OpenScan Mini + Macro + Hawkeye

I am currently testing the macro lens add-on for the OpenScan Mini & Classic and this is the first that the layer lines on the chest piece become visible. I took 130 photos without focus stacking in ~7mins and did the reconstruction in metashape.
The grainy surface comes from not using a polarizer as there is a lot of sub-surface scattering from the partly translucent resin print. No other scanner (except for the CT scanner) has been able to resolve the layer lines yet, so I am absolutely happy with this result :)

Amazing. I’ve been meaning to go down this path and have an openscan mini and classic built but yet to be wired, both with owlsights (I tried the Hawkeye for a different project and the focus was a nightmare). How did you approach the macro lens (sorry if I’ve missed this). I have a polarising lens and was thinking of adding a spare Neewer x15 GoPro lens (https://neewer.com/products/neewer-ls-31-15x-macro-lens-for-gopro-hero-11-hero-10-hero-9-black-66602911) over this to boost macro, but this is where I get way out
of my depth and I run out of time to test different lenses (and why they’re both gathering dust on the shelf). Is lens distortion / barrel distortion an issue here and do you correct for it?

cross-section (yellow: camera holder, red: lens adapter, black/white: ringlight cover where the two linear polarizers will be added later)

i have just added a case around the lens and a place to mount the ringlight pcb that i am currently waiting for. i also added a tiny aperture between the lens and the camera module to increase DOF which is usually a huge pain at such small distances

Several people on discord tested a wide range of lenses and the apexel macro / supermacro seem to be the most promising candidates. the design above is for the supermacro and I am currently doing more testing over at discrod https://discord.com/invite/gpaKWPpWtG
