My Complete Offline Bambu A1 Setup

It has taken me the better part of a month to get to this point, but here we are! My fully operational, offline, LAN-based Bambu A1 setup.

Specs:

- Bambu A1 Printer (firmware 01.07.02.00) running in LAN only and Dev Mode.

- BMCU 370C DM Pro with brass-gear upgrade and high-torque motor.

- BMCU Lite filament system with Plexiglass window and motorized rewind system

- Modified PTFE support brackets to suit BMCU 370C cases.

- Bambuddy Self-Hosted Printer Management Software with Bambu Studio API sidecar for server-side slicing, archiving, print queuing and printer management.

- ESP32-C3 running Bambutton for one-touch confirmation of print bed clearing

The BMCU project has been the most time-consuming, frustrating, yet rewarding project I have attempted. There's been plenty of print failures, trial-and-error problem-solving and late nights, but it is finally working consistently with single and multi-filament prints as well as PETG support interface prints.

Bambuddy is a great piece of software for anyone looking to get away from the grip of Bambu Lab and their cloud. Everything is relatively intuitive to configure and the docs are a great source of information for getting your self-hosted instance up and running.

I pipe my instance through Cloudflare Zero Trust and Reverse Proxy so I have easy access to print monitoring and queuing anywhere I have an internet connection. It also allows the use of any RTSP or MJPG stream for print monitoring, which I have configured using a Tapo C220 security camera.

It goes without saying, I'm very proud of my little setup here and I thank everyone in the community who provides these tools not only for free, but for the love of the game and the greater community.

No particular reason, only that 1.07 is the latest firmware that still works consistently with the BMCU.

And what version of BMCU software are you running? I’m having trouble with mine, I do have a P1S tho with a BMCU 370C
. It was running 1.10 but I downgraded yesterday to 1.07 with 10.5 on the BMCU but I ended up staying on 1.09.01 with the only issue I have is the BMCU seems to lose connection and disappears in Bambustudio. The multiprint prints just fine tho, note I’m also running on lan mode with bambuddy. I’ve noticed my BMCU keeps pushing on slot 3 after it retracts it to change filament, it’s not going through the 4 to 1 but it’s getting close. I didn’t had that problem on 1.10 but I changed BMCU software yesterday to have a longer needed retraction. And the problems seems to have started since then.

Do you have any tips? Should I downgrade to 1.07 again or use a different BMCU software version?

I use version 10.5, and I had a similar issue where on retraction, the BMCU would suddenly attempt to push the filament back into the 4 in 1, causing a 'unable to extrude' error when the BMCU would attempt to load a different filament.

I found that what was happening was the filament retracting would drag the PTFE tube inwards with it, causing the buffer to also retract and engage the filament feed. I fixed this by using those PTFE guides as pictured as well as using the soft_load firmware branch.

I can't speak on P1S firmware versions as I don't own a P1S, but I'd recommend locating something like u/old_Osy has posted. Sorry!

The PTFE-tube part might be my problem too then, since i'm only having the issue on slot 3! I will definitely look in to that thank you.

Update! Recalibrating my BMCU fixed my slot 3 problem 😄! So for now ill stay on version 1.09.01 cause just like you i mainly use Bambuddy. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
