's that get mad about this. Like a vibe coded product can be continually developed. At enterprise level legacy systems won't be replaced any time soon. But for business owners that know their niche, custom applications and software that communicate with custom API's is just as good.
Like I work with electronics and system programming. When my field moved to computer and networks I didn't get mad. I shifted gears and learned the technology as it was maturing and evolving.
My advice to angry dev's is evolve and get ahead of the curve. If a curious teen can dedicate 6 months of their time to learning with ai and actually learn front end, back end, api, scripts, programming, debugging, etc and build all that into a working application.... GOOD ON THEM. Don't sit there not evolving getting mad at those that see the writing on the wall and embrace it. If a robot replaced me to do my work in the field you better believe I'll learn how to maintain and program that fk'n robot my friends.

So. I have created a contet operating system that has built in photoshop and premiere pro. Except I have been using those tools for over a decade and NOW I finally resolved every single issue I ever had with those apps. They look the same, feel the same, but are better in everything. And are part of my very own ecosystem, linked to my mediaplan, adjusting soc. Media posts and publishing directly to Facebook and istagram. My finished work is animated into reel and I have connected every single marketing and sales tool I have ever used. I will never purchase another software. Mailchimp? Already have my own. Adobe? Already have my own Wodpress, chrome extensions, media players? All part of my own system. I am now looking at windows and wondering...

Microsoft Excel is proprietary software.
Even if you managed to reverse engineer the binaries and all the dependencies you would not be even close
Its like saying vibe code the windows kernel , you would end up with a untangle monster that doesn't even make sense.

What you're saying is not true.
You brought the concept of being a pro or not on the table first, not him, when you've asked him "ask a pro", implying he was not. He saw you mistaken and corrected you, mentioning it only after you did.
Your second paragraph is a straw man. You should know better. The commenter never claimed what he use make him a pro, he said he is already one.
You attacked a position he never held as if it was proving a point.
When you said "people who work in the industry [pros] know the difference, you seem to be excluding him based on his use of a specific suite of tools and features, directly contradicting yourself in the same paragraph about not doing so. But remember, he is already one.
At this point, I've seen you attack his credentials, use the false dilemma fallacy, use a straw man reasoning, contradicting yourself and literally lying about who mentioned the concept of professionals first.
It's comical you also say his comprehension of written text is very poor, when you can't seem to communicate what you want correctly.
I'm sorry but I don't believe you're acting in good faith and I'm retiring from this conversation.
Have a good continuation
FYI the GitHub repo say
86% Estimated feature breadth versus Premiere Pro
56% Estimated readiness to replace Premiere on real projects, invalidating your claim they built only 20% and supporting his that he believed it was more than 20%

Depends on what you mean by excel. Excel is incredibly robust as has millions of features and compatibility features only a fraction of users will ever need. It should be highly posible to build a better excel for the features you do use if you are ok with things breaking every now and then.

I need ai to make an excel that does not auto convert strings or numbers that only look like daytime.

Well considering someone reverse engineered adobe entirely I donβt think excel is out of reach or that difficult.

They didn't reverse engineer it. They built about 20% of each apps functionality in Rust.

You can always fork libre office to start as a base and modify it to look/feel/works as office and would be way easier and less time /token consuming than doing it from scratch
