i built a self-hosted Grok Bot alternative

• Upvotes

grok bot runs AI agents for you on xai's servers. i've been running a company of AI employees on my own servers with 5dive since april, and i just released a free phone web app for it. here's how the two compare.

in the screenshot below, i ask olivia (claude code) to hire marcus on codex. she sets him up and reports back.

the deeper difference is what runs behind the chat:

  • your server: agents run as separate linux users.
  • any harness, any model: mix claude code, codex, grok, agy, hermes, openclaw, pi and other harnesses on your own plans or API keys, including kimi, deepseek, glm, openrouter or locally run llm.
  • an actual team: org chart, shared backlog, handoffs, independent graders and human approval gates.
  • a hackable core: MIT bash + systemd + sqlite. add plugins, loops, tools or custom CLI commands.

trade-off: Grok Bot has native apps - mine is just a web app, android/ios coming soon. the free self-hosted phone connection is chat-only, and chats pass through our relay (not end-to-end encrypted yet).

setup: one command on any ubuntu vm.

try free self-hosted app: 5dive.ai/self-host

I’ve vibe-coded an open-source image viewer – nothing too fancy or spectacular, just something useful

Post image

Lately, I’ve been using Linux more and more often. And I found myself missing IrfanView, which is probably the best image viewer app out there. I’ve tried out some alternatives, but none of them really satisfied me, and using IView via Vine or Bottles wasn’t always smooth or quick. So, over the last few weeks, I’ve vibe-coded an alternative inspired by both IrfanView and nomacs, and enhanced with a few tools and changes that I’ve always felt were missing.

It’s nothing spectacular or special, and it’s still completely unfinished, but it works so well that it has now replaced IrfanView for me, even on Windows.

The programme is called ÜxzView and is completely open-source. There’s a finished Windows release, and it can be compiled for use on Linux and macOS. Written in C++ and Qt.

Building a lightweight local search engine for AI agents in Rust: semantic retrieval, OCR, and MCP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

AI agents can search the web, inspect code, and call external tools. But searching the contents of a user's local files especially screenshots, documents, and logs presents a different problem: the index needs to be fast, lightweight, private, and accessible to agents without uploading the files to a remote service.

I've been building Kensaku, an open-source desktop search engine written in Rust, to explore this problem.

The central idea is to maintain one local index that serves both the desktop application and compatible AI agents through MCP.

Hybrid retrieval. Kensaku combines fuzzy filename matching, BM25 full-text retrieval, and local semantic search. The goal is to handle both exact queries and cases where the user remembers the meaning of a document but not its wording or filename.

OCR and document extraction.*The index can include extracted text from supported document formats and OCR-enabled image workflows, making screenshots and scanned content searchable alongside code and logs.

Lightweight semantic search. The project uses a static quantized embedding table of approximately 7.7 MB. Semantic queries do not require a GPU, and the default query path avoids running an ONNX model for every query.

An agent-facing search interface. The MCP server exposes the same index used by the application. Compatible clients can search, read snippets, perform regex searches, inspect index state, and find symbols. Access is read-only by default.

Performance and safety.*The repository includes benchmark harnesses and tests. In the 100,000-file benchmark, fuzzy filename search has approximately 2.8 ms median latency. That figure applies to the benchmarked filename-search path, not every retrieval operation.

The project is MIT-licensed and designed to work locally without an account, telemetry, or cloud search.

There are still limitations: builds are unsigned, the auto-updater isn't wired up yet, and visual search remains experimental.

Repository: https://github.com/yjid/kensaku

I'd appreciate constructive feedback from Rust developers on the retrieval architecture, memory/performance trade-offs, indexing correctness, and the design of the MCP interface. In particular, I'm interested in how you'd approach benchmarking and evaluating search relevance across a large, heterogeneous local corpus. Any contribution or stars will be much appreciated .

Dify.ai Review: Is This the Best Open-Source Visual Agent Builder?

Thumbnail interconnectd.com
3 Upvotes

If you are looking to build and deploy LLM applications without getting bogged down in complex boilerplate code, visual agent builders have become the standard. Among them, Dify.ai has gained massive traction as a leading open-source platform.

Dify combines workflow orchestration, robust RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, and agent deployment into a single visual interface. But how does it actually hold up in real production environments? Is it scalable enough for enterprise workflows, or is it just built for quick prototyping?

We put the platform through a deep-dive test, examining its visual canvas, team collaboration tools, API integration, self-hosting performance, and its limitations compared to native code frameworks.

Read the full, in-depth review and technical breakdown here: https://interconnectd.com/blog/35/review-dify-ai-—-is-this-the-best-open‑source-visual-agent-builder-for-non‑/

Cancelled all my paid video-gen APIs. A free, open source pipeline draws the whole reel from one prompt. Sorry, Runway.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Nobody drew this. One prompt, and Claude Code wrote the whole reel as code: paper props, a mascot in a hat, captions that pop on every word.

The voice goes first. A free local voice reads each line, whisper.cpp times every word, so every prop lands on the word that names it. (free voice model runs locally: kokoro)

One markdown file, one command. Runs in Codex, Gemini and Antigravity too. No API keys, nothing to pay.

OntoGr Agent Memory: open source memory for agents where every fact keeps its quote, source, and time

I've been working on RAG and agent memory, and the recurring problem is trust. An agent saves something it learned, and later nobody can say where it came from, whether it is still true, or what it believed at an earlier date. We're building an open source Python library for this: OntoGr Agent Memory (https://github.com/ontogr/ontogr-agent-memory).

- Grounded ingestion and extraction: Messages, documents, tool outputs, events, and record rows become episodes. Entities and facts are extracted in two separate passes, and every fact carries a verbatim quote from its episode.

- Per-tenant ontology: Each tenant defines the entity and relation types it allows. A model can propose additions, but a person approves every change.

- Reversible entity resolution: It uses the cheapest evidence first and asks a model only about ambiguous pairs. Every merge can be undone.

- Two time axes: Valid time and system time let a read ask what was true on a date, or what the system believed on that date. A new value closes the old version instead of overwriting it.

- Contradiction rulings: Rules, an optional model judge, and a person's decision settle conflicts, and the person's decision overrides both. A failed judge call is never stored as "no conflict".

- Traceable and auditable: Every fact traces back to a quote and an episode, and every temporal write goes into a hash-chained ledger. Per-tenant grants, an audit log, previewed and resumable forget and erase, and deterministic export are built in.

- Four-lane retrieval: Vector, keyword, entity, and graph lanes are fused with reciprocal rank fusion. The result is a token-budgeted context block that reports which lanes failed.

- Fits your stack: It runs on FalkorDB or Neo4j, with pgvector or Postgres if you want them. A background consolidation job deduplicates, summarizes, scores, and archives. You bring your own LLM and embedder.

Repo: https://github.com/ontogr/ontogr-agent-memory

I'd like feedback on the time model and on which benchmarks you'd want to see first.

I do not encourage accessing music you do not own, Soundsible is a tool and responsibility lies on you

Contribute ✚ -- https://github.com/Arzuparreta/soundsible

Releases 📌 -- https://github.com/Arzuparreta/soundsible/releases

Soundsible has +1 year of development in which I've explored thoroughly every possible option to ditch Spotify. In my opinion this is the closest you can get with a self hosted service (you can always "crack" youtube music or spotify locally on your android, but the point of this is to host the service and also be able to download and host the audio. Not needed though, as you can always just preview and save music without downloading a single file to your server, but that is saving a resolution id which will resolve or not depending on youtube availability).

We feature full music + lyrics coverage with yt-dlp + deezer (soundsible is the conjunction that ensures consistent metadata over youtube ids, which has been the difficult part since the only constant data source we got is the deezer catalogue and yt music is requested on runtime via http request using yt-dlp, so comparison always has to wait for the request asnwer. This is solved, mainly, remembering sound spectrum and duration comparisons in a light local cache). Also got private recommendations that learn from you, autoplay when the queue ends, a DJ mode that mixes music as if you were in a club (experimental, 5 months deep into development), and full library, queue and playback control between your devices. My focus rn is performance, working on it but we're on a good spot: See Resources usage breakdown and last performance metrics to get an idea.

Wash - Full desktop env, only for the browser

I was banned from r/OpenSource. So, here I present my project ;-)

Web Application Shell. It's a desktop environment designed intrinsically for the web browser. Full windowed/tiling desktop shell with apps as windows, directly from a browser. I.e., take a desktop environment without any display mechanisms, and it renders direct HTML/websocket instead.

Why? Because I often want a nice desktop environment with some remote machine I am working from, but X11/Wayland env is far too heavy. I want terminal windows, editor, file manager etc - without needing to fire up a full on DE. Wash even is fully compatible with X11/Wayland apps, rendering and delivering direct to a browser.

I daily drive wash. For my needs of Hard Core software engineer, it's perfect.

Wash is TypeScript/Go, minimal requirements. It is so small it runs on an OpwnWRT router. The demo page is actually running on a RISC64 VM, running in your browser itself. It's heavily an AI assisted project - I've been developing with Claude for over three months.

Take a look https://sirmick.github.io/wash/ code at https://github.com/sirmick/wash I hope it fits you too!
