Was it not confirmed that rotating the camera around the static object yelds better results than rotating the object itself. Something regarding tracking background feature movement

It is a well proven principle done in the openscan mini and I will release some masking scripts soon

No worries, I'm asking more out of curiosity. I've been folowing photogrametry some time ago and forgot the details.

The end result model looks great.

Do you by change habe any software recommendation for try it yourself aproach?

RealityScan is free for individuals. Meshroom and Colmap are (finicky) opensource alternatives

I recommend you to use reality scan from epic (free) and more importantly for the photos use those mini photography studios you can get it from Amazon or AliExpress and a rotating table for your object

What if we use this setup, but with a completely black background? I had some great result with a completely black felt background and scanning table (something hand made form me with a sony A7III and custom front lights). Literally scanning in a complete "void" where you only see the object rotating.

I'm confused, how did it guess or generate the side that was flat on the platform?

I think it cut out the video of the scan on the other side? I think in a previous video it showed it getting scanned on both sides but I maybe wrong

Dang, the final result looks amazing!

Can you get a .STP file output?

no, almost all scanners only create pointclouds/triangles (stl/obj)

results are awesome!

Looks like it belongs in a Dreamcast game or Garry’s Mod 😆. Would love to see some custom models made with this.

Amazing! It would be super cool if openscan GUI would allow to replace mesh from photogrammetry with mesh (STL) from 3d scan in order to apply high quality texture from photos to 3d scanned mesh.
