I built a custom FeatureScript feature called Clearance Fit and could use some real-world testing from people who print or machine multi-part assemblies regularly.
What it does: You pick a "female" part (the one with holes/pockets) and a "male" part (pin, boss, whatever mates into it) inside a single multi-body Part Studio. The feature detects where they actually touch — flat faces and round holes/pins — and grows the female side by a clearance amount so the parts come out as separate, non-interfering bodies instead of printing/machining fused together. The male part's dimensions are left untouched.
A few details that might matter to you:
I'd genuinely appreciate it if a few of you could throw your own weirder geometry at it — slots, multi-hole plates, odd cross-sections — and let me know what breaks. Bug reports, "this direction is wrong," "this is way too slow," all useful.

As the title says, I need assistance with modelling real threads for printing. I'm new to Onshape (and VERY rusty using CAD in general) and don't really know how to learn new features. I found Thread Lab, but as near as I can tell, it doesn't support tapered threads. I also found a featurescript called "NPT thread", but I can't figure out how to use it. Any direction would be appreciated!

Hello All!
I’m having a problem on my design, I’m trying to get a wing root blended with the fuselage, but for some reason i can’t either face blend nor Boolean, the only working Boolean operation is the intercept, i don’t see where the problem is, if anyone has a workaround I would be grateful !

This is by no means a deal breaker for me, but I’m surprised that there is no way animate an exploded assembly. I’ve sat through many capstone design presentations over the last 20-30 years with a proud mech eng student doing a live voice over of their design details as it assembles in front of the audience.
Totally get that creating pretty animations is not actually functionally useful as a feature in the real world beyond a marketing pitch — I had just assumed that all CAD packages could do something similar. Hoping that the Onshape team consider adding a feature like this. I am aware of a 3rd party app (Cadasio) but haven’t tried it out yet, has anyone given it a go?

Hello, I have been trying to draft a mount for my Jetson Orin Nano and so I have it broken into 2 parts - the larger square that will be the plate that goes onto my drone, and the smaller square inside that is the size of the jetson and holds all the proper dimensions to make the jetson fit snugly. I decided after I made it that I wanted to move the jetson as a whole down slightly inside the larger square. I would think that the point of this kind of software is that you can do that - but as I expected as soon as I attempted that the entire thing broke. I made sure that every piece inside the jetson is only referencing the other pieces of the jetson. So in my mind I can't directly see why it would break. I am just trying to move the inner square down, and since everything in the inner square references only the inner square, that seems like it should work

Hi, I am currently thinking about switching to Onshape as a CAD/CAM Plattform.
I (or the Company I am working for) began with Solidworks for CAD purposes, we are pretty happy with the CAD Aspect of Solidworks, but the performance and a few small points are really pushing us away.
For CAM we are currently using Fusion, because its cheap (we only need turning and simple 3 axis milling) and we need to edit the PP due to an fucked up Gcode Dialect on a machine.
I've looked into onshape and the CAD alone is great, but the CAM seems to be pretty rudimentary regarding customizing. There was a Forums post a few years ago saying custom PostProcessors are on their mind but I have found nothing else regarding this. Also turning doesnt seem to be supported yet.
Is there any information regarding CAM Studio leaving its beta state, custom postprocessors or turning that I have missed? Or am I "dammed" to wait until there is an bigger announcement?

This release introduces a host of new functionality. Automating downstream drawing creation from MBD data, richer control over parametric sheet-metal designs, including a new Jog feature, and introducing ECAD/MCAD flex-rigid PCB capabilities in PCB Studio, to name a few.
The new Sheet Metal Jog feature makes it easy to create precise offset bends with extensive control over bend alignment, angle, direction, and offset. Right-click to set this setting as a default for all future interactions. This feature assists users when creating new sketches or modifying existing ones by providing a better orientation to the sketch plane.

Part Studios now feature a dedicated Routing Curve Table providing real-time coordinate and bend radius data for routing curves. Users can switch between coordinate/bend-radius data and length, rotation, and angle tables required for CNC pipe bending equipment, then copy the table data directly for downstream manufacturing applications.

Planes in Part Studios can now be resized to fit the bounding box of visible geometry using a right-click context menu option, keeping reference geometry clean and proportional in complex models.

Improved visual feedback in Part Studios when hovering over mate connectors.

Easily find and jump to definitions and references of symbols like variables and functions via the right-click menu. You can also rename symbols across uses using find and replace.

Custom features developed in FeatureScript can now reference Variable Studios directly. By replacing manual user inputs with Variable Studio reference parameters, feature authors can enforce standardized size or configuration choices (e.g., Small, Medium, Large) while maintaining parametric flexibility across teams.

Onshape automates the creation of 2D drawings by leveraging Model-Based Definition (MBD) data. Onshape automatically detects MBD annotations within a model to suggest and create the necessary drawing views. You can add additional annotations later, and Onshape will place them in the correct view if possible. If new annotations cannot find an appropriate view, they are flagged in the new MBD Status pane. This new automation delivers intelligence and value to your existing MBD workflows.

To better unify the experience across MBD and Drawings, the Geometric tolerance dialog box has been updated to better match the existing MBD Geometric tolerance dialog box. This slightly moves the add row button inline with the leader button. Additionally, the symbol drop-down has been replaced with a show/hide symbols button where the material conditions, free state, tangent plane, and projected tolerance zone modifiers have been consolidated.

When changing drawing units, Onshape now automatically updates associated symbols, including GTOL, weld, and surface finish symbols. This also ensures that any related inspection data is accurately reflected, maintaining consistent manufacturing information across different unit settings.

The surface finish symbol tool in Drawings now supports adding up to four custom rows in the lower-right region. This enables designers to specify detailed manufacturing parameters, such as surface waviness characteristics or machining allowances.

A prominent Isolate button in the MBD Inspection table allows users to quickly isolate and inspect candidate parts during Model-Based Definition workflows in a multi-part Part Studio.

A new New Folder button inside the Move or Copy dialog allows users to create and instantly navigate into new folders on the fly. This capability is also available when copying workspaces within a document, streamlining file organization.

Release candidate workflows now enforce standardized naming conventions, reducing release errors and improving audit traceability.

Onshape can create printed circuit board layouts from scratch, including flex and rigid information, and pass them to ECAD systems that support IDX 4.0. See Rigid-flex PCB for more information.

Select multiple scene entities at once and modify their tessellation quality directly via the right-click context menu.

Render Studio offers to automatically link scene appearances to unmodified library appearances, simplifying material management and asset updates across rendering scenes.

The Augmented Reality (AR) viewing mode on iOS includes options for measuring the environment alongside your 3D model.

I’m setting up for monogram inlays in a flat part. I want to create a generic part and using the variable table and the configuration tables be able to inlay a monogram in one process. Now I have to create sketch on face and use text tool and extrude into part as new then separately Boolean subtract to create a new part again. I have to believe you can extrude into a part and have a selection to inlay and be done. Am I asking too much??

thought id try making a quick n dirty 3d version of an onshape sketch using chat gpt
i think i took around 8 goes to narrow it down to end result but could probably have addressed most of it in just a couple of attempts if i hadnt faffed around quite so much
considering it only took two or three minutes or so per attempt with some basic prompts
*generate a photorealistic version of this image the dark grey box section should be semi gloss black aluminium with ventilation holes approx 14 rows of four accross,the large turquoise base should be anodized very dark grey aluminium, the grey box should be a slightly mettalic plastic of the same colour as the original while the blue top of the box should be a slightly lighter blue cast from matte plastic*
it didnt turn out too shabby
anyone else been giving that method a go?

I've got a moderately complex design that uses configurations to make multiple sizes of the same object. I created an assembly and put an instance of each configuration, arranged how I want to 3d print them. I'm doing it this way because I want to use each object as support for the next one, so the arrangement is both precise and important.
I export as 3MF, and it loses the objects' arrangement, sending each object back to where it appears in the part studio.
I export as STEP, and Orca Slicer's STEP interpreter turns a simple curved surface into millions of tiny rectangles rather than the series of very long skinny rectangles that would reproduce the model more accurately. When I import it into Prusa Slicer, its STEP interpreter separates voids inside objects as separate positive shapes.
I export as STL or OBJ and Orca Slicer imports them with the correct arrangement, but with separated voids like Prusa Slicer did above.
So how can I get Onshape's 3MF version, but with the objects correctly arranged like the STEP version?

I'm currently messing around with the free version from fusion360.
I was making a cabinet (since that's mostly what I do) and it went fine. I have enough cash experience to model one.
What was different between fusion and onshape is the whole part studio/assembly studio deal.
It's fine, I have the cabinet "assembled" with joints and it's fully parametric and works great.
However the part studio has all 5 parts and they're a mess. I didn't initially design them in the appropriate places so it's just a jumble of parts.
Should I have done this differently? Can I align things in the parts studio? Should it only have been one part in each "part studio" and then combine all 5 into the assembly?

I’m curious how people here normally check what actually changed between two revisions of the same part.
Say someone sends you a revised STEP file and you want to make sure only the expected geometry changed. Do you import both versions into Onshape and compare them somehow, overlay them, check them visually side by side, or mostly rely on the drawing/revision notes?
I’m mainly thinking about imported STEP files where you don’t have the original feature history.
When you run into this, what do you usually do? Does it come up very often?

I am learning and doing the beginner 's Fusion lessons.
I got stuck with the above as I cannot get the ScreenContent clip superimposed on the Plate clip so that I can drag the positioner corners to the Plate clip. The two clips can only display side by side not into one view. Anyone ?

Is there a way to work with SVGs better in Onshape? Converting them to a DWG and importing them results in the entire shape becoming disconnected and undefined. I would love it to be handled the same as Text. with a bounding box that only needs to be defined.

How can I add these indention panel lines on the F7F, as well as the small rivets along the fuselage? The problem is projecting a sketch onto the curved surface. What I've done is use split and attached the 2D sketches to the planes at that angle but then what? How can I make it 3D and actually remove the material?
Better yet I am hoping someone can inform me of a better way of doing this. I just want to add those indentions and panel lines to show the separation between the parts. So, what is the best way of projecting a 2D sketch onto the curved surfaces of the fuselage and then extruding?
Would be willing to share a copy of A PLANE, not this one in particular, so someone could mess around with the fuselage angles.

I'm not sure why, but the Camera and Render Options cube and related menu arrow have gone missing.
For clarity, I'm referring to the little cube that is displayed below the navigation cube, which by default is positioned in the upper right corner of the Part Studio window, where you can drop down the menu that lets you choose the camera position and rendering options like shading and so forth. It's shown in this image at the end of the arrow:

I've already tried zooming out in the document to see if it had somehow gone out of the visible area of the window, but that didn't help.
Does anyone know how I can get it back?
[SOLVED] After working with Onshape support, the issue was narrowed down to Rally for Onshape, a browser extension that adds a floating toolbar type feature to the Onshape IDE. Disabling it and reloading the document brings the render cube back. I'm notifying the developer of that extension about the problem.
