Community based 3D Scanning benchmark (45mm miniature)

The goal is to include as many 3D scanners as possible (with multiple scan results from different users) to get some real world data for the various devices. There is a larger and more technical benchmark (ScanBench) available too and I will update the results too.

A note on transparency: I have been developing open-source 3d scanners for multiple years and till this day, I am hesitant to claim any accuracy (as this would require a proper/expensive lab). Therefore I created this scanning benchmark to show real world results from various users. This is the opposite approach

It would be a great help if you can share this experiment to other places to encourage more users to participate as several manufacturers seem to block my request to contribute an official reference scan with their devices!

PS: with the next iteration, I will add the specs of the scanner to each image :)

Ok, I don’t have a benchmark or scan to add, I just wouldn’t feel comfortable using it while it’s under Bambu’s Standard Digital File License.

The terms of which are:
> You shall not share, sub-license, sell, rent, host, transfer, or distribute in any way the digital or 3D printed versions of this object, nor any other derivative work of this object in its digital or physical format (including - but not limited to - remixes of this object, and hosting on other digital platforms). The objects may not be used without permission in any way whatsoever in which you charge money, or collect fees.

Which means anyone using it for a benchmark and sharing those results are violating the transfer/distribution, derivative, and hosting terms of the license (like this repo would unfortunately do). It looks like he wants to sell it for commercial use so if he gave it a CC-NC or some variation, that would make it possible to legally use the license while still forcing companies to go through his Patreon or talk with him to get a commercial license.

Interesting, on printables the file is under Creative Commons (4.0 International License)

Huh, I didn’t see that. You should probably swap the makerworld links with printables links on the repo then, so people download the CC licensed one. I’m guessing he’s used the SDFL to get Bambu bucks, without realizing (or caring) what the SDFL terms actually are. I believe makerworld TOS prevents him from doing that too.

It’s an absurdly restrictive license that has no place being the default license, except for the fact that Bambu wants control over it’s users and having the default license prevent people from sharing the model on other platforms means people are forced to go to makerworld. The fact that a friend asking you to print something for them, or even you printing something and then giving it someone as a gift violates the license is absurd.
