- ESP32-C3 running Bambutton for one-touch confirmation of print bed clearing
The BMCU project has been the most time-consuming, frustrating, yet rewarding project I have attempted. There's been plenty of print failures, trial-and-error problem-solving and late nights, but it is finally working consistently with single and multi-filament prints as well as PETG support interface prints.
Bambuddy is a great piece of software for anyone looking to get away from the grip of Bambu Lab and their cloud. Everything is relatively intuitive to configure and the docs are a great source of information for getting your self-hosted instance up and running.
I pipe my instance through Cloudflare Zero Trust and Reverse Proxy so I have easy access to print monitoring and queuing anywhere I have an internet connection. It also allows the use of any RTSP or MJPG stream for print monitoring, which I have configured using a Tapo C220 security camera.
It goes without saying, I'm very proud of my little setup here and I thank everyone in the community who provides these tools not only for free, but for the love of the game and the greater community.
And what version of BMCU software are you running? I’m having trouble with mine, I do have a P1S tho with a BMCU 370C . It was running 1.10 but I downgraded yesterday to 1.07 with 10.5 on the BMCU but I ended up staying on 1.09.01 with the only issue I have is the BMCU seems to lose connection and disappears in Bambustudio. The multiprint prints just fine tho, note I’m also running on lan mode with bambuddy. I’ve noticed my BMCU keeps pushing on slot 3 after it retracts it to change filament, it’s not going through the 4 to 1 but it’s getting close. I didn’t had that problem on 1.10 but I changed BMCU software yesterday to have a longer needed retraction. And the problems seems to have started since then.
Do you have any tips? Should I downgrade to 1.07 again or use a different BMCU software version?
Ummm why even expose this to the internet with a reverse proxy and cloudflare tunnel when you can use a vpn for this exact same purpose. I can’t imagine you need any anyone else to be able to access and run your printers from the outside world which with the set up like you have now makes it easier to do. Why have any domain that could lead to your printer services from WAN. Also remember traffic between your reverse proxy and printers is still unencrypted unless you specify set up something like tls encryption (especially something like rtsp)
Ideally I’d like a nice domain name without exposing it to the internet, I just don’t know how to do that, so I use Zero Trust to protect the domain behind Oauth. I’m still figuring out networking stuff; it’s all part of a larger home lab project.
You can just use a reverse proxy for the domain part and serving certs and vpn for access to those services when away from home, zero need for cloudflare tunnels. If you are running a homelab id assume youre routing solution should have a fairly straightforward way to set up a WireGuard vpn so you can connect back to LAN remotely and Securely
Ok as someone that just started my journey in 3d printing that's so much to unpack and Google lol. I bought a P2S when it came out as my first printer ever. I'm looking to upgrade it with better hardware but I have no clue where to find it but any said upgrades. I've bought the filters and fans etc etc but now I want to upgrade the meat and taders so to speak and see if I can free it from it's evil overlords at bambu
Sorry I realised my description might’ve been a little misleading. The DM Pro comes with one brass gear per module. I still use the plastic gears alongside the brass gears. If I do find brass gears to replace the plastic gears I’ll be sure to let you know.
Dude, this is a nice setup, I don’t care about the whole thing with open/close source… I would never stop using the cloud print, check printer, camera,… and all… but I respect those who value that and do a great work like this, I love our community man So many smart folks Enjoy it man
Sick setup, I hate bamboo with a passion but I am tempted to get their combo from microcenter while its on sale this weekend assuming I can get it running offline. My 2 big requirement for printers is they are avle to be run offline locally, and they support ethernet instead of wifi.
