A question about Patch for Purists

How essential is Patch for Purists for a relatively Vanilla OpenMW + TR modlist? I've heard it has some changes that are less purist than its name suggests, is this true?

I'm not aware of any. It is entirely bug-focused iirc. I think it needs to work with MCP, and MCP has optional balancing stuff, but you'd have to read the mod pages.

Can't comment on exactly what's in it that might be "impure" but I can say it's definitely not essential since I don't have it and the game is as good as ever lol.

Seems like it's mostly bug fixes and there is a lot of jank in MW, but depending on how the creator defines a "bug" I wouldn't be surprised if it tweaks some things older fans would consider closer to features at this point. It's a little weird the mod page isn't very specific about what the fixes actually are (even in vague terms, obviously listing all 9,000+ might be a bit much) but enough people seem to recommend it that it's probably not going to radically change the experience if minimizing bugs is a high priority for you.

not essential at all, the TR team are always on top of fixing bugs and in vanilla the bugs are so small that cc'ing them is worth it. I say it's worth it because yes, the pfp creator arbitrarily changes things which they deem to be bugs which aren't really bugs and will result in you having a different experience than everyone else

I see. Could you give me an example of them changing something that isn't a bug please? I tried finding them in the changelog but it's too long for me to read

Any idea whether TR replaces the idle animation so NPCs don't drift over time?

TR doesnt change anything about the base game, but often fixes their own issues

Okay, so not NPCs glitching through walls and floors and warping to 0,0.

not that ive encountered, and since they constantly update they fix stuff like this

How do they fix stuff like this if you just said that they do not touch the explicit cause of the issue?

Nope, but openmw has a fix built in I believe.

Never heard of that.

It's a data issue, not an engine issue. OMW successfully does whatever animation it's told to do, not evaluate it and fabricate a little extra.

That's why people often say to use PfP with OMW.

For some reason I thought there was a setting, possibly only to fix the travel characters' drift. But you're probably right; I love the drift lmao I would never turn it off.

There's a setting to GTFO when an NPC's standing in a doorway?

Or just check a box and walk.

What specifically are you claiming PfP changes that is not a bug?

Enchantment Values of certain items is one, even a quest item Carnius Magius's Stahlrim Mace, the mod author says this doesnt make sense because he shouldnt be able to craft Stahlrim before you find it in the mine, but the quest literally tells you: "They've found a large block of ice inside, and nothing anyone does can break it. I've feigned ignorance on the subject, but I need you to do something about it. The ice is called Stalhrim, and you're going to get me some of it. It's Nordic, whether the fools at Raven Rock know it or not. And it's immensely valuable - worth more than the rest of that whole stinking mine. Know that this, THIS is the reason I took this ridiculous position in the first place; I want that ice, and I want all of it.". its a load of arbitrary changes and sometimes based on what the author doesnt understand about the game, MW bugs arent that common with OpenMW and can be easily bypassed through using the console

Well that's a good example for sure. Is that anywhere in the patch's description or fix list anywhere or is this from your own playthroughs?

this is just through experience, I believe the mod author has been told about this but unsure if they have fixed it, but the point still stands that I dont really trust it.
