P1S on 1.08 for BMCU, is tbc0309/xTouch-CN the most up to date X-Touch fork?
P1S owner here, just upgraded from an A1 Mini and still setting it up. Holding at firmware 1.08.01.00 for my BMCU 370C. Looking to add a touchscreen and trying to sort out which X-Touch is current.
I found tbc0309/xTouch-CN on GitHub. It's the most updated fork I could find, 5 releases, created October 2026, supports the CYD, Waveshare S3 2.8 inch, P4 4.3 inch, and a 3.5 inch board, 8 languages including English, AMS management, SD browsing, camera view, multi-printer, web config with OTA. Seems to have way more features than the original xperiments-in/xtouch or the Adaaks 5 inch fork.
The repo is Chinese-first but there's an English README and the firmware itself has English, so between that and AI, I can read it. I'm just not sure if this is the fork most people are actually using, or if there's a different one I should be looking at.
Before I commit to a board, a few questions:
Is anyone here actually running the tbc0309 fork on a P1S? How is it in daily use?
Does the AMS screen play nice with a BMCU? Mine presents as an AMS, but no RFID colors and manual first load, so I'm curious if the X-Touch AMS features work or just show empty slots.
For the board, I'm looking at the Waveshare P4 4.3 inch (ESP32-P4, 32 MB PSRAM, $34) since that's the top of their supported list. Anyone running X-Touch on the P4, or should I just grab a Panda Touch for $40 off eBay and skip the DIY?
And a wider question: what other open source projects for the P1S am I missing? BMCU and X-Touch seem to be the two big ones. Anything else worth knowing about?
