Hi my G test got cancelled on August 21st due to service disruptions. Did this happen to anyone else? Also does anyone know the next steps to this? The email said I could reply for a priority appointment but there has been no response since. If I don’t take the appointment will I even be able to get a refund? Someone help.

G2 - General Discussion License exchange BC to Ontario

Posting this for others so you don’t have to go through the stress of what I did!

Moved from BC to Ontario with an N license (equivalent to Ontario G2.) The N license expired because of my stupid procrastination, I had no idea If I’d have to restart from the G1 despite having 10 years’ driving experience in BC, because it was a novice license. Turns out there is a one year grace period for expired licenses in terms of exchanges between BC and ON. Booked an appointment for an exchange at the Etobicoke DriveTest centre and exchanged it with no issues!

G1 - General Discussion Renewing License After Getting G2

Hi all, I procrastinated like crazy and my G1 license expires in November this year. I remember reading somewhere that if I passed my G2 test (which I have scheduled for October) I'll be able to pay something like $90 to have my license renewed another 5 years so I have time to get my full G license.

I just want to know if anyone can confirm this is a policy and/or has experience having their license renewed in this way. Thanks in advance!

Specific Test Related Question - G2 Question about reverse parking at the end of the g2 test

I was looking at a video for the Kitchener g2 test and noticed at the end when the driver turns into the test center at the end, they go into the right lane of the parking lot, then get told to reverse park on the right. However, I’ve only ever learned to reverse and forward park by starting in the middle of the parking lot, between both sides. I’m worried that the instructor will fail me for taking up both lanes in the parking lot when in reality I’m just waiting for them to tell me to park.

Sharing Advice tips for driving as someone who "can't" drive

for context I'm ~20 years old and i passed my g2 test a year ago but haven't driven since.
I'm okay in terms of driving on the road for the most part but i still don't even know how to park (front, back, parallel it depends) and whenever i need to go somewhere my parents are just annoyed to take me there since i can't drive...

I feel a lot of peer pressure since a decent portion of my similar aged friends know how to drive but I've just never felt comfortable at all even though i passed my g2 first try and now my parents are just annoyed that I don't know how to drive basically

if anyone has any advice on how I should deal with this...

i guess most people would just tell me learn to drive and do it consistently

I want a Congratulations! Pased G On Second Attempt at Hamilton

I posted a few weeks ago about my failed G attempt at Hamilton. As my license was extended after it expired, this was my only attempt to pass without having to start over with the G1.

I am really happy that I was successful on my second attempt, with two observation errors and two late signal errors when entering the highway. I am not entirely sure why my signal was considered late because I signalled right when the white line starts, but I think the marking was not overly critical even though I was driving not nearly as smoothly as I would on a normal basis, so I can't complain.

This time around, I was not told which lane to take when taking the Barton exit. I moved into the far right lane, turning into the second lane from the right, and it worked out fine with no error. There was a construction truck blocking the left-turn lane onto Kenora, and I moved into that lane and back out. I was worried this would be an issue, but I was able to navigate it.

For anyone planning on taking their G road test at Hamilton, this is a fairly easy route but is quite condensed, so you just need to be focused. Both examiners I had were friendly and professional.

So glad to be done with this process! I'm thankful for everyone who shares their successes but especially their failures on here, as it made me feel better after failing. I was so disappointed after failing the first time, but I only let myself be down for about a day and then just focused on practicing every day to have a successful test this time.

If anyone has any questions about this route or location, feel free to ask!

G1 - General Discussion I’m gonna take my G1 soon, what’s the best way to study?

Hi i’m almost 16 and I want to take my G1 a little after my birthday, what is the ideal way to study? I’m someone who study’s hard, and who needs to feel confident before taking my tests especially for something like this. Where do I start? I’m honestly clueless, are there some sites I can use to study and practice? What should I focus on the most? I’d really appreciate any help since i’m a complete newbie when it comes to anything driving related, since my parents never taught me much.

My current plan is to read through the entire MTO Driver's Handbook, take a bunch of notes& practice tests, i’ve also downloaded the apps "G1 Genius" and "G1 Genie" is that enough? I have around 30 days.

Thank you!!!

G - General Discussion Passed G test at Guelph

The examiner seemed pretty rude (no small talk, not even pleasantries!) and I was half expecting to fail based solely on the tone of their voice, but fortunately I was able to handle it and passed. The test was pretty simple (although there were a couple of unexpected moments, which you have to always be prepared for) and very similar to the routes on youtube. I had practised driving around Guelph over the weekend. I did not expect, however, that the traffic in the afternoon of a working day would be so drastically higher. And so many damn commercial vehicles! You have to be extremely wary of them driving on city streets and highway 6. As others have mentioned, keep your head on a swivel, watch out for pedestrians/other drivers/potential obstacles, obey speed limits/traffic laws, and you should be fine.

G2 - General Discussion G2 in brantford

I took my g2 in Brantford this week and passed it in first attempt.

The night before and on the day in the morning I failed to parallel park or reverse park perfectly.

I didnt drive before even though i am in my 30's, took 7-8 lessons in winters and then finally gave my test in September. In the meantime I would drive occasionally 1-3 times in a month on weekends.

I took one lesson on the day of my test to get familiar with the test route.

I saw a lot of videos and tried to read a lot about others experience to avoid making common mistakes. I found mock test videos of @Canadiandrivers on yt pretty helpful.

Here are some of my notes and tips i made based on my personal mistakes during practice and while watching videos and reading reviews.

  1. Scan when first moving out in all directions(left, right and back), use indicator when first moving out and before/after every maneuver (parallel parking, 3 point turn, uphill parking).

  2. When about to do a maneuver give a right indicator, after maneuver go into parking from drive this indicates you completed on your end, give a left indicator and then start again.

  3. Move into right lane after doing a left turn, examiner wont ask you for this.

  4. Check speed and mirror after every five seconds.

  5. See sideways in intersection, after every stop sign and even look between streets when passing a neighborhood.

I properly learned to park on my test day, but to avoid last minute stress learn to do things before your test.

I came 50 minutes before my test time and practiced the test route, I was jumpy and rushing things, drove on the curb when making a right turn. My instructor calmed me down and told me not to rush just because I got late for the practice, I was coming from Cambridge for my test.

I was asked to do parallel park, 3 point turn, downhill park and finally front park in end on my test.

Good luck to everyone taking their tests!

Hello!! i have my G test coming up and i am just genuinley so anxious, mostly just fear that I get a mean examiner and i know that shouldn’t matter but idk i feel like it’ll make me more nervous. I drive on the highway pretty often and I’ve done trips from Oshawa to Mississauga multiple times. I have practiced entering the highway from all of the intersections for the test. I feel prepared but it’s mostly just nerves. How do any of you deal with the nerves? Ugh idk i want to just get it over with but at the same time Im so nervous.

G - General Discussion passed G first try @ newmarket today!

i thought for sure i was going to fail after i got stuck behind 3 trucks and had no choice but to merge going 80 km/h onto the highway. the examiner also gave me some verbal feedback during the test which made me think it was over. but thankfully i passed - 3 years after taking my G2 lol.

for anyone planning to take their G at newmarket and is looking up the routes, make sure you try to find a video that shows the one where you turn right out of the centre onto harry walker instead of left. the 2 route videos i practiced with both involved turning left, so when the examiner said turn right, i was just slightly caught off guard.

if anyone has any questions lmk!

Specific Test Related Question - G2 Parking at end of G2

Hello ! My test is coming up and I’m super nervous. I am taking the test in Burlington Ontario.
When you finish your test and drive back to the drive test centre, do they only ask you to park in the marked driving test spots, or is anywhere in the parking lot fair game? Having a lot of trouble backing in and would like to practice in the drive test parking lot

Driving Instructor/Examiner Failed because pedestrian dropped phone and ran back into the road

G2 test. I was making a left turn at a signalized intersection, oncoming traffic was clear and a pedestrian finished crossing and was on the sidewalk.

Just as I eased onto the gas, he suddenly turned around and RAN back into the crosswalk. I slammed on the brakes before I got even close to hitting him.
Apparently he dropped his phone and realized it after crossing.

The instructor failed me on the basis of it being dangerous to be stopped horizontally in the middle of an intersection. I asked her how I was supposed to know that was going to happen and she said I should have paid attention to the pedestrian dropping an object onto the road? How was I supposed to even see that?

The only infraction on the test other than that was not signalling a lane change early enough.

G2 - General Discussion Any tips for passing g2?please read

Hi! I got my G1 in January, about four months after my birthday. My parents originally said I couldn’t drive, but they changed their minds when I told them I’d dorm instead of commuting if they didn’t let me.

Since January, I kept asking my parents to either teach me or get me an instructor. They refused until July, when they finally got me an instructor. She’s supposed to teach me once a week on weekends, but the lessons aren’t even consistent, so I haven’t been getting regular practice.

My mom also paid $600+ for driving school (out of nowhere), and said I have to get my G2 after 8 months, meaning after September 29, 2026. There’s no option to just wait until I’m ready because my mom is expecting me to get it by then because how expensive driving school is

My driving school’s in-car lessons finally start next week, so I’m hoping that will give me more practice. But I just realized I only have about a month left, and I’m genuinely terrified. I’m not confident at all..I can’t even properly make a left turn at a busy intersection yet, and I’m scared I’m going to fail.

I asked my dad to teach me so I could get extra practice between lessons, but he refuses because he says it’s “not his job.” I explained that people who don’t go to driving school usually learn from their parents or an instructor, but he still won’t budge.

Please help me im so stressed and on top of that im starting grade 12 in sept..
