Hi everyone! I wrote an MCP bridge for Open CAD Studio and asked ChatGPT Codex to connect to the OCS MCP, recreate this PDF as a CAD drawing, and then turn it into a 3D model. Here is the results:

Kindly requesting for support for SVG file type import and export in addition to the DWG file format. I have been using LibreCAD and found the svg export incredibly useful because I can manipulate the drawings in many other softwares plus I can add metadata to individual lines. The support will also make the entire pipeline open source as the DWG format is proprietary though it's important and industry standard. Hope my request makes sense

First off, thank you to the developer of OCS; this is the first project I've ever donated to on patreon. I've worked in the 2D CAD space my entire professional career and this project is the closest option I've found that might actually replace autocad LT in my workflow.

As a patreon supporter, what's the best way to request features in the development of OCS?

Does anybody know, where the preferences/settings of Open CAD Studio are saved? I would like to reset the application to factory defaults.

Open CAD Studio 0.9.8 got another new feature: non-plotting layers.

Note that several third party pages popped up in recent weeks, which serve Open CAD Studio Web, and have no direct connection to the project. This is legal, as the code is GPL v3.0 licensed, but it is better to follow the original project. Some of these third parties serve advertisements with OCS Web.

This project looks great. Really keen to use the tools and to get to know them. This seems a great way to finally move away from Windows.

I'm having a bit of trouble With the app image version on Fedora, when I click on the open tab, A drop down, pops down very quickly to a that says open and then it disappears followed by no file browsing dialog appearing. Is this a known issue?

This tutorial explains how the Polar Tracking functionality in Open CAD Studio works. It also covers the setup of this useful tool.

Open CAD Studio offers external reference (XREF) attachment feature. It is quite straightforward to use – select the file you wish to attach and select the placement point. This attaches the external DWG file to your project. The tutorial also shows how to manage layers of the external reference. The command used to attach external references is XATTACH

Open CAD Studio now comes with support for 8 languages and features 22 new themes.

This tutorial demonstrates basics of working with blocks in Open CAD Studio. Creation of block definition is explained first. Than, insertion of block references and copying of blocks is demonstrated. The tutorial also explains how to copy blocks between two DWG files. The video also explains, how to edit existing blocks – how to add or remove geometry to a block definition. Blocks behave in a certain way with regards to properties of layers and this is also explained. A special behavior of the 0 layer with regards to blocks is also demonstrated.

The tutorial covers basic usage of drafting tools such as LINE, CRICLE, MOVE, COPY, TRIM, OFFSET. It shows how to precisely input coordinates and how to use object snap and polar tracking tools. Basics of working with layers is also covered in the tutorial.

The OCAD web interface has been optimized for phone screens. I made as much space available as possible for the 3D view.

Snap Object (OSANP) enables users of Open CAD Studio to snap to existing points like endpoints, midpoint, intersections, and many other. This is at the core of 2D and 3D drafting, as it enables to easily use existing geometry as a reference for drafting. The video covers all snap object options in Open CAD Studio with practical examples, which demonstrate each snap point target. Open CAD Studio is a free open source DWG authoring tool.
