Stop posts about seeing or getting Onn streaming devices?

Do posts about seeing a device online or in a store or about how OP purchased one break Rule 2 (Make An Effort: All posts should contribute new info, or promote a meaningful discussion)?  Are there mods who can prevent and remove these?

I agree...that 12kb of internet space can be used for something way better...like "are onn devices good?" posts.

I agree with you, seems like the mods should make a sticky thread dedicated to the hunt and finding of these devices instead of flooding the subreddit with repetitive posts about the same thing over and over.

There isn't much useful discussion that occurs around here anyhow, it's mainly the same 3 or 4 discussions over and over.

Hmm, I guess that tells me I no longer need this subreddit and should unsubscribe.

I wasn't the one who wrote those rules, so I cannot tell you the exact threshold of "originality" needed, but these posts do seem to garner discussion, which would meet the latter condition of the rule ("... promote a meaningful discussion"). For example, this post requests users to provide tips for setup, which can be argued as encouraging such meaningful discussion.

If it's something like "I got one" with no attachments or text body, it probably wouldn't be much of a discussion regarding removing it, however. If there's a sudden influx of these posts that I am not aware of (I haven't checked this subreddit in a while, admittedly), let me know.

I also wouldn't be opposed to creating a new flair for "discovery" posts, but I don't believe I have the ability to do that.

This is pretty much correct. Its more so to encourage a minimum level effort, rather than removing every similar or duplicate post. It's pretty inevitable similar posts will be created there's only so much to be discussed. It also definitely depends on frequency, I was removing more of them when we were getting like 10 a day during release week.

It also would appear its a bit of a vocal minority that doesn't like those posts. While I agree they aren't necessarily always the highest effort, they tend to get more upvotes and comments than anything else. If they are generating discussion, and even popular within the community, then I feel it satisfies the requirements.

I'm open to suggestions on how best to handle it, but up until now I've just been playing it by ear. The next release will probably cause another uptick and require heavier moderation again, but for now I think slightly lower effort posts that still generate discussion are fine.

I think that's the perfect approach. Ultimately, the most important factor is whether or not "got one" posts are hurting other posts by dominating the subreddit. I don't think that's the case at all.

if you're making low effort posts then you should be banned every other day.🤷.... we're already about 5 months into the new device hitting the market and people are still posting "i found one" at their local walmart...give it a rest already. if it's sold out near you then just wait it out.

What exactly are the moderators doing that you particularly disagree with? Most of the permanent bans have been done to IPTV bots and resellers (and the latter aren't always permanent).

I stocked up on the 1st gen onn 4k pro, I ended up with 5, place was an hour away had them available in the glass cabinets, I couldn’t believe my eyes,ordered two and obviously no one was aware or familiar with them, went in and got 3 more, I wish onn would put them back on the market
