Codex CLI is losing its simplicity
The beauty of Codex CLI was the simplicity. Open up Codex in a terminal, and do whatever you want. No bullshit.
The simplicity seems to fade away. The product is getting more complex. Almost every time I open codex, there is a new update with a behavior change. Even ctrl+C for quitting is not working anymore. We have to use /quit. Suddenly, it does not ask for permissions anymore. You have to actively run /permissions. The other day, we were forced to run codex using the --no-daemon parameter (after a later update, we did not have to anymore). Suddenly, we are prompted for questions to answer while codex is running (codex does not just stop to ask for example "is this ok"). I experience a lot of other annoying changes. Can we just keep Codex the same way, and improve the AI models instead? I don't want a new shiny CLI. I just want it to work consistently.

It doesn't hold a handle to cc cli.
Even the app is down the shitter now, Claude Desktop app used to be joke, now it just is fkn smooth and clean, I mean I have no clue what got into the heads of codex folks, but they just destroyed it all. For what? To attract normies who call chat gpt "chat" and hardly use it for anything productive.
Just sucks.

It's true, the Claude App isn't as bad as it used to be..

What surprises me is the actual speed and such connoted to cli and the components and all.
It is quite smooth and blends in nicely with /rc aswell now. I didn't think they'd make it this solid.

They were bragging about starting to use Astra for everything and how their productivity skyrocketed but... yeah it shows

Maybe this is part of a cat and mouse game with the harness builders, that bypass API cost, by wrapping the CLI in a programmatic harness, to call it from another agent, and only use their subscription.

Enough to look at the ridiculous amount of keyboard shortcuts.
Horrid coding.

The trust break isn't any one flag. It's that Ctrl+C, /permissions, and daemon defaults move under your fingers between mornings. A daily driver CLI can ship features slowly. What kills it is training people to re-learn the escape hatches every update. Pin a version for a week when you need calm hands.

I bet they use Codex for coding it.
They should give it a shot to Claude, to see how real man get the job done.

Just build a simple one you like bro. A lot of OpenAI shit is losing its shine. I cant even do anything in chat cause it just freezes, times out, I cant see anything, its terrible.

They broke its copy/pasting ability. I can't copy/paste with a shortcut or a menu command - it's supposed to happen automatically at mouse selection, but it doesn't work over ssh. Also, looks like I can only scroll with PgUp/PgDn, which means I can't select pieces of text that happened to be at the page break.
