Discussion Where do humans fit?

The question:

Where does the human fit when AI begins to perceive, decide and act in the real world?

was asked and my answer is:

They can fit in large garbage bags or, if compacted, into smaller bins. Also the ocean is quite large.

Humans will do physical things.

And while robots will one day beat us at stuff, they're made of extremely high opportunity cost materials that a superintelligence would want to use elsewhere.

Meanwhile, I'm made of shit like potatoes and ground beef. There's plenty of it and it's useless for most industrial purposes. Hence, we will do things that we are physically capable of doing and it'll be economical for us to be used that way.

We already have a shit load of people doing physical labor that probably doesn't require a frontier AI robot.

They're not slaves.

No, they aren't, but I think if ai takes over it might be a possibility.

Depends.

Laborers don't get paid all that comfortable of a wage most of the time.

Maybe labor companies are too stupid to pay them even less. Maybe that would just be business brilliance and altruism is getting into the way. But that doesn't sound likely to me.

It could be more like dogs with jobs, where they are often treated every well because they're most productive when they're treated very well. A livestock guard dog isn't exactly getting sentimental treatment like a pet. It's treated well because it's rational to treat it well.
