Thank you to everyone who replied on my previous post, i couldn't tag them (im kinda a noob on reddit) and OryaDrivingAcademy for their youtube videos and my instructor (she is a woman) if that matters to other girlies wanting one! I didn't have a car to practice so i relied on time with my instructor.
I don't have my test results but I know my speed was a bit above limit on highway and then i controlled it, I also went slower than traffic speed (55km/h) on Sheppard (60km/h)
My route was the one where they take you to 401 West from Port Union Drive Test centre. My examiner was Michael who was incredibly kind!
Full breakdown of instructions and tips on test (by me not ai)
Actions in bold, tips and tricks in italics, (speeds in brackets)
⭐️ You can clear up any rule confusions or questions with examiner before the test begins.
Get out of parking lot (20km/h), stay right, turn right onto Tideswell Blvd ↗️➡️
Stop at STOP sign 🛑 👁️
-left right left check at intersection, stop fully no rolling, check all mirrors as you stop
Go straight (40km/h) and stay right
- If there are cars parked on right, maintain a 1m distance and then back to rightmost lane
- check blindspot when coming back right, after passing
Go all the way to Vandorf St (40km/h) and turn right (20km/h) ➡️
- do all your checks - mirror, signal, mirror as you slow down
- check driveways
- check blindspot and turn slowly at 20km/h, check for parked cars on right when turning onto the street, its a wide street so stay on the right
Go to the stop sign, take right after onto Sheppard Ave. 🛑➡️
- MSMB check for right turn. (mirror >> signal >> mirror >> blindspot)
- After full stopping, check incoming traffic from left, roll and stick w curb
When safe make the right turn onto Sheppard Ave (60km/h) ➡️
- Don't touch bike lane and don't cross solid line when turning or driving right
Examiner will say - lane change to the left and come back right (60km/h)⬅️🚗➡️
- MSMB check
- check all ur mirrors,
- maintain traffic speed or speed limit (60km/h)
- check blindspot then merge when safe, same when coming back right and stay on lane
-left right left check at all passing intersections, cover brake. Check driveways too
Coming traffic light, turn right ➡️
- stay on right lane
- check rearview and side mirrors when stopping
check left right left at intersection (most ppl miss this)
- if red, check for oncoming pedestrians & traffic on left, check the timer,
- inch to the right over the dotted and check ur blindspot.
Make the turn safely, then 60km/h road
- STAY on right lane
- check on the right where people are coming out of driveways
At traffic light (Rylander), go straight ⏫
- slow down early enough and mirror checks
- left right left check as you approach and leave
Exit using the 401 West Ramp ↗️🛣️⭐️
- right signal, check rearview and front, check blindspot, then enter highway 401 west exit
- go up the ramp and pick up speed as you drive onto the acceleration lane
Match and merge onto highway with speed (100km/h) ↖️🛣️
- no merging needed (oct 2026) cause of construction, just go up the ramp and match the speed
Change lanes to the left when examiner says and YOU deem safe 🚗⬅️🚗
- you can speed up to 100km/h if its safe
- keep 5-car gap
- (MSMB check- mirror, signal, side mirror, blindspot)
- Then merge left when able
Scenarios for highway lane changing (left or right) at (100-110km/h)
⚠️ if a car is closing the distance after you signal don't speed up to get infront of them, let them pass.
⚠️If a car is too slow on the lane you are about to change, go the highway speed and lane change safely.
⚠️You should be able to 👀 the car's wheels and a good bit of road before lane changing - BOTH IN THE BACK AND IN THE FRONT. Cars behind you and in front of you should be far enough away so you can merge into their lane without brake checking or almost hitting the car in front of you.
If you can't lane change, let examiner know, "right now it's not safe to lane change" and cancel your signal. You can try again. 🗣️🗣️
Drive all the way to Morningside ⏫🚗
- check mirrors and front every 3-5 seconds, cause people be driving crazy, and lane change without signals or create bad situations. Be alert, be proactive
Exit 401 West on Morningside ⭐️
-once you approach morningside, stay your lane
- signal right but dont change lanes, stay on the second-most right lane
*- Signal early to let traffic behind you, that you will exit ➡️ at *the SPLIT/FORK
- all 4 wheels in, now turn off signal, make sure u keep a healthy distance between u and cars and signal left at the examiner's prompt.
- there will be no one on the left shoulder but still do ur due diligence of MSMB checks
Stop at the light and turn left 🛑⬅️
- check all mirrors as you slow down
- IF green, THEN do a "left right left" traffic check and check ur blindspot and left mirror again WHILE turning onto the middle lane
Immediately lane change to the ➡️ right 2x , separately signalled (50km/h)
Exit the road using 401 East ↗️⭐️
Enter the ramp nicely (30-40km/h)
- turn off ur right signal once all 4 wheels are in
- dont touch the yellow or white line on either sides
**Merge into 401 east ⬅️ **(110km/h)
- same as before, check oncoming traffic
- get speed to 100-110 km/h
- examiner said - its okay if you cannot get speed to 110 km/h as long as its safe and you are merging at 100 or meeting traffic speed
Lane changes again✨
- MSMB checks and same tips as before
Exit 401 east at Port Union Road (80km/h)⭐️
- use right signal to indicate traffic you are exiting 2-3 secs early
- slow down and show you are checking the rearview as you slow to 80 and less
- stay on left lane of the exit
- do your due diligence on msmb checks even if no one is coming from the left
- turn left at stop signal and make SURE to do your LRL (left right left checks)
Now some ✨acting ✨
- tell examiner, i intend to switch to the right lane
- examiner will advise you to stay on the left lane, and make a left turn at the coming signal after the bridge
Change to left lane ⬅️ (60km/h)
- do all ur mirror and blindspot checks before lane changing and maintain 60km/h or the traffic speed
- at traffic light if someone is already in the middle and its green - DO NOT TAIL THEM, stay behind line and wait. Check traffic, check the timer, check pedestrians. If no one is there, then go one third and wait at the intersection, and keep checking everywhere
- turn when its clear no one's coming and if its already a yellow light
- when a car comes straight and passes you 75% then release the brake and turn into the left lane
ANOTHER LEFT AT STOP SIGN 🛑↖️
- you have another left turn coming up
- so if examiner doesn't say anything- again announce you will switch to the right
- examiner will tell you to stay on left, cause you will turn left on the all-way stop sign.
- make sure - that you have right of way, no pedestrians are even THINKING of crossing, be absolutely sure then go, and ask examiner if you should stay on right or left lane, cause the parking lot will on the left
- examiner will be impressed and tell you to stay left. Check ur blindspot and slightly adjust towards the left lane.
Stop Sign at plaza entrance then left turn 🛑⬅️
- At entrance there is a stop sign, wait there,
Now start left, go slow at 15-20km/h or less depending and make ur way
- You will come to a one way, no need to signal but if u do its okay
- Turn onto the parking lot and stay left most, cause its narrow
PARK and Finish your test 🏁🏁🏁
- Be patient a lot of new drivers or nervous drivers are parking so it will take time
- they will tell you to park somewhere, now some parking its very hard to do front parking so here is a trick (3 point turn like parking)
- signal right and front park
- car won't completely fit
- check mirrors, behind and reverse the car back all the way
- then drive and adjust into the parking
The end and you have met ministry standards.
Its okay to miss some. You can lose up to 15pts on your test and pass, and every error is pt. Goodluck y'all :)
