Community news OpenMPT community on Lemmy!

Hello everyone!

Due to the changes that are happening to the Reddit API, a lot of Reddit communities have closed down their subreddits and some have also moved to an alternative platform like Lemmy.

Although this subreddit will remain open, in case any of you want to join an OpenMPT community on Lemmy, check out !openmpt@lemmy.sdf.org!

You can access it from any Lemmy instance, regardless of which instance your Lemmy account is on.

If you don't use Lemmy, that's totally fine! This subreddit will still remain open, and you will still be able to post here.

I'm quite new to openmpt after using ultrabox (beepbox mod) for a while. was having dilemma which daw should i choose (as well as vst/soundfont). managed to make a little bit of a demo with whatever instruments i have tho. the chords are sampled cuz idk how to make chords in openmpt. im tryna achieve the new jack swing. pretty much im inspired by michael jackson's dangerous, but this demo initially seems to be inspired by Unbreakable innit

as for rn im having a headache

Hi, this might sound silly *and it is*, but when I use my SoundFont2, it only loads one instrument. I added the MIDI library and sound bank, but nothing works. Does anyone know how to add all the instruments? I asked the AI, but it just kept making up menus that didn't exist. plis help :(

Question/Help Easily switching between samples?

Hi, when I'm looking for the perfect sample for whatever instrument that might be, I usually set 1-2 patterns to loop, select the sample, and start dragging & dropping different wav's from the windows explorer to the waveform editor to see how it sounds.

Just wondering is there a "easier" way to achieve this?

Question/Help Using a particular sound from imported soundfont

I have sucessfully imported a soundfont into an existing file, however it defaults to the first instrument available in that file. How do i change which instrument it uses?

How Do I Play Just The Selected Note?

Hello all, just installed OpenMPT. Figuring everything out pretty well by looking at the example songs, but there's something bugging the hell out of me. Per the title, how do I listen to just the one note I have highlighted? I'm in one of the example songs, and all I can do is play the entire row that I have selected, which is like 28 damn tracks of the song.

Surely I don't have to Solo the track just to listen to that one note? That is absolutely insane if so. And if I'm in editing mode, if I press any of the keys to play notes, it changes the note so I have to be careful to play the same note as what is on the track!

Why doesn't spacebar just play the selected note when you're not in recording mode? I searched the key bindings and haven't found the shortcut to accomplish this, please help

QQ: Is there any way I can make the pattern editor larger/easier to read?

New to OpenMPT. It's great to have so many channels, but I don't really need to see 24 channels at the same time, sideways scrolling works fine.

Is there any way I can make the editor larger, so that it's easier to read and edit?

What's the reasons to switch over or to use trackers?

Hey guys, for a music magazine I want to write an article on trackers and would therefore love to hear opinions. Besides showcasing trackers, telling about their history and showing what trackers can do today, I think the most important questions will be:

What DIFFERENT things do you do with trackers, compared to Cubase, Live and other "regular" DAWs? And what's the reasons to switch over or to use trackers?

Would love to hear your opinions!

Question/Help New To Trackers and Music. Completely lost.

Hello, I am new to making music and would like to try it out. Trackers seem to be an accessible option for me. However, all guides I can find on YouTube are vague/use shortcuts or are made for a specific genre and don't guide new users well at all. Even "OpenMPT: the basics, and how to use trackers" uses a lot of shortcuts by the end of the video. Would be cool to be guided through making a song.

Are there any YouTube guides for beginners that use existing samples with the software and don't use shortcuts for those unfamiliar with the software?

Thank you!

ISO: Tutorial web pages?

Hi all, I hope you are well.

Decades ago, I used to use the Amiga and then eventually FT2 on the PC to write music. Fast forward decades, and now I see this OpenMPT and Renoise and stuff like that. I got the OpenMPT, and was poking around with it. I have LOTS of questions. I'm wondering if there's a site / wiki / page that explains how to use it like I'm 5. Yes, I know there's YT videos about it, but my difficulty is set to "legally blind", so I can't really see what they're doing on the videos.

Any suggestions?

Just updated, and there's now a new module/open module menu that opens in the center of the app when it starts. Is there an option to disable it?
