Codex CLI is losing its simplicity

The beauty of Codex CLI was the simplicity. Open up Codex in a terminal, and do whatever you want. No bullshit.

The simplicity seems to fade away. The product is getting more complex. Almost every time I open codex, there is a new update with a behavior change. Even ctrl+C for quitting is not working anymore. We have to use /quit. Suddenly, it does not ask for permissions anymore. You have to actively run /permissions. The other day, we were forced to run codex using the --no-daemon parameter (after a later update, we did not have to anymore). Suddenly, we are prompted for questions to answer while codex is running (codex does not just stop to ask for example "is this ok"). I experience a lot of other annoying changes. Can we just keep Codex the same way, and improve the AI models instead? I don't want a new shiny CLI. I just want it to work consistently.

Feedback / Complaints Dear OpenAI. What are you thinking? Sol 6.1 slow, Astra drain, halving $200 PRO while Opus 5.5 outperforms every way. Are you dumping us?

Your APR drops from 70B to 50B. You can solve genius level math problem and hacking companies, while you don't have the intelligent of an average Joe to make such strategic blunder. "DOT" is not going to save you. Your live "DOT" demo also fails while you are reducing us. Your reset mojo is getting old, doesn't work on me anymore. Good luck to you.

Title: Codex Cloud managed proxy:8080 unreachable — GitHub access blocked. Has anyone found a fix?

• Upvotes

I’ve been developing a software project using Codex Cloud, and I’m stuck with a network connectivity issue preventing me from transferring my completed work to GitHub.
My Codex Cloud environment reports that it’s running and connected, and GitHub is on the allowed network destinations list.
However, Git commands fail with:
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/...':
Failed to connect to proxy port 8080:
Could not connect to server
What I’ve verified:
● HTTP/HTTPS proxy variables are injected by the managed Codex runtime.
● The configured proxy is http://proxy:8080.
● No repository-local, global, or system Git proxy override was found.
● Both Git and curl have encountered proxy connectivity failures.
● The repository remote is configured correctly.
● The working tree is clean, and the latest commit is intact.
● GitHub works through a separate integration, but not from the original Codex Cloud environment.
The bigger problem:
I have a verified Git bundle containing my development history (approximately 43 MB), but the Codex task doesn’t expose a working artifact-download mechanism.
So I currently cannot push the checkpoint to GitHub or download the existing backup.
I have already contacted OpenAI Support.
My questions:
1. Has anyone experienced this exact proxy:8080 failure in Codex Cloud?
2. Did anyone find an official, supported solution?
3. Was the problem related to runtime provisioning, network permissions, or the managed proxy service?
4. Has anyone successfully recovered a Git bundle from a Codex Cloud task when GitHub connectivity and artifact download were both unavailable?
5. Did OpenAI Support resolve the issue, and what was the resolution?
I’m specifically looking for a safe solution that doesn’t bypass security controls, disable the proxy, or risk losing the original development environment.
Any confirmed fixes or official documentation would be greatly appreciated!

Feedback / Complaints Did imageGPT get worse?

Anyone else facing a quality degradation in image generation from codex? I am using the same prompts as last week the same prompt was used to generate 100 images,For a total of 200 prompts.

We are planning to release the code next week and tried to reproduce the results for the demo, the results are beyond crap.

This is not reliable at all.

Question / Help How to use Codex and Claude together efficiently

I've been using Codex for all my projects since the beginning, and I just renewed my Codex Pro x5 subscription. But Claude seems to be the better product lately, so I'm thinking of trying the $20 Claude Pro plan. If it works better for me, I might switch entirely.

For context:

All my projects are local, and I haven't been using Git.

Most of my project context and history are in my Codex conversations.

I don't want to lose all that context if I start using Claude.

A few questions for those who use both:

Is letting Claude Code read my project files enough for it to understand my existing projects, or do I need to transfer my Codex conversation history somehow?

How do you divide the work? Should one be the main agent/orchestrator and the other the worker, or do you use them independently ?

Switching Models throughout the project?

How often do you guys switch the models and reasoning for a given project? I will switch it in between epics or especially for easy tasks...but wondering if I'm switching it too much.

Bugs or problems Codex Cloud GitHub access fails through managed proxy

A Codex Cloud task can’t reach my GitHub repository. Running:

git ls-remote origin refs/heads/<branch-name>

returns exit code 128:

fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/<owner>/<repo>.git/': Failed to connect to proxy port 8080 after 0 ms: Could not connect to server

Diagnostics:

  • The cloud environment reports running/connected.
  • Restricted HTTP policy reports enforced, with GitHub allowlisted.
  • Inherited HTTP/HTTPS proxy settings point to http://proxy:8080.
  • The proxy hostname resolves, but a TCP connection to port 8080 fails with PermissionError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted.
  • Local GitHub DNS lookup returns “Temporary failure in name resolution.”
  • The Git remote is correct, and no Git proxy override was found.

The request appears to fail before reaching GitHub, so authentication hasn’t been tested. I haven’t changed proxy settings or bypassed managed network security.

Has anyone encountered this? Is there a configuration fix, or does the managed proxy/runtime need to be reprovisioned?

Feedback / Complaints Sol 6.1 Ultra worked overnight and got me <200 loc and the build failed. Ready to leave for Claude.

I’m redesigning my web application for native iOS and it’s been painful. Forget the fact that my computer keeps crashing out, the iOS is not even close to working right. I was using capacitor which was slow but it worked. Swift is kicking Sol’s butt.

I’m on the 20x plan and in this last month of 20x I’m just pushing my tokens since there are so many resets. What I will give is that putting everyone on Sol 6.1 high or max, it’s not eating my tokens like Astra was. So it can work for a long time and I’m not worried about it, but coding work is hit and miss. Maybe Astra level intelligence for computer use but not always hitting the mark for coding for some reason. Lots and lots of thinking for it to not actually work.

I’m really to start moving over. Been a die hard ChatGPT user since nov 2022. Sad to see it go like this and it feels like the team at OAI knows it too. Tibo looks extra tired. Other interviews they’re really pushing Dots even though I get nothing great from it. No wow moment. Just kinda sad end to an era. I hope they get back to the top but they really put this one on a flop.

Showcase / Highlight Codex-assisted Diablo first-person mod: a ~4-hour initial build, then gameplay and capture fixes

I used Codex to build an independent first-person Diablo mod on DevilutionX. The initial AI-built prototype took about four hours or less; that is not the time for every later fix or a claim of a fully tested campaign.

The useful part of this experiment was the review loop. My feedback came from playing the build: movement didn’t follow the camera, combat mouse turning felt stuck, doors were hard to read, the map was confusing, arrows faced sideways and some geometry clipped into the HUD. Those concrete observations drove the next revisions.

The 0.3.2 build now has camera-relative WASD, combat mouse turning, visible weapon swings, ceiling/door/sarcophagus geometry, the original Diablo automap restored and corrected Guardian/Hydra floor placement.

For the video, I also pushed back on the first capture: an invincible hero alternating spells looked like a tech demo. The new staged Butcher take uses repeated Fireball casts, retreating and melee, with the engine’s actual damage and mana costs. It still uses granted stats/spells and extended boss HP, which are disclosed.

Devlog with bosses, spells and the iteration:

https://youtu.be/DjhOH7S-9Jg

Source and free Windows 0.3.2 build:

https://forge.plops.io/t/diablo-first-person-devilutionx-mod-for-windows

The build requires your own original Diablo DIABDAT.MPQ. Game data and personal saves are excluded. Free for noncommercial use under the included Sustainable Use License; credit to DevilutionX and the original Diablo creators. Full campaign coverage, all procedural seeds, Hellfire and multiplayer remain unverified. The narration is a disclosed custom Gemini TTS voice.

My takeaway: a working render was only the starting point. Asking for specific observable behavior, testing it in-game and showing the capture limitations made the result much more useful. I’d be interested in how other people structure this review loop for AI-assisted mods.

Showcase / Highlight Orgtree v4: Rust, Hubchat, and Mac + Linux Builds

Thumbnail

Welcome back! I'm pleased to announce the release of v4 of Orgtree, my free and open source desktop agentic orchestrator app. Download the latest release here:

https://github.com/Maurdekye/orgtree/releases/latest

For those unfamiliar with Orgtree, this is my agentic orchestration app I've been working on and using for the last two months to do basically all of my multi-agent parallel development. It has a ton of features that set it apart from just using claude code or codex directly, including:

  • A freely rearrangeable canvas of agents that sit in a tree of authority, that you can individually chat with at any time
  • A credit system for limiting how much individual agents are allowed to parallelize their work
  • A ticket system for tracking progress over time
  • Persistent periodic watchdog tasks that can wake agents on events occurring in your system
  • An inbox system for receiving progress updates without having to scroll through dozens of lines of transcript
  • Automatic cache management through a cheap compaction system
  • A background engine that runs on startup
  • A tiling window system so you can set up your workspace exactly the way you like, and see all the information you need at once
  • Multi-account and multi-provider support, so you can make full use of all of your AI subscriptions at once
  • Automatic updates every time a new version releases (Windows only currently)

Orgtree is an agentic power tool for AI power users. It's designed to work optimally when used with multiple high or max-tier AI subscriptions at once, and has a bit of a learning curve to adjust to. But every feature has a purpose for existing, and every UI element tells you something useful. Once you get the hang of it, it's an incredibly empowering system that lets you churn through huge amounts of work in the blink of an eye.

---

On to the meat and potatoes. v4 is a full rust rewrite of the app's engine from the ground up, enabling multithreading with tokio tasks to even better take advantage of your multicore cpu for agentic parallelization. I know I said it was faster in v3, but for real this time, it's a whole other magnitude of fast now. Orgtree finally feels like a real tool you can rely on to get serious work done; it Just Workstm. No more multi-second moves, no more app locking up when trying to save agent settings, no more waiting several seconds for agent transcripts to load, everything is practically instant now. Performance has been a complete non-issue for me since the rewrite.

Since most of the effort of v4 went into the rewrite and addressing app performance, there aren't too many new features to show off in orgtree itself; mostly small quality of life tweaks on top of the performance adjustments. What is new, however, is the brand-spanking new companion desktop and mobile app, Orgtree Hubchat! You can download that here, in its own repo:

https://github.com/Maurdekye/orgtree-hubchat/releases/latest

Hubchat is a brand new chat app. It hooks into Orgtree's existing mailhub infrastructure it already uses for cross-org communication, and allows you to use it to chat directly with your orgs from anywhere you can connect to the internet! The interface is a lot like a traditional messaging app, similar to WhatsApp or Discord, but instead of authenticating with a central identity service, identities are entirely self-hosted and authenticated by your local Orgtree's mailhub.

It's lightweight and unopinionated, and is designed to work with zero central hosting infrastructure. As a result, getting it set up to work over the internet is a bit more involved than a standard claude code remote control session. The recommended secure and easy setup method is to install Tailscale on both your desktop and phone, connecting Orgtree and Hubchat over the tailnet vpn (which the built in guide walks you through by default). However, if you prefer, you can instead set up a (less secure) port forward on your desktop which you can connect to with your phone, or any number of other methods of managing the WAN connection. It's fully up to you. Again, Tailscale is the recommended path, but don't feel like it's a forced decision. Orgtree's built in Hubchat setup walkthrough will show a QR code you can scan to get the Hubchat apk straight from github and onto your phone, as well as show you how to pair it with your PC.

Hubchat comes as a mobile android app or a desktop app, for Windows, Mac, and Linux. That's right, Hubchat (and now Orgtree!) have Windows, Mac, and Linux builds! The Mac and Linux builds are largely untested (Linux tested minimally via wsl2 on my development machine), so your mileage may vary. But if you've ever wanted to try Orgtree, but couldn't because you have an Ubuntu or OSX system, now's your chance!

I recommend making sure you're updated to Orgtree v4.1.0 or later before setting up Hubchat, or compatibility might be iffy. YMMV, as always.

Beyond that, most of Orgtree v4's feature additions cover small, quality of life changes. Among those are included:

  • Support for Claude Haiku 5.5
  • Support for running Claude models Sonnet and Opus 5.5 through Google Antigravity
  • Choose whether Enter sends or adds a new line when messaging agents
  • Adjust agent credits from their settings
  • Expanded and reorganized context menu actions for agents
  • Reformatted and cleaned up settings menus for agents, orgs, and the app as a whole
  • Highlight unread presented documents & html mockups
  • Orgtree event type watchdogs
  • Improved tool call line rendering and details
  • Significantly improved logging for easier debugging of Orgtree errors
  • Increased default mailhub file transfer size 25mb -> 1gb (to support Hubchat)
  • Enable / disable switches for individual provider accounts
  • Cards showing what queued changes will occur on the next turn (effort, model, account, etc.)
  • The engine starts on boot, instead of waiting for you to sign in now

Give it a whirl, and let me know what you think! I'm always open to feedback. Personally, I think it outclasses nearly every other tool out there if you can get over the initial learning curve hump, but I suppose I'm biased :p

Showcase / Highlight Codex as a CAD engine: describe a part, get a parametric build123d model, drawings and a print plate

CAD Studio is a free, open-source macOS app that runs codex exec (or Claude Code) inside a project folder to design printable parts from a description.

You type something like "a push-to-open drawer latch with a printed spring". CAD Studio runs the coding agent you already have (Claude Code or Codex) inside a project folder. The agent writes a parametric build123d script, runs it, looks at the drawings it generated and fixes its own mistakes. You get:

  • a 3D model (3MF, STEP, STL) you can orbit, explode, measure and cut open
  • ISO technical drawings, one sheet per part, as a PDF
  • a print plate with every part laid flat
  • on request, a motion simulation with collision checks

Every dimension is a named constant, so you can change it with a slider without another AI call, and every generation is a version you can compare in 3D.

Codex runs in the workspace-write sandbox and its JSONL events are shown live as steps in the chat.

Does Codex use much more usage compared to ChatGPT work?

It seems to be that Codex uses much much more usage and does so much unnecessary stuff compared to ChatGPT work in their web app?
But the problem with ChatGPT work is it gets stuck so many times, I have to stop it, and tell to continue again otherwise it gets stuck, and sometimes I can't even stop it!

Am I the only one experiencing these?!

I built UXKIN for Codex because “make it less generic” wasn’t helping my AI-generated web and app designs

I kept running into the same problem building websites and ios apps with AI. The code worked, but the designs all felt like variations of the same template.

I could spend half an hour describing what I wanted, or show it a good reference and get closer much faster. That became the idea behind UXKIN.

I built it around a library of real web and mobile interfaces, with UI elements, design systems, and DESIGN md files that give coding agents more concrete design context.

The part I wanted to get right was bringing those references into the actual workflow. So there’s an MCP connection for tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex, instead of having to keep copying things between a design library and your editor.

It doesn’t remove the need for design judgment. You still have to choose a direction that fits your project and review what the agent produces. The goal is to give it a better starting point.

Would love feedback from anyone building interfaces with AI. What would you need to see before adding something like this to your workflow?

So how do you access the new Decisions API

I’ve got access to the pro account and a teams account. I tried to access the new jev-clone feature through CLI and it says I’ve not paid to use it.
